For all of those folk complaining about the price (and admittedly, it is not cheap)...

...do any of you remember how much the original Apple Macintosh cost? What would that be in 2023 dollars?

If the Vision Pro eventually hits, there's a number of devices that could be obsoleted in time

If Apple remains a strong company 30 years from now, they probably will be a company that sells Visions/similar neural-based devices, Apple Cars, and spacefaring stuff

OMG, I just realized that the dystopian Electric State that wipes out humanity is happening!! Thanks Apple!!!

The tanlines will be epic! Can't wait!! 🤣
If they can improve the battery in future models then it's definitely something you could wear outside. They almost have to market it as a home device right now because of the 2 hour battery life.

Somewhere down the line you could be wearing a headset outside and with improved software you could do things like compare prices when grocery shopping just by looking at items, walk down a street and see reviews of shops you walk by, if you're lost or going somewhere for the first time then it could point you in the right direction, and probably not too exciting but billboards or adverts could appear in 3d as you look at them.

There are so many possibilities for this. Apple just need to sell this to the mass market, get affordable models out, and keep refining the hardware and software. Remember the iPhone didn't even launch with an App Store...

Is it though? I haven’t heard of VR being implemented with arm and hand tracking without some sort of controller or accessory. And yeah that’s a good point, but if you’re working on an app on a 3D environment you don’t have to have it vertically right in front of you. You could have it placed over a table at an angle so you don’t have to reach your arms up in front of you. It would be very useful to have it this way and I think it would solve the issue of your arms being hurt from reaching up on a vertical screen.
You are correct that it has only been done with controllers (to my knowledge) but a good example of a game that does it is Rec Room. It can be satisfying to slam buttons, but like I said, holding your arms straight out hurts very fast.

I already have over 5k+ worth of homecinema gear in my apartment. Sure, years ago i tried those "big screen" cinema apps on a oculus rift etc, those were nice and would be way nicer with apple's gear and implementation, but paying that much for a single user experience...no way !”

different needs for different people. how much will you pay to able to bring your home theater with you on planeS, hotels, to your bedroom. 100” tvs cost 10k+, projectors cheaper but pain to use outside dark room even with the new laser ust, not to mention have to hang a giant screen on the wall.

to have all this, potentially a much larger than 100” screen with no ambient light issues at 3.5k is very good value for folks who like their big screens.

of course it’s all wait for hands on to see if Apple can actually deliver the pq of a 4K laser projector, but all accounts seem to say yes. The projector manufacturers should be very nervous.

No-one buys a projector for one person, please link to these sources saying “projector manufacturers should be very nervous”.

They advertised this all wrong, it was all promotional, conceptual and mock-ups, all focussed on it being slick and polished, but they focused so much on that, that they overlooked the most important thing, a key selling feature, a reason to buy it. We needed clear cut use cases for why we need one, innovative solutions and apps, stuff that makes you think wow I need that. Instead we got a half an hour presentation that told me I could use messages or safari on it, something I could do much quicker, easier, more conveniently and less obtrusive on my day to day life by using my phone/Mac/iPad.

Indeed, this is an engineers' "everything and the kitchen sink" approach. It seems a technological masterpiece.

But on the product side, it seems closer to Homer Simpson's everyman's car (a flop!) than a device a boomer could use.

That said, I'm glad Apple has executed so well on tech so folks can experiment with the possibilities.

I'm not sure why it wasn't played up more, but I definitely see a market/demand for this among frequent flyers! I think there will be a lot of strong use cases that emerge over the next year or so. They were super smart with the modular nature of that battery pack. In short order they will have expanded packs that will last substantially longer than 2 hours. And here's the thing, they priced it in a way to to manage their initial production. The next iteration, when they've ramped up production, will probably come in at $2,999, and people will think it's a steal and it will be a must have for the holiday season '24. Apple's thought this out, we can all be certain of that.

Will be interesting to see how Snapchat works with this. Given its the younger generations go to messaging app of choice, if filters and so on work really well with the Vision every teenager will be wanting one. Could be the number 1 item on Christmas lists in 2024.

I can't wait to invite 20 friends over to my Apple Vision Pro super bowl party. Owning an AVP will be mandatory, so only $70,000 will need to be spent to make this happen. Then, less than two hours in, I will send everyone home to recharge their AVP headsets and the super bowl party will be over, long before the game ends (because who wants 20 cords lying around at a party). I think we're going to love it! 🤣😂🤣

yeah, I don't think many children/teens will request a $3,500.00 headset for christmas...

Fail. Too early and too bulky, even though it's a first generation model. Who is this for? Just people at home? Are people really going to wear these full time outside the home? Not a chance. What about people who wear glasses? Will this be comfortable long term with frames?
Watch the keynote (1:46:50) -- they have custom Zeiss optical inserts that magnetically attach for people with vision issues -- no need to wear glasses.

the technique of feeding you your outside world through the camera system is what makes this work so brilliantly for its mixed use. You can‘T have a crystal clear spreadsheet in front of your eyes on a clear or semi-opaque lens. It will compromise any augment you are using. This isn’t trying to be a set of shades that gives you nav info or context about an object you are standing on. That type of system would not work as an alternative for a movie screen or looking at high resolution images or your full “desktop”. This take on AR allows you to blend the outside world with whatever work or content you are working with. You will never get that control with a lens you can see through - it will always have a trade off.

A few years ago, I had an LG TV that converted 2D video to 3D video on the fly. It mostly worked fine, but the 3D was often a bit underwhelming and occasionally janky. If Apple could do this in the headset for any 2D video source, with ten years of algorithm improvements, and a bit of AI, this would probably be an insta-sell for me. Even at that price. :)

Also, it strikes me that Disney could be pushing 3D movies to the Vision headset, but they made no mention of it.

Just off the top of my head (there are many more examples I'm sure), Apple's Mac Pro, Studio and Mini desktop and Pro laptop customer base contains a significant, disproportionately high percentage (compared to Windows) of creative professionals - like digital video colorists, video editors, motion graphic designers, post production FX specialists and audio mixing engineers. Many of whom are increasingly part of the freelance gig economy and working independently. Very often, many of these disciplines require specialist, physical hardware controllers and input devices. We'll see glimpses of VisionOS versions of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro X, DaVinci Resolve and Adobe applications in the lead up to the launch which will inspire a lot of that customer base. At $3500 the Vision Pro will not only offer the potential for creative professionals like this to save money on physical monitor screens and hardware controllers and input devices, it will also open up entirely new work flows and techniques that have never been possible previously.

None of the kind of professionals you listed will be using this over a physical monitor. I say that as one of those kinds of professionals.

He’s a guy who earns his money off views and clicks, he’s garnering interest in his own channel. It’s very self serving.

My child is 12, he saw the presentation with me. Eagerly he waited for the VR part ... was excited. Bur even he, when saw the price, stood and left the couch disappointed ("What 3.5k, get out of here, ill gather for a Quest 2").
