I just wish they would release a new version because they have a lot of new features, not because its a new year. I'm not a fan of this annual release. Just as you get say El Capitan stable with 10.11.5 or .6 along comes Sierra
Ewww, no thanks. Luckily Apple have made it perfectly clear that touchscreens are staying on iOS and mice/keyboards are staying on macOS. No gimmicky touchscreen desktop OS.
I think the most urgent touches would be to fix the highly primitive finder and task bar, as well as revive the mail app. Macs used to be well ahead of windows, now it's the opposite. But I'm afraid that the next versions will probably focus more on Siri, Apple Music, and new smileys![]()
To be honest, it has been a refuge that the Downloads folder is not synced to iCloud. Even for people with unlimited bandwidth and plenty of speed, it can be quite ridiculous to immediately begin uploading a multi-gigabyte file after downloading it.tighter integration with iCloud - might sync the entire system to iCloud.
I'd like to see iCloud become a lot more flexible. Being able to share directories / and / or allowing complete access to iCloud drive to other users.
A deep price reduction / extra storage space would be nice - only then would sync from Mac <-> iCloud be viable ( ignoring connectivity issues that may arise).
I heard about it, but geez, this should be something built into macOS itself. On Windows 10, I can enable metered connection, disable background apps.If you don't know it yet, TripMode can help with that by making it possible for you to block or allow network access to individual applications and processes, as well as displaying the amount of network data each application or process is using. It's not perfect, some websites don't work even though the browser is given permission to access the network (presumably there are some necessary background processes that are blocked).
Not that I am not enjoying new releases from Apple but I really miss those Mac OS X releases during Steve.
Maybe interface will be even flatter. I mean flat like F... FLAT - Apple will call it Space Flat. Just like the the booting chime. That was never removed - it's called Space Boot.
macOS 10.13 Snowflake
Perhaps the next macOS will get a politically correct name.
Given how many applications ship with macOS and how much functionality the OS (System Preferences gives you a view of a lot of those features), that you can only come up with one application shows that the 'dumbing down' is limited to only a few areas.Well, here is are some examples off of the top of my head:
Disk Utility
No thanks. OSX has been dumbed down enough already. No unification necessary especially if that involves making OSX a closed ecosystem - downloading software only from the (Mac)AppStore.
Sierra was a very disappointing release. Hopefully 10.13 will be better.
I don't understand why Apple give macOS still names; iOS, TVos don't have names
How does Launchpad dumb the system down? You don't have to use it, you can still open apps with the Finder as before.Features from iOS bought into OSX that do not belong. For example Launchpad. Another: Cannot close applications using Siri in OSX.
There is a lot of stuff that third-party software adds to the OS functionality, look at things like audio handling enabled by Airfoil and Audio Hijack Pro, or things like ExpanDrive, Mountain, TextExpander, BlueHarvest, Flux, Little Snitch, etc..I heard about it, but geez, this should be something built into macOS itself. On Windows 10, I can enable metered connection, disable background apps.
Which you don't have to switch to before 10.x.3 or 10.x.4 if you don't want to.I just wish they would release a new version because they have a lot of new features, not because its a new year. I'm not a fan of this annual release. Just as you get say El Capitan stable with 10.11.5 or .6 along comes Sierra
I'm sure one of you geographically inclined folks can figure out the location of that picture, thus telling us the name of the next OS![]()
My guess is that APFS will enable some innovation in regard to backups.1. Apple File System (obviously)
2. A new backup scheme that incorporates some form of data integrity check/protection
