"allowing for up to a 120Hz refresh rate" - BTW, 4k144 monitors are now a LOT more affordable and work together with later MBP models too. Some even support HDR (but for one-fourth the price, ofc noone should expect for example 2000 nits.)

Pretty much a display without the internal computer for the same price. Not seeing a huge market for this. This would be nice but selling large amount?

Apple's upcoming display is said to feature mini-LED technology along with ProMotion support, allowing for up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is not expected to be a direct replacement for the Pro Display XDR, which is a larger, 6K display. It will instead be similar to the Apple Studio Display, which is a 27-inch monitor.

While I agree it will not be a replacement for the Pro Display XDR, I do believe it will be part of the Pro Display XDR family, paired either with the current 6K model or launched beside the 32" 7K ProMotion display that Filipe Espósito with 9to5Mac first mentioned back in March.

By labeling it a Pro Display XDR family member, it allows Apple to place it above the Apple Studio Display in the line-up in terms of pricing and allows Apple to use features like MiniLED and ProMotion to differentiate between the "Studio Display" and "Pro Display" families.

27 is way too small to get work done, try having 2 windows side to side with a descent sized font, it should be 30 at the very least. 32 would be best. That said, you can get a Cinema display 30 for less money and better quality.
Agree And I think this varies depending on your work flow. As a designer I do think 27 is small for my use, 32 would be great but I ain’t paying $8,000 for a monitor lol

As someone who has used 4K and 5K screens a ton and side by side at times, I can say with 100% confidence that 5K is noticeably better than 4K especially when it comes to text. It is an absolute pleasure to work on a 5K screen (Studio Display for example) and I have a 4K 144hz LG Ultragear next to it. There is no comparison.

Maybe my eyesight is bad, but for macOS UI elements and text I can't notice a difference in display quality between the Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR. Not sure what advantages a Mini-LED will have unless you are doing detailed photo/video editing.

As both are Retina displays, you should not be able to notice a difference in the quality of rendered text and images. :)

The Pro Display XDR's main benefit over the Studio Display (beyond size) is support for HDR thanks to the higher peak and sustained brightness.

Lol current studio display shouldn’t cost this much, now I’m regretting it fml but paying 3k for display is insane can’t justify that
I paid $749 for a 4k HDR 600 240hz monitor looks just as good as my 5k Apple display. And it plays games better and has mini display, hdmi and Display Port adapter. 600 nits in HDR. Granted us has no speakers. But $3k for an extra K….. and maybe 300-400 more nits. For $2000 plus extra??????
If true, this will give everyone who said they wouldn't buy a Studio Display because of the refresh rate an opportunity to say they won't buy this display, because of the price.
when the display market being so affordable and competitive now I find apples pricing extremely prohibitive. I can afford a $3k display.
But when I could just buy something comparable for 1/3rd the price why buy Apple? I got a dozen Apple stickers with my devices over the years. Slap one on and forget any of this happened. 🤣

We need that on an iMac, how long do we have to wait. Those 24” iMacs are not for video and heavy 3D work.
This is a clue that there is a Mac mini coming out before the long awaited iMac.
Almost feels like it’s not coming. I think a 30” or 32” iMac would happen way before a 27” would.

Yup 32 is the new hotness right now. Now having a 32" display I seriously can't go back to 27" If they need to bump it up to 6K resolution to stay "retina" then so be it.

Yup, but that price difference - you can get a decent 4k144 monitor for 500-600 bucks. Of course the Apple monitor will be much better - but at four times the price.

Except for the jacket crumbling on the signal cable, I’m still happy with my TB display.

I'm hopeful for an update of the XDR at larger than 32" and 7K res.
But, more interested in the current XDR to drop in price once the version 2.0 comes in.
