Did you even watch the keynote? They’re not “entering” a product space, this is something new and unique…“Starting at $3499”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
They’ve lost their marbles. Entering a product space that has already failed to gain traction AND introducing a unit more expensive than half the computers they sell. This is insane.
It is different though. The FaceID scans, at least nominally but I think everyone, including professional security researchers, pretty much trust apple on this, only includes the fingerprint/checksum style data to recognize your face, and it never leaves the devices security enclave.Do you own an iPad Pro or a non-SE iPhone X or newer? Bad news if so.
They really glossed over this, but yeah it would. The quest uses a similar system and everyone can hear it at a slightly lower volume.I have a question.....being the user won't be using AirPods or some other device in their ear, does the sound leak out to others around them? Like, if you were on the plane watching a movie, couldn't the passenger next to you hear it?
The person they showed being on the airplane actually had AirPods in their ears.I have a question.....being the user won't be using AirPods or some other device in their ear, does the sound leak out to others around them? Like, if you were on the plane watching a movie, couldn't the passenger next to you hear it?
They advertised this all wrong, it was all promotional, conceptual and mock-ups, all focussed on it being slick and polished, but they focused so much on that, that they overlooked the most important thing, a key selling feature, a reason to buy it. We needed clear cut use cases for why we need one, innovative solutions and apps, stuff that makes you think wow I need that. Instead we got a half an hour presentation that told me I could use messages or safari on it, something I could do much quicker, easier, more conveniently and less obtrusive on my day to day life by using my phone/Mac/iPad.
Sorry guys, this looks like a fun thing to try once, a thing you hope your work gets or your friend gets so you can give it a go, but it’s not a product any standard user who doesn’t have unlimited funds to waste would buy.
You can see your pictures! And watch videos, on a really large ‘screen’. Like, really large! On an apps that like, drops shadows!! It’s been a real problem for you , for years, that your apps aren’t dropping shadows anywhere. What problem?? That’s the central issue. What problem does this solve?
I think we'll all survive... Or just bring a second battery, which is what I'd have anyway, so I can use it wirelessly and swap batteries as necessary.domestic dont though at least southwest
a few hour domestic flight is an ideal situation to watch a film time wise
Yeah that’s what I’m saying! Works brilliantly over my normal Wi-Fi 6 with virtual desktop. This tech exists right now. Quest 2 + Virtual Desktop = Half-life Alyx running on a Quest with no wires. I would imagine this experience would be enhanced by the added bandwidth of Wifi 6E, as right now you need a dedicated router for best possible results, as it needs almost the full bandwidth of 5GHz Wifi 6 for a much lower resolution video. Regardless, this is possible.
The question becomes: how long can I sit with the gadget strapped to my head before it becomes uncomfortable? This is the real barrier to this type of product. The "killer app" for me would be the ability to work without distractions and have "multiple monitors" without an elaborate hardware setup. I'd need to use it though to see if it would work as well as I'm imagining it would.
I did not watch it, but this is a VR headset. Seeing you say it’s something new and unique tells me their marketing is very effective (no surprise, it usually is).Did you even watch the keynote? They’re not “entering” a product space, this is something new and unique…
Let’s have that conversation in a few years. This is gonna flop harder than Google Lens. It’s an enthusiast, professional product, with a professional price, but with features aimed at your mainstream average user audience, it’s just so ill conceived it’s barely believable that it came from Apple.
Everything about it is wrong, the price, the presentation, the price, the battery setup, the price, the feature set and did I mention the price?!
It will get an initial Apple boom but it will die off. They tried hard at the end to sell the value but it didn’t land, it’s a phone, a Mac, a TV blah blah blah that can do so much more than those, hence the $3500 price tag, only it can’t do more than those, it can do some of those devices tasks with a few extra gimmicks, but costs far more in one hit (we all own those devices already) and loses many of their key features. A TV for example can be watched by a family, it can be hooked up to a game console, it can be used for audio only for the whole room etc. This offers productivity apps like a Mac but without the precision, speed and fine detail of proper tactile controls.

Your hands being traced by cameras is not a precise control system, it’s Microsoft Kinect all over again, they did this same pitch and it sucked back then too. They also pitched similar features such as virtual rooms and gatherings to watch a TV show or movie in.
I wanted to like this, but they have no argument for why it exists, they tried to shoe horn some selling points that actually landed as poor ideas. For example transfer my Mac screen to this seamlessly… if I’m on my Mac already, why would I want to transfer to this? That’s not convenient. If you wanted to make this truly appealing don’t just demo iOS on it, we all have iOS already. This thing needed a killer feature, they didn’t present us with one.
They came close, with the Disney+ presentation (albeit again all conceptual and not real), and the talk of a huge cinema like screen you could use on a plane or something… they then announced the two hour battery life and buried that idea before it even took off.
The battery on a cable was also dreadful, I’d rather have the weight on my head. It reminded me of old school TVs from decades ago with the remote on a wire.
Sorry guys, this looks like a fun thing to try once, a thing you hope your work gets or your friend gets so you can give it a go, but it’s not a product any standard user who doesn’t have unlimited funds to waste would buy.
No, not a VR headset at all. You really need to spend the 25 min and see the presentation …I did not watch it, but this is a VR headset. Seeing you say it’s something new and unique tells me their marketing is very effective (no surprise, it usually is).
But come on, it’s a VR set. And VR has already gone the way of 3D TV.
Plus.. having no killer app for it. The gaming headsets do gaming, HoloLens has a niche in the business space. This killer app is, you got home theatre you can wear on your head.“Starting at $3499”

I don’t think this is meant to replace gaming headsets natively. It’s going to be pretty difficult to make games with no controllers. I think it’s going for a different demographic… it’ll probably require something like virtual desktop mixed with some controller solutions to be viable as a VR game platform. All joking aside, I wouldn’t switch my psvr2 for this, it looks crap.
If you’re sitting at a desk you can plug it in and use it as much as you want. The battery life is just unplugged from a wall. That being said, probably still take it off and take a break every two hours anyways.well, the point is, a 3.5k laptop is used every day for hours.
this device isn't. there is a lot of talk, but in the end it is rather unlikely that this device will be a game changer. not with the low numbers this will sell for sure. people will play a game, but they will not wear this for hours and use it for work, video calls, watching photos and movies, etc.
