...And so the transition from Aqua faux-3D to Ive-inspired flat minimalism continues...

I'm still wondering why the Hard Drive icon in Yosemite (as well as the Boot Camp Assistant icon in Yosemite) still remains unchanged this close to launch. What happened to end-to-end, top-to-bottom redesign?

If you do not like what others think about the direction Apple is going you can alway disconnect your internet and stop whining about whiners.

Him pointing out whiners does not make him a whiner (the up votes agree). And people can complain about the direction of apple if they want, its just annoying when they complain about it as if they already messed something up when it hasn't been released yet.

What is the opposite of skeumorphism?

Anti-skeumorphism?

Plain & visually boring?

Reminiscent of when graphics cards could only display 8 or 16 colors (pre-Amiga days)?

Correction (since Apple is going there): modern & cutting edge, the future, sleeker, cooler, etc (maybe snappier?)

all ;)

Edit: come to think of it, the lack of much color (range), depth, shadows, etc does remind me of this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYpqUwrdo...BY/ronkaKoXRIM/s1600/InputOutput+06242011.jpg so maybe this is "the future"...

...or the best they could imagine in 1987 when thinking about future flat panel interface UI?

Your post is an example of what I'm talking about. Why suggest something so extreme as disconnecting my internet? For that matter, somebody already tried hacking into my MacRumors account today, so maybe you're not the only one suggesting that I simply shut up.

What I don't understand is why so many people exaggerate every single negative facet of Apple and their products. Yes, I experience issues with Apple products just like the people I call whiners. I am not suggesting that Apple is perfect. But when I experience an issue, I either figure out a solution on my own, or ask the users here for help, making sure I remember to thank the users who give me advice- I don't always do a great job at that, but I try. What I don't do is turn my thread into an emotionally charged rant over how my single issue shows that Apple is going downhill, or flame those who haven't experienced my issue.

At the end of the day, I know that my money is mine to spend on whatever I want- if Apple products no longer meet my needs, I know that I have other options. I won't need to try to exaggerate the issues I have or convince people to side with me against Apple. I'll just buy something from another manufacturer like HTC or Motorola.

I think the ones that are most tied at the hip to Apple are the ones that can't seem to let go when it's obviously time.

Apple Wankers & Whiners

Here's an easy & stress-free solution for you - Don't visit this website; it's that easy.

Do we Apple loving fans like to read all the constant bitching over every twist & turn Apple takes? You bet. :roll eyes:

Does it make you feel good or even superior to be constantly critical with every MacRumors post about our company? I'll bet so. :roll eyes:

I think most of us here really like to find out as much in advance for the pure pleasure. I hate to say it, but Apple employs many people who really have the pulse of the buying population and they get it done correctly. Not always on the first try, but they do!

Does the first Corvette that rolled off the assembly line in 1953-54 look & perform the same as the 2015 model? The Mustang? The telephone? The Apple computer? No need to go on here.

Relax Take a breath and think about why you like Apple. You are here after all, right? ;)

Good call, yet interesting still is the fact the first year Corvette and even the first generation Apple computer is worth much more than their brand new counterparts.

I have the public beta of Yosemite. To be honest, I have barely spent time with iTunes 12. It seems that now I use my iPad or iPhone for music more than the Mac. I just have not noticed much of the changes. I am liking Yosemite, but would be hard pressed to give much objective opinion on iTunes. I had not realized this until reading this article.

Still I am glad it's there. I just need to go check how beatunes integrates. Hopefully no issues.

apple's look isn't too bad going all flat, just that you need better and better eyesight every year to comfortably read it... unfortunately my eyesight is growing in the opposite direction. might force me to get lasik soon.

def will prompt me to upgrade to a retina Cinema Display if it ever comes to life.

i for one would love to see a more deeply integrated dark mode.

i agree with everything you said, except for this, as it relates to iTunes.. the thing is, iTunes has been a steaming pile for a very very long time now and yet instead of hearing about them fixing issues, we're just getting yet another interface tweak. iTunes has been consistently horrible experience for me since version 9 or so, and even after trying every "fix" that you can imagine, the problems persist... its not whining. its legitimate complaints about issues that hasnt been fixed, in some cases for years While the phenomena you describe is very real, iTunes is one of the things I will freely complain about and will tolerate others doing so, because, honestly, for a company that claims to pay as much attention to details as Apple says they do, iTunes is a really conspicuous black eye on an otherwise excellent product portfolio.

Consider starting your own website called OnlyPositiveAppleComments.com or OnlyPraisingApple.com or similar. If this site actually heeded your wish, it would dry up to nothing. Every thread with 500 posts of only "rah rah Apple" would quickly get old.

The counterpoint when it's actually constructive is often more interesting than the "Apple can do no wrong" cheerleading. If it's only the koolaid drinkers, imagine how boring that would be.

If you personally only want positive spin visit Apple PR http://www.apple.com/pr/ all (Apple) positive, all of the time.

Another step in the wrong direction when it comes to usability.

It is like how they keep making the finder harder to use by taking color away in the sidebar and icons, lowering the contrast on folder icons while making them way too saturated ...

I can't wait for the flat and minimal fad to be over, where we go back to something more than just outlined shape icons, grey text on white backgrounds, icons with a bit more size to them, ...

Doesn't have to be a rainbow, but I find Apple's OS and software from a couple years ago more comfortable on the eye and easier to use. Stripping the color out, hiding options and features, and shrinking everything is just less practical. Period.

Nice.

I'm digging all the latest iTunes improvements. Apple lost their way for a few versions, now its coming together.

But see, this is a logical complaint. One that I fully understand. iTunes absolutely could be a whole lot better if Apple did some under the hood work. You didn't rant on and on about unrelated things- you simply stated that iTunes just doesn't work for you. Nothing wrong with that at all.

You're missing the point. Nobody is complaining about people bringing up their issues with Apple products, nor is anybody suggesting that such behavior should stop. Just today, I posted a thread about how Touch ID hasn't been working very well for me. But so many vocal complainers seem to have fundamental disagreements with the way Apple conducts business and the direction that the company is going, and never miss a single opportunity to turn thread after thread into another podium to proselytize whoever will listen. Which is certainly their right, but it boggles my mind why someone would continue to even consider buying products from a company that obviously chaps their hide raw. I sure know I wouldn't.

I hope it fixes the problem I have where iTunes constantly asks for my password so it can automatically download content when I specifically have my preferences set to NOT download anything automatically.

I really hate the flat borderless bright colors the entire Tech industry has moved to. It looks awful, it's confusing, all sense of depth is removed. It also removes any sense of important information. I can't wait for this fad to die out.

Hear hear! It's nice enough with iPads and iPhones, but with computers and long work sessions the flat design is not the best way to go IMO. Nah, I really like the new features in Yosemite, but I'll hold on to Mavericks for quite some time I think...

I agree. I sometimes have to boot up Snow Leopard and did so the other day. IMO, that's still the best Mac OS yet. Wish Apple would go back to SL and fork a Mac-focused OS X team from that foundation. For several years now it seems OS X is mostly just following and even somewhat emulating iOS. Yet OS X is running on so much more powerful hardware than iDevices. It seems like it should be doing more leading and less following relative to iOS.

Personally, I was somewhat shocked at the OS X reveal at WWDC when the first big thing that was touted with several minutes of discussion and followup and even re-capped by Cook afterwards was modestly more translucent windows and UI elements. Is adjusting the translucency a little really that big of a feature? Is it going to make a big enhancement to using our Macs? I couldn't believe how much time it got (discussed and referenced) in the preview. A transparency adjustment! If you've forgotten go back and watch again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnR9RkQkYBY#t=220 starting about 2:30. It's about the first thing they start talking about (after joking about the potential names of OS X) and it actually gets a good while and comes up again and again later.

Maybe this is really hard to code in the OS X underpinnings? I know from working with graphics files that a single adjustment can adjust transparency to various levels at a click (or by changing a percentage). But maybe this was a huge undertaking for Apple programming? I don't know.

I don't think it looks bad or anything but I'm surprised how something like transparency can get talked about so much when previewing a new OS. Other stuff like Continuity seemed big- even "WOW!"- but I was into the presentation pretty far a bit less excited than I expected with a new OS preview.

Maybe because people have spent lots of time and money buying into the echo-system. Apple were about attention to detail. Every little pixel was important.

If you're invested in something so much, you've got a right a bitch and complain all you want when they ruin it.

Yep. We had designs that pretty much worked—even Windows 7 was fairly decent-looking—and it's been tossed away for a stupid design trend that is objectively bad. Especially disappointing to see Apple blindly following trends.

I too have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on Apple products. And yet what do I accomplish when I get upset other than raising my blood pressure? I just do what I can to resolve the issue and move on with my life. No use in getting upset when something is beyond your control.

GM Candidate 3 also

*** actually it seems I was slow since this was yesterdays news

Whatever "fad" is next surely isn't going to be a return to ugly rounded buttons. Just look at UI design since the late 90's, it's gotten gradually flatter over the whole period. It's not a fad. Mavericks is 10x more flat than OS X 10.0
