The comments are the only reason I come to this site anymore :D

I dunno... all of the "Why is IBM on this list?" and "Who is GE?" comments aren't really all that funny and are bordering on just plain sad.

It's like people who own iPhone's are absolutely clueless about other technology around them, and even the technology that goes into the devices that they own. All they know is "Apple", and who's directly competing with them.

IBM and GE are two of the biggest companies in the world, but because they don't make smartphones, some people are like "Huh?"

And then there's the people who don't realize Samsung is a global company who makes much more than just smartphones. All some people care about is that Apple is #1 and Samsung is #7. And that somehow fills them with a happy, warm, and validated feeling.

It's depressing to think about.

IBM above microsoft?!? I can only imagine IBM have any brand value in the corporate section, consumers dont care about that name anymore, I would think.
And number 6 in that list I dont even know what is...? :D

My god.... GE, GENERAL ELECTRIC.

What I find sad is the number of north american posters who as usual are clueless about the rest of the world, and so think people are somehow stupid for not knowing the GE logo, when that company has almost zero consumer presence outside of north america. It's got nothing to do with whether or not they make smartphones. They make nothing at all that anyone is likely to ever see, as far as most of the world is concerned. And since they are only the 26th largest company in North America by revenue according to Wikipedia, why are they such an important brand anyway? Or did they pay for that spot in this list out of their advertising budget.

Where are these Surveys really done online,I view all the tech sites and never see anything about surveys.

Coca-Cola 3rd, not bad for a soft drinks company :)

John Sculley might not have done too badly after all, had he stayed with selling 'sugared water' lol…. all he had to do was jump ship from PepsiCo to CocaCola…..

On that subject, has anyone else noticed Coke has become much sweeter in the last twenty or so years after the
'New Coke' debacle of 1985, and the subsequent swift but embarrassing reversal to Coke 'Classic'?

Methinks they've super-gradually (over many years) gone back to that rejected 'New Formula' (to avoid another consumer backlash no doubt), and there's so much pine nut oil in it now, that you can actually taste (and smell) it.

Give me back that old 'pre-new formula' Coke people used to refer to as a 'dinner Coke', any day…..

Man it's crazy how things change looking back.

I remember back in college when my friends were teasing me and telling me I was eventually going to have to go to Windows cause Apple was about to go out of business (I went to a Tech college and it was popular to dislike Macs there. Even with most our computer labs being Macs. Futile effort by Apple to try to get the college crowd in my college anyways).

Glad that never happened and that they still make macs today even if it isn't their most lucrative product (though I admit I'll be pissed if Apple stops MacOS entirely but it doesn't look like they will and I think their share in the market has increased way more than it was back in those days at least).

GE are heavily involved in short term interest free store cards. They do the Apple card in Australia. In case you are unaware of such products, finance organisations offer to give you credit to purchase items for certain no interest periods for small monthly account keeping fees during the term of an outstanding balance. Post interest free term most of these cards have an interest rating of > 22% and bank on most customers not paying by the terms expiry. Worst case scenario, they only make a return of the monthly account keeping fee.

I will generalise here and assume that a certain majority of people using such services to pay for items perhaps accrue a good amount of late fees, and don't bother changing to e-statements. All of these additional revenue opportunities.

Interest free credit is big business considering the ever expanding middle class.
