That wasn’t reported on this site though was it, and those services announced are US only and always have been.
So all we will get in the UK is a new interface.... with the same old offerings it already has.
They said the TV shows and new app were coming to 100 countries. I think we might get something. At least a rehashed version of what Amazon have been offering me for a few years on my fire stick.

Unless you are alluding to theft, then no... people will have to pay. Content owners don’t owe us a thing. They are free to charge whatever they deem their work is worth.

Or not watch TV. There are other things to do like reading books or enjoying nature or actually talking to a friend face to face...

Haha Yeap, here in the UK you have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Now TV and then other apps that stream, oh and TV Player, that seems to be it, still those do cover a massive amount of media to watch..

Oh well with the he TV stiff not coming for a few months it gives Apple ample time to get the HomePod working to control playback on the Apple TV. Hey Siri play game of thrones and it starts playing on my TV.

I’ll have to watch the event later, if I can stay awake from what others have said in here..

That’ll never happen as Sky own the rights in the UK.. unfortunately.

On the fore TV you can already pay for channels like Eurosport, Hay U, the discovery and history channel. I think Apple will probably just give us options like that.

I mean if it’s a TV show I’ve purchased from iTunes. The HomePod should at least be able to playback content I’ve bought from iTunes. The google home can playback any show from Netflix, 4 OD and can do YouTube searches and then using voice I can get it to play whatever video I want from YouTube. It can even turn on my TV and switch the input to my chromecast.

I think the echo can do the same with the fire TV. For some reason I’ve never tested it.

The content is the same no matter where you go, with the exception of original programming on NetFlex and HULU,
but, Apple is oftering you true al a carte programming that a lot people are complain about. You just pick and choose
what you want and don't have to take the whole package...

Exactly....
What a lot of people are not understanding here, is that being able to view "everything" in one single app is HUGE to some of us. If I can get all my shows in one app, and it updates watched and UNwatched properly...t's been the missing link forever IMO.

Reading books costs money too. Ditto for talking to another person (not living with you) face to face.... transportation cost and such.

While none of this was really what I was hoping for from an Apple TV service (iTunes TV shows and movies, along with live TV, and original content for $49.99 per month - tall order, I know), I am looking forward to using the new app. I have Playstation Vue and will definitely appreciate watching everything on there through one app. If only Netflix would join in.

Is there a list somewhere of what the current TV app does and what this new app will do?
Seems like some functionality may be lost.
Currently shows from Hulu show up in the TV APP.
Shows from HBO, Prime are already available in the TV App sow what’s different?
From what I read Hulu won’t be a part of the revamped app, or did I misread something?

Echo can playback stuff on a Fire TV, and the Shield TV in the US as theirs a skill for it, but as per the norm it’s not our in the UK.....

I agree though that the HomePod should at least be able to do the same as Amazon and Google.

The redesigned Apple TV app will launch on iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV in May.

Considering how underwhelming this announcement was overall....I'm still not seeing why they couldn't wait until May when the announced app update is actually available.

(yawn)

Doesn't even bother me as I'm sure Apple's streaming quality and consistency would totally blow compared to the likes of YouTubeTV and Google, who flat out knows how to do this.

You're kidding, right? Apple was basically one of the first, if not the first, to start streaming video content via iTunes. If anyone knows how to do this right, it's Apple.

Live TV streaming, especially large or popular events, is a whole different animal.

I'm assuming they have aspirations to enter that space.

If not - you're right - no issues as they are just streaming static files to people.

I'm sure eventually, maybe they'll get into live TV streaming, but it could be a while yet until we see that. They are coupling in DirecTV Now and PS Vue into their app, but that could just be using their infrastructure and just showing it in the TV app.

And yes, I agree it's a whole different animal, which I don't even know if AT&T/DTV Now has it figured out completely yet.

Oh God, Apple will do anything to avoid attention on the idea of putting modern tech into their phones.

It's scary how bad Apple can be and still get support from their fanatics.

Can someone correct the record, if you go the Apple Website, they show Directv Now but not Directv which currently does not offer an app, has that changed?

If Directv is still not offering a general app, how does it work if you subscribe to Showtime/HBO through Directv, can you utilize the HBO/Showtime Apps through this new Apple TV app in the same fashion if you paid for the separate HBO app, God I wish somebody would unify all of this garbage.

Bring on the support of the Apple TV app for my ROKU TV and my Amazon Fire TV stick! It sounds like Apple is pushing an "Apple Everywhere" goal as far as the Apple TV app and associated content is concerned. Apple appears to want to be our gatekeeper for all media and content on all our devices, including on our TVs.
