Cue End of Life for AppleTV hardware!!

Perhaps for the consumer market but not in education. Many of the schools that have MacBook and/or iPad programs also have Apple TVs so devices can airplay to projectors. I wouldn’t be surprised if businesses are also big time Apple TV users.

It doesn't look like they made any improvements that will make me use the TV App more?

Current AppleTV TV app seems convinced my Vue subscription has CBS shows included, it doesn't, and does the same for my (older) cordcutter parents. Having to explain to them repeatedly that the CBS shows are only in the TabloTV app is a PITA.

Would have loved to see support added for TabloTV?

I'd love to see that, too. If I could see everything from Sling and Tablo from one app instead of having to switch between two, I'd be happy. Sounds like there's no reason to switch from Roku to AppleTV yet.

Would have loved to have seen more control over what each section displays, more granular preferences. Let me turn off everything I just really don't want in my way? Because that's what half of the app is right now. In my way.

Users/Profiles would have been a much welcome improvement.. Sadly..

The channel offerings are fine, for what they are? I'd rather see this grow into "Show me what I need to have to watch these things" (SciFI, Motorsports, local broadcast stations) Then, show me the cheapest way to get there.

Seems convoluted as Hell to have AppleTV Channels and AppleTV+ together, but separate, in the TV app with iTunes content and Vue/Hulu/etc content... I wonder how many less than savvy (yes, older) users will end up paying for things they really didn't want? I don't think many users want the TV app to be a store? Don't show me what I don't have, show me what I already have... That would be, you know, Insanely Great? Maybe they didn't present it in the best way, or is it really going to be as convoluted as it seemed?

Oh well.

Show me what I need to have and the cheapest way to get there is sorta what suppose.tv does.

Bring on the support of the Apple TV app for my ROKU TV and my Amazon Fire TV stick! It sounds like Apple is pushing an "Apple Everywhere" goal as far as the Apple TV app and associated content is concerned. Apple appears to want to be our gatekeeper for all media and content on all our devices, including on our TVs.
Don't you already have all the same apps/channels on your Roku TV? Why would you want to watch them through another GUI layer?

We have lots of separate apps on Roku. If I want to switch between Discovery on Sling and the local news on Tablo, I have to exit back to the Roku home screen and start another app. Roku calls each app a channel, but when the Sling "channel" has 35 actual channels and the Tablo "channel" has whatever my antenna can pull in, I'm noticing the lack of a unified interface.

I am not sure it is going to work any differently with Apple interface. Fewer clicks is possible but Apple still serves just as an aggregator. The streaming is done by the channels themselves so switching means re-connecting to a different server/company anyways (unless Apple does something similar to Apple Music).

HBO, Hulu, Netflix...apps run on everything. I wouldn’t choose to limit myself to the Apple TV app. Example, lots of people have Playstations and Xboxes. Didn’t see them mentioned.

Why couldn't they just offer a limited supply of movies & TV shows from the iTunes Store each month, and charge $9.99 for it?

Same thing I said. I’m still trying to figure out how this new app is different what what’s on the Apple TV now.

The TV channel a la cart model is what I've been wanting since the beginning of internet TV. If they can get the pricing into a better range than Amazon channels I'm 100% down. I'm running sling and Philo and Hulu now. Would love to get rid of it all.

for the moment i will keep on NETFLIX & HBO. i will try the apple TV+ after it would be give positive rating on the market.

I was thinking that, but will the app have all the other apps you might want but don’t get on your smart tv?

For example, I pretty much only watch soccer, Netflix, prime video, and probably the new Apple plus. The English Premier League is broadcast on NBCSN. They have a great app but my LG OLED C8 doesn’t have it (or AirPlay 2 like the C9 will when released next month). However, it does thankfully have very good native Netflix and Prime Video apps.

Will the new Apple TV Channels include NBCSN?

Will the new Apple TV app offer 4K UHD versions with Atmos sound or will you need the Apple TV hardware for that? (does the current app do that? I obviously don’t use it.)

If anyone knows, please post. Thanks.

Does anyone know if this will finally allow my kids to stream iTunes family purchases (movies) on their iPads without having to download them first? That's what has been holding me back from buying more iTunes movies. (I know MoviesAnywhere can do it, but I don't want multiple iTunes accounts and I live in the UK!)

I would hope not. The Netflix, Amazon Prime and what not apps on my Samsung Smart TV are dreadful.

I agree! My Samsung TV has Netflix built in, its only a couple of years old and wouldn’t support that interactive black mirror content released at Christmas! :(

What do you need to record? Have you tried any of the streaming services that aim to replace traditional cable? Most allow recording, or you can just load up an episode and watch it - like Hulu w/commercial free, the next day you just find the show and watch, no commercials, nothing.
Agreed, but NBA games tho

Apple bombed this unveiling of Apple TV service. Apple should have been the first company to offer 4k live and pre-programmed streaming across all channels. The service should be like (YouTube TV, Direct TV now, etc), but have a 4k option. For now I stay with YouTube TV.

A question about content, is the content for HBO/MAX/SHO/STARZ offered by Apple's Channels the same as the content that's offered by DirecTV NOW (AT&T TV)? Also, can I log into those individual apps with Channels using my password like I can with my AT&T TV provider?
