They could have announced them...

Apple does not like to announce a product that will not be available for volume shipments for six months - unless it's a(n) (i)Mac Pro, of course. :D

Same reason they did not launch these new MacBook Pros at WWDC per plan since people who ordered WWDC afternoon would likely still be waiting for deliveries considering how quickly the first week of availability sold out and the highest-end configurations are now pushed into December.

I think he means that the resolution of the ultra-wide monitors looks weird at the physical size of the screen.

I tend to agree. If my 27" 5k monitor can display a resolution of 3360 x 1890, then a larger physical screen size needs to scale up the resolution from there, not nearly cut it in half.

Of course, that may not be what he meant. ?‍♂️
If that's what he meant I agree. I'll use my 5K iMac monitor in 90% of the cases compared to my 34" UW connected next to it that's 1440p. It does make up for it by being 144Hz however :)

But just as a general screen layout, if you're fine with two (1440p) monitors side by side, you'll be even finer with an UW.

I wonder why they haven't updated Mac and iMac lineup with M1P/X soc's...
They’ll go in the big iMacs. The little one is a consumer-level machine.

I expect they’ll update them around when they do the new MacBook Air with the M2.

There should be both a 27 and a more expensive 32 with a 6K resolution.

If Apple releases a new Thunderbolt Display using the same MiniLED panel said to be going into the iMac, we will likely then see a new Pro Display XDR based on MiniLED or OLED.

So mate that panel with the Mac Pro SoCs (Jade2C-Die and maybe Jade4C-die), call it the iMac Pro, and start it at $4999 (or more).

A 32" iMac display would be for the Professionals and only come in Silver. The 27" iMac display would join the 24" iMac display and come in the same colors as this iMac would target the "affluent consumer level Mac Lovers" who love the colors but want a bigger display - and can afford it!

With luck the 32" would be designed to handle the M2 and M3 chips when Apple is ready for them. ;)

According to the rumours from yesterday the 27" iMac might be called iMac Pro. And even if not I can't imagine that it will come in the same colours a the iMac 24". I suppose silver and space gray only. Maybe even only space gray.

Makes sense to call the iMac with the M1 Pro and M1 MAX the "iMac Pro" since it would dovetail with the new MacBooks Pro with the same SoCs.

Kuo rumored a 27" MiniLED 5K display 18 months ago for an iMac Pro, though at the time he assumed it would be the Intel model and not this new Apple Silicon one.

Still hope Apple use the same panel in a new Thunderbolt Display.

Since this is just a wishlist I want a Touch ID sensor as a small Apple Logo on the bottom right corner of the screen maybe illuminated and either nothing in the middle or a display for widget(s) notifications etc

If I can afford a 27” I’m more interested in 32-64 GB of RAM and maybe an AMD GPU option than colors

Why would Apple use an AMD GPU in a new iMac? That wouldn't make any sense at all, considering what they've done with the new Macbook Pros... and new 24" iMacs... and new Mac Mini. Guarantee they'll start at $2299 (minimum!) to differentiate from the 24" models, "Pro" moniker or not.

Because it’s a higher end model and the performance is better - but it’d change the form probably too much

Maybe, maybe in the new Mac Pro since that's always been modular, but I could see Apple never using a 3rd-party GPU ever again unless it was in an MPX module enclosure, due to their move to AS. Hope I'm wrong, but the performance of Apple's new AS "GPUs" have been pretty stellar.

Better than the M1 Max? I’m not as familiar with AMD graphics cards but if apple stuck with Intel, they’d use the Radeon RX 6700 XT card right? I don’t think this is any better than the M1 Max (and certainly doesn’t come with video encode/decode and NPU benefits). Not to mention if apple does an M1 Max Duo option it would assuredly blow away anything AMD has to offer for the iMac form factor and power limits.

The machine is also expected to feature a new, slim design, extra ports, options for the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, and more, all for an approximate cost of at least $2,000. For additional information about the new ‌iMac‌ Pro

Contrary to earlier rumors that suggested the new ‌iMac‌ could have a larger display, in a previous report Young said that the ‌iMac‌ would retain the same 27-inch display size but use a mini-LED panel with ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz, just like the latest high-end MacBook Pro models.

  • 27-inch display
  • Mini-LED
  • 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate
  • Pro Display XDR-like design
  • Black bezels
  • M1 Pro/M1 Max chips
  • Thunderbolt ports, SD card slot, HDMI port
  • Ethernet port power adapter
  • ‌iMac‌ Pro naming to differentiate from 24-inch ‌iMac‌
  • ~$2000 starting price

Sadly I agree, I ordered a cheap (450 dollar) 32 inch 4k monitor and I'm never going back to a smaller monitor.

It may be crap compared to the 16 Macbook pro I preordered but its so much bigger. I'll wait for cheaper options in bigger sizes.
I completely disagree. I bought a 32" monitor for a Mac mini and wish I had a 28-inch one instead. Everyone is different and has different needs and desires. I do understand too much real estate isn't the worst thing that can happen to a person.

Agree...After connecting my Mac mini to a 43" LG monitor, watching four 21" live websites simultaneously and AVOIDING COMMERCIALS has fulfilled one of my goals!...LOL
