I think on Day 1, most if not all, of the US stores (and surely ALL the prominent ones) would have been allocated some stock; so they would have had huge lines, even if this system had been in place.

I was planning to go to my local store before it opens to try and see if they got a 64GB in Space Gray. This availability status saved me time. It shows they don't have that model, or any model. And neither do the 4 other stores in the surrounding area. Oh well. :(

At least I still have my order online, with its Oct. 8-11 delivery date.
 
Had the same thing happen to me... Cancelled ATT pre-order when it showed availability at a few stores near me, once I placed the order all of sudden every store that was showing availability switched to unavailable. Now I am SOL.

Of course, I was dumb enough to get up at 4AM on Friday and pre order a gold model. I had no idea Apple would limit quantities of the gold models as if they were Willy Wonka's golden ticket. If I would have just chosen a normal color, I would activating my new phone right now along with all my other co-workers who just received their orders today. :rolleyes:
 
Any idea how often this tool updates (like when new shipments come in, will it reflect that as the phones are inventoried)?

I've got a store near me with a seemingly infinite supply of Verizon Space Grays, but I really would rather have silver of which Little Rock (400 miles from me) is the nearest store with stock.

last year you had to reserve at 10pm when it updated. 9:59 or so if you used the iphone apple store app

start refreshing around 9:57, get what you want, order quick and sleep
 
This does NOT work. I had multiple stores say they had it available. But when I checked out it said there was an error. After the error it said unavailable. So I tried all other stores until NO stores showed them as in stock.
 
Since I'll be switching carriers, I'll have to wait until the dust settles to walk in, grab the model I need and make the switch. Can't do it online.
 
Local store showed a 64GB silver AT&T was available. I cancelled my online order, and immediately ordered for in store pickup. When confirming, it was no longer available...

This is exactly what I'm afraid of. I have mine ordered online through apple.com. My date says oct 7-10th. I'm afraid what happened to you will happen to me if I see it in stock and cancel.

Worked like a charm for me here in Charlotte, NC. I placed the order this morning at 9 am. Got an email around 10 saying it was ready for pickup. Headed down to the apple store on my lunch break. There was a huge line, but I just went straight up to an employee and he was able to get my phone for me right away. The whole thing took about 10 minutes.
 
Just ordered a Gold 32gb AT&T for pickup at Apple Georgetown. Will only be convinced this works when I have in hand.

My point is that it showed as unavailable at that location (and up and down the East Coast) as recently as an hour ago. My feeling is that the availability is updated all day, and not just at 10p.

EDIT: Just say both Charlotte stores had them in stock. I placed my order for immediate pickup!
 
I keep refreshing and checking. Seems like once it says available you've got about 2-4 minutes before other people doing the same and buy them. I've seen three store go from available to unavailable....within minutes. Might I suggest turning on express checkout...cancel your Pre-order now (if you have one) and once you see it available trike like lightning!
 
What pissed me off was that in the morning, the Grand Central Station store had the phone I ordered on friday at 3:30 am... and when I called Apple to see if they could cancel my shipment (being sent via UPS, which sucks in Manhattan) and pick up my phone they said they couldn't.

WTF: I actually stayed up to make sure I got the phone and have already paid CAN'T pick up my phone, while someone can just waltz into the store...! :mad:
 
Couple stores in the SF bay area have ATT 64GB gold if anyone is looking.. I have my black one from best buy's launch day right now but holding out for silver (unlocked one being delivered thursday but hoping to get one in-store on ATT using upgrade sooner).

I was just able to order two iphone 5s Gold one in 16gb configuration and the other in 32gb configuration. I was able to get a 32gb from the AT&T store on launch but might sell one of the device. The other is for my girlfriend.

I ordered an iPhone 5S Silver for me and a 5S Gold for my wife late Friday AM from ATT online store. Both are 16GB models and mine said it would ship in 7-10 days and my wife's said the Gold was backordered and would not shop until Oct 21-30.

Well, they both arrived at my doorstep today. Pleased as punch. We are both 4S owners and the net is that the upgrade cost us very little since Gazelle is buying both phones for $190 each. I really have not had much time to play with the phone yet, but I suspect it will be a noticeable upgrade from the 4S.

Pretty sad day when AT&T has a better delivery performance than Apple. Ok, queue the fanboys bashing my comment, but it's true. If you ordered first round from Att, they're delivered today. If you ordered first round from Apple.... tuesday, wednesday, maybe even thursday. Sad sad sad....

It took about 5 minutes for the online order to clear the system so that I could get the upgrade pricing.

Hoping that the store actually has it when I go to pick it up...

When did you receive shipping notification? I was quoted the same shipping estimate for the Gold 16gb and I haven't received any status updates.
 
Just reserved up a 64GB ATT Gray in Montgomery Mall, MD.

They also seem to have a Silver 64GB as well.

I received a shipping notification on Saturday afternoon that my 5S silver phone had shipped. My wife's Gold phone still said Oct 21-30 was the estimated shipping date. We were floored when both phones showed up this morning as I was only expecting my Silver model.

Either ATT made a weird mistake (the phone had a sticker with my wifes name and phone number on the outside plastic wrap), ATT was seriously off with their processing and shipping system, or they bumped me because we have been loyal customers since 1998.

No clue. Just glad to have them early. I checked with the local Best Buy, ATT store, Apple Store, etc on Friday late morning and none of them had the Gold 16GB model.

I currently have an iPhone 5s space gray 64gb on ATT. I purchased on launch day but wanted the silver. I am trying to switch for one within 14 days. I am using the Apple Store app and it says it's available at my local store for pickup (using my moms information as a reference because she is eligible for an upgrade while I technically am not). Any suggestions on how I could "reserve it" or buy it so that I could come and return this one? I need help! Thanks guys
