I thought the same thing, until my phone started getting many scratches by simply sitting in my jeans pocket. The phone is always in there by itself, so there was no reason to suspect there would be any reason for concern. Perhaps there were some gravel/sand particles on my pockets. After that happened I’ve always have a glass protector on. It seems like a good trade off for the protection it offers.

That definitely could be an issue where debris that you can’t see or feel inside your pocket can scratch the display. Sometimes it’s actually scratching the oleophobic coating and not the display itself. One thing I can recommend for those who do not use screen protectors or carry the phone inside their pocket, is turn your pocket inside out and use a lint roller which can attract any dirt or debris to help potentially avoid any issues.

That is a big difference in thickness with the revamped protector. I got my Invisglass installed on launch day at the Apple Store and still looks good. Will be interesting to read user results when the new model is released.

I went into the Apple Store I bought the protector from and they didn't offer a refund-instead, I was told to reach out to Belkin. A piece of the glass shield has even pierced my hand...ouch. I told the store representative this and still didn't get an offer of a refund.

I was offered a refund on the spot once I mentioned the recall in Sydney. They didn’t have the replacements when I did it so I went and got a Tech21 Evo Glass protector instead which is pretty good, much more fingerprint resistant than the Belkin.

Belkin have been terrible. Weeks before visiting Apple I contacted Belkin and started a warranty replacement/refund process. Their email said to reply with some more details which I did. Never got a response. I replied again asking if there had been any progress, again no response. I honestly don’t ever expect to hear back from them again because their support is obviously absolutely miserable if they can’t even be bothered to reply to a standard email. Doesn’t matter now anyway as Apple resolved the problem for me, but you’d think they’d pick partners with better products and support overall.

Any recommendations on a cheaper alternative?

I looked at the screen protector thread on here and most of the recommendations said to use iCarez. That's what's on my brother's and it looks perfect. He has the case friendly one and it goes perfectly with the otterbox symmetry

Because the glass is still crackable, and a screen protector vastly improves your chances of cracking it and not the screen glass on your $1200 phone. I hadn't used them before the X, because I have a very minimal case that doesn't protect the face of the screen at all. Having a glass screen protector doesn't change the feel at all to my fingers, and I don't mind the hairline visibility of it at the extreme edges.

aren't all edges extreme edges :)

That picture is clearly the anti-glare one... if it was glass it would snap if you bent it like that.

This is welcome news because I really do not like the Belkin Anti-Glare I have on my iPhone X. I love the Belkin Glass protector I have on my iPhone 7 Plus, so I will definitely be switching to the glass for my iPhone X next time I stop into the Apple Store.

I thought I was doing well with the Invisiglass Ultra on my X. Had it since early November and it's performed well until a couple of weeks ago. It was in my front jeans pocket with nothing else in there. Took it out and it had a full length crack from top to bottom! Strange as I never felt it being stressed or knocked or anything.

The good news is I'd heard about the Belkin recall, so I contacted them and provided my purchase info. They said they'll ship me out a replacement free of charge when the new batches become available this month...

I’ve reached out to my bank to file a claim on the purchase as neither Apple or Belkin say they can refund me. I went back into the store today complaining and no offer of refund was made. This is total **** from Apple. Seriously not thrilled. Shot off an email to Tim Cook.

I was told at the Apple Store where I got my Belkin Anti-Glare protector (because the glass was obviously not available) that if for any reason I was not happy with it, to call the number on the packaging (Belkin) OR Apple and I would receive a refund. The only caveat is that I would have to take it into my local Apple Store and take off the protector in order to get the refund. I can see why they would want that done. If they did not do that people would just call and say they are not happy and get a refund yet keep the protector on in most cases.

I plan on calling Apple first (hopefully I can get this handled through them) and tell them I am not happy at all with the anti-glare screen protector because the damn thing picks up EVERYTHING! It has no oleophobic coating, so unless you have just washed your hands this thing gets filthy quick! It makes the beautiful iPhone X screen look horrible. So anyway, I just want to get a refund for the anti-glare, and turn right around and buy the glass screen protector and have them apply it with the machine at the Apple Store.

You should be able to get a refund, I would call Apple and ask to speak to an Apple Specialists (who have more power than normal customer service agents) and just tell them what happened, and ask if there is anything they can do to help you. Sometimes you get a different agent and they will do what the other agent would not.

I will keep you updated on how it goes for me!

From my past experience, you shouldn’t need a screen protector on an iPhone.

I treated my iPhone X exactly the same as I’ve treated my iPhone 7 for the past 1+ year. The iPhone 7 still has no screen scratches but 12 days into the iPhone X the screen was already starting to look a hockey rink — so I returned it. Happy with the durable 7 for now until  works out a better formula with their screen vendor.

I’ve gone naked on my iPhone screen and so far it’s done very well. Only a single faint scratch about 5mm long which can only be seen on a black screen with a strong light reflected off it.
So far it's done very well but already a scratch. Wouldn't call this done very well.

Yah, I don't understand the allure of screen protectors when the glass itself is already super-strong.
Super strong? Lmao. Watch on YouTube Jerryr igeverything. On drop from his lap and it's broken.

I am super careful with my iPhone X, and it has micro-scratches on it especially where I place my thumb the most to swipe around. Now I have the anti-glare protector on it because I did not want anymore micro-scratches, but I hate the anti-glare protector. Definitely will be getting the glass protector once available at my Apple Store.

I have had every iPhone since the original and the screen on the iPhone X seems to get micro-scratches the easiest out of any other iPhone.

what’s the benifit of a $40 tempered glass screen protector vs say a maxboost one from amazon where I get 3 for $7.99. Please don’t say quality because I have had the same one on since launch day iPhone X not a scratch or crack. Please don’t say fit because mine looks perfect no bubbles and fits like a glove. I’ll wait to see what justifies a 20x piece difference.

I got mine replaced today at my local Apple store. I’ve had mine since the release of the X and nothing was wrong with it. But for safety measures I went ahead and got mine exchanged.

The company I work for sells tempered glass for £0.99, or a 10 pack for £6.99. Our cost price is around half of that. I have had it on every phone I've had and never had a broken screen, but I maybe go through 5-6 screen protectors a year. There is no need to be buying a product at £30 or whatever it is for the Belkin one when it does the exact same job. Treat it as a sacrificial layer and you will really see the benefits of it. My screens are always mint condition when I go to sell on the phone, and when I drop it and the screen protect cracks, it's literally a few pence to replace it and be fully protected.

Hi guys, I have a question for you: I purchased the Belkin InvisiGlass for iPhone X at the beginning of February on Amazon UK as a pre-order. Its model number is F8W862. Now, there is another preorder for the F8W874, which is the same of that one on Belkin US. The Belkin InvisiGlass model on Apple Store is F8W872.
How many models has Belkin produced for InvisiGlass Ultra? 4? o_O
1) The first one when iPhone X was released (I don't know its model number);
2) The second one at at the beginning of February (F8W862);
3) The third one for Apple Store (F8W872);
4) The fourth one that will be released in March, 1 (F8W874).

In my limited experience, NONE, even Invisibleshield sucks. All seems to come from one factory in China! LOL. All are too small for the display. IMO, Belkin is the only that is passable.
Look at the lineup of iCarez screen protectors on Amazon. They have at least 3 different types that cover most or all of the display. And there are a bunch of other companies that have similar protectors now, as well.

For me, I don't like how the glass feels once the oleophobic coating wears off. With a glass screen protector, you can replace it as soon as the coating wears off, so you never have a display without it.

Also, it's not as super-strong as it's made out to be.

You’re right...but those “full coverage” is with the vinyl rim, right? Some looks good but then when you read the reviews, not great...some block FaceID, some interfere with cases, some still have edge interference/rainbow effect.

No, I don't think so. At least not from my experience.

They have 2 versions with the black rim. It's not vinyl; it's just painted black under the glass. One version is case friendly and extends right up to the edge of the Apple leather case (to illustrate how far it goes), while another version covers even more of the display and is for those not using a case or using a case that doesn't curve around the display. And then they have a version without the black rim that is completely clear.

None of these block Face ID, and none have the rainbow effect (unless you improperly apply the one without the black rim). And I'm speaking from experience not from reading reviews (nothing wrong with that, but screen protector reviews are littered with people with differing expectations and ability to apply the protectors well without bubbles).

Case-Friendly
Full coverage
No black border

Thanks! Will check them out. I stand corrected.
