This is too early, the applications are pretty cool, but this will be too expensive and if people got too self conscious about wearing 3D glasses this is never going to fly, which is a real shame.

Does someone know what that cord is on the back of the headset? It’s huge and looks to go to the peoples pocket.

"For the VisionPro, we decided to use the best energy source in the world, something each of us are born with. Our ass. That's right, the VisionPro plugs right into your ass. Who wants to deal with batteries? You have to keep spares on hand, find the chargers, plug them in. Yuck!"

I’m not sure if this is hilarious or terrifying… I think it might be both. My favourite feature so far is FaceTime but where nobody can see your face… Apple has developed the most over-complicated and impractical way possible to watch 2D content while looking like an idiot. This is what happens when you only hire yes-men… Apple really need somebody to tell them this whole endeavour is utterly ridiculous and is dead in the water. I’m sure a few people will buy this… but they definitely won’t continue to buy it.

Convenient how they're avoiding to address the big cable plugged to the left of the device on every shot...
What are you tethered to?
Baterry pack wearing as belt with ethernet cable …. cca 4 kilos

Lol idk if you people are being sarcastic here but this has literally 20% of Meta's headset capabilities and the rest is Apple's marketing in action. Meta has nothing to worry about with this cringe device.

Apple used to be revolutionary, now they're always behind. Competition is always good though

Soooo...where's the killer app?

Disney3d+ isn't it.
Apple Arcade games aren't it.

If you ever see me walking around in public wearing one of these, remind me of the glasshole comments I've made in the past.

Apple today revealed the "Vision Pro" headset, its first mixed-reality headset device.

vision-pro-headset.jpg

Vision Pro is Apple's first mixed-reality device, showing passthrough video of a wearer's eyes. The device features an all-new operating system that features a three dimensional interface. Experiences in Vision Pro aren't constrained to the boundaries of a display, users can make apps any scale, and place apps wherever they wish. Environments extend beyond your physical space, and control how immersed you are by turning the digital crown. Apple says that it marks the beginning of "spatial computing."

A Home view floats in the world in front of you to feel "truly present" in your room. Users use a combination of their eyes, hands, and voice to control the device. It uses eye tracking, and finger tapping and flicking to scroll or select.

The headset features passthrough video of a wearer's eyes in a feature that Apple calls "EyeSight," showing different feedback to surrounding people about what you are viewing inside the headset.

Vision Pro also allows users to connect to their Mac and expand its display in a virtual space, including alongside apps running on Vision Pro itself.

FaceTime on Vision Pro can display life-sized individuals over video calls. There is an optimized experience for viewing photos and videos. Vision Pro is also "Apple's first 3D camera," showing depth in video with Spatial Audio. The headset features a cinematic video viewing experience to scale the screen beyond the dimensions of your room.

I’m here for this. I mean the hand tracking on the Quest 2 is brilliant but this does look very good. Love the 3d camera idea. Not sure I have the money yet but give them a few years….I’m here for more VR advancement.

Meta v Apple….round one…..FIGHT :D

I think this thread is worth a bookmark and a revisit in 5-7 years. There will be a lot of incorrect hottakes.

Similar to articles in 2007. Threads after the Apple Watch announcement, etc.

This is laying the groundwork for something big. Think glasses in 5-7 years that you wear most of the day. Items you look at at the store will have reviews pop up, HUD while driving, Health information while working out, the ability to zoom with your eyes, etc etc.

Is this the first product that doesn’t look better than the MacRumours render?

I think they explained why this thing won't really take off in the demo. It's the best 3D movie experience, but it's not. 3D has come and gone once a decade for the last ~30 years. People don't want 3D TV's because they don't want to watch TV alone, or sit around in a group wearing doofy glasses.

This might be better than a 3D TV, but the glasses are far, far more cumbersome, it's not happening.

I won't even start on that clip of that dad watching his kids through a big plastic headset. No.

Really cool tech, but this is not the next iPhone. 1% as many people will use this unless its form changes dramatically.

Don't get me wrong, AR and VR have really cool applications, but the way MS markets Hololens seems far more realistic.

But this isn't just 3D.
