So every so often I see the model I want become available. I go in to place the order, and after I submit the order, it kicks me back to the payment area (not indicating my card was rejected; I tried it and it works). I try again (it takes once or twice more), then suddenly the phone is gone.
Is this a problem on Apple's end by reporting falsely that there's stock or am I just too slow?
Agreed - Apple needs to realize that hype cometh before the fall. It was quality that made you Apple.
They should start doing this from day 1.

What's the big deal with getting up in the middle of the night? I do it often. Ordering in your pajamas doesn't seem like such a big deal. There should be some love for people who actually bother to get dressed and make the trek to the store... who often buy other things while they are there, BTW.
I really hope also it's just a update or a minor setback. Calling every apple store is just a pain, than you get there 50 miles away and there like oh all sold out sorry.
