What would your solution be to give power?
Not this, they only need to add a plastic around the connector and the cable like the do with the lightning cable. (note the black one from the Mac Pro)

Hold on kids. Let me get my film camera.

I did not watch it, but this is a VR headset. Seeing you say it’s something new and unique tells me their marketing is very effective (no surprise, it usually is).

But come on, it’s a VR set. And VR has already gone the way of 3D TV.
This is a “VR” headset in the same way the first iPhone was a smartphone. As in it will redefine the category to the point that the category as it currently exists will be unrecognizable and barely defined by the term. I think it is way closer to AR than VR (but still with elements of VR) in its shown use case, but obviously you wouldn’t get that since you… didn’t bother watching…?

Well somebody has swallowed the marketing nonsense around this I see!

It is just another VR handset and I think people are trying to persuade themselves because it has the name Apple on it, it’s something new and different. Which it really isn’t.
As a previous HTC vive owner and a current Quest 2 owner it really is unlike anything currently on the market.

LOL it’s nothing like the original iPhone. This is just slapping a coat of paint on something that’s been around for ages.

I buy and try more tech devices/gadgets than anyone I know. From Virtual Boy (🤣) to the first iPod, iPhone, iPad to Google Glass to Oculus to the Z Fold 3 & 4 (waited for it to get better than gen 1/2) and now the Pixel Fold I've pre-ordered. I was the only person I knew who owned Neo Geo and the Panasonic 3DO back in the day. I even bought the $1000 Optimus Prime that transforms himself and can do push-ups, I'm not kidding. The list goes on and on. I say all this to say that I have zero interest in and will not be pre-ordering the Apple Vision Pro. Nothing about this product appeals to me because: A. I hate strapping tech devices to my head and B. I prefer my reality over AR/VR and I prefer human interaction (with friends and family, not the public) over isolation. However, if you are excited to try this, good for you. I hope you enjoy it.

First impressions...

--Too GD expensive. The people with money to burn will be the beta testers and good on them. This version will go the way of the gold Apple Watch (anyone still wearing the 1.0 of that hot mess?).

--The battery pack might be a huge problem. With no stats yet of how this thing will burn through the pack, if you can't plug into wall power while using it somehow and being forced to buy extra (guessing proprietary and expensive) battery packs will kill this thing.

--If the marketing presentation of this doesn't accurately describe the actual experience it'll crash and burn (until 2.0).

--The accessibility folks might have a bunch to say about this product. Sure not every Apple product can be 100% user friendly and this might not be that big of a deal, but I don't expect that community to stay silent.

--Apparently no diopter so anyone with glasses will have to shell out for Zeiss prescription lenses inserts. Will this be the Mac Pro expensive wheels add-on?? If your prescription changes? Cha-ching. :\

--The little pinching and flicking hand movements are not where I was hoping this would go. I want to see some "Minority Report"-level GUI control.

--Speaking from experience, this was a video presentation. Supposedly they are giving test drives of the product to the media at WWDC. I would assume that these are very guarded, employee led experiences to make this look as good as possible. The iPhone barely made it to Steve's hands for the unveiling and everyone held their breath while he demoed it and NOBODY was allowed to touch it at the booth (I was there). There's a very good chance that, since this thing won't be released until 2024, it's not even finished yet. I'll be very curious to hear what the media that could use it have to say about it.

--History lesson: Beta vs. VHS...Beta wins--until porn shows up--then VHS wins. Let's see where porn takes this battle.

--Did I say it's too GD expensive already? ;)

I wonder how many MR users will put one of these on a credit card because they can't afford it outright, wear it at home a few times and to Starbucks to flex, and then return it a week later when they realize not only does it suck, but they also can't afford it. A lot, I would wager. 😁

Why will this mistruth about Beta v VHS never die? It’s because VHS was a better format for what the device was intended for (time shifting, recording sports games), and thus had a better install base once home media came around. Beta’s length just wasn’t long enough, and the superior picture quality didn’t last very long once Beta 2 got implemented, and later made the default. Porn was negligible if it affected the format war at all.

Well, as a disabled person, I would love to have this for work. I can buy this, or one of the fancy zero gravity gaming chairs - which will probably be needed to be able to physically be able to work until retirement age. Same cost, one takes up a huge chunk of real estate.

i was team no way, never…. But it is a device that will let me keep doing things I enjoy long past the time my body fails me. Hopefully that body can pull off some OT come 4th quarter to pay for it.

I wonder when the first story about someone being distracted by this thing and causing a wreck or crash or some tragedy will happen. The only thing I was thinking during that presentation is I don't want to live in a world where everyone is wearing some kind of googles and can't enjoy the wonder of nature or just things around them. It really is a "Ready Player One" vibe and I feel a dystopian future with it.

I would love to read a story on here about the safety concerns and how Apple addresses them. With 5K patents, I hope they have asked what safety issues might arise and how they could be addressed.

I just read all 65 pages of comments but haven't seen anywhere...that's 3,500...in American dollars?
