did you go pick it up yet ?

No, can't pick it up until tomorrow. I called and the operator says it's there and ready for pickup, but she's just looking at the same system I am. Can't get a hold of anyone at the store.

Not that I can tell, but it appears that the in-store pickup option is in addition to, and not instead of in-store sales.

With nearly twice as many phones sold last weekend than the year before, without a pre-sale, but with China included, perhaps Apple has done a better job with the supply chain than we give them credit for. The gold iPhone is scarce, but it's a novelty right now and it appears more are on the way.

And Docomo also. China is not going to be as important this year as in the past. Both China Unicom and China Telecom has cut their subsidy for Iphone pretty significantly this year. And 5s does not have the same buzz as last year's 5 in China. China mobile may include Iphone to launch their TD-LTE network, but the pricing for the data plan is uncertain. The early rumor is that it will be substantially higher than CM 3g pricing. Docomo should give Apple a lot more sales than CM would this year. CM has about 173M 3g user but only 10-15% of the users base can afford an Iphone while Docomo has 63M 3g user with 100% of them can afford an Iphone. And Japan right now has a price war going and 5s can be have free with 2 year contract (so is 16g 5c and 32g 5c).

According to some of the other sites, Apple has pulled the in-store pickup option for now. Some commenters reported Apple stores were having issues tracking their inventory.

Can you mention which sites those are? I can't find any info on how people are actually finding 5s phones to buy. I've been turned away from my local store 3 times now and they just tell me to come back the next day. :(

Hopefully it will just be a few more days before supplies are more plentiful in store. FWIW, my sister ordered at 12:01 PDT on Friday and should get the phone tomorrow. Over the weekend I was pleasantly surprised to see phones in stores (albeit limited configurations), but I'm in a big city (Chicago).

All this could be if not avoided at least reduced if they would just make more damn phones before the launch.

I can't agree with you more, I'm sick and tired year after year having to deal with this crap "shortage" they know the demands there they know they will sell in the future make 20 million before launch! And I'm sure all these new countries getting launch dates as USA doesn't help.

Got a 32GB Gold ordered and ready for pick up. Will be getting it Thursday though. Apple store said if I got email saying ready that it was not going anywhere for at least 2 weeks.

I picked mine up yesterday :D
The appledude in the store said I got lucky that I was able to place this order online with instore pickup...
He also mentioned that they did away with the in store pickup shortly after I placed my order.
Will they set that up again, most likely not.

Just FYI I ordered the iPhone 5s silver 64 GB about 3 AM on the East Coast on launch day via the Apple Store App on the iPhone, pd the extra $10 for fast delivery, and am getting mine - straight from China - today via UPS. Probably didn't need to spend the extra $10? Could have got the gold, but prefer the silver. Odd, I know. :)

I live at least two hours from any Apple Store so an online order with home delivery was a given for me.

I doubt it. Considering most every other product (including the 5C) allows for in store pickup, the option will likely re-appear once stock is at a more stable level of the 5S.

This launch seems really disconnected. Some stores in my area give out tickets for phones people are heading in to pick up, others aren't. Some stores will tell you available stock at an other local location, while others will say "we can't check that".

An other issue I ran into, Trade in price you can check online at Apple.com for old iPhones, is completely different from the one used in stores. I was quoted over $100 less trade in value for my old iPhone at the store, as compared to what it showed online.

This is honestly the most disorganized iPhone Launch I have ever personally witnessed. I hope they do their homework and resolve the issues by the time the iPad line is refreshed. I do not want to have to deal with this all again with my consulting clients, nor my own iPad refresh.

Did I miss something? I hit the link for the availability and there is nothing like that. I do know 2 days ago the option was there to pick up in the store but was quickly taken down.

Is the store availability still an option and if so, where is the link?

Thank you!!!

Pam
