siri only understands me when i talk slowly like a robot to it which makes me sound like a fool. i even feel redic when i do it all by myself

What if they had a "Hi I'm an iPhone" kind of ad campaign?

It'd be easy, just think about it...

Android: That new software was announced... I guess I'll be camping here for 6 months or so... It might come then.
iPhone: That's too bad Android... You see, with an iPhone, you're guaranteed updates. When it's released, everyone gets it. It's simple

or...

Android: That new app is out... but it's only for iPhone. But they'll make an Android version sometime. I think

or...

Android: Shutting down... my battery's almost drained!
iPhone: Really Android? It's only 3PM. We have the rest of the day to get through...

(By the way, I'm not an Android hater)

Siri seems to understand me quite well without having to talk like a robot, but I am not sure why the release of a commercial is news on this site. Maybe I am just old and jaded.

These are fine ideas BUT...

the problem is Apple is not the underdog anymore. That style worked fine because they were considered as the underdog. Now, it would come out as really obnoxious.

Apple used to concentrate on really cool things

Now they are still producing nice things, but they are losing the cool factor. At least that's what I think about a campaign with people talking to phone that replies with prerecorded phrases. Some geeks used to do similar things in the 1980s.

This is Apple saying to the competition: Can you do this, punk? Well, can you?

actually this is Apple saying to those not blinded by marketing brainwashing that the 4S has one significant feature and it's the only thing they can sell the unit on that hasn't been done on previous iterations and doesn't look outclassed by other devices.

Not only that but the fact Siri could easily be ported to other iOS devices just makes this marketing overload look a bit pathetic.

The 4S is a stopgap device being propped up by one feature.

oh yeah, I'll defiantly give you that.

Still as much as I enjoy Siri, these ads to mislead a lot of people. I am really looking forward to Siri's future though.

I wonder if these ads are as much part of the Siri development process as they are selling phones. Presumably, Siri gets better as more people use it because the system is using the questions as part of the learning process. However there's always been the danger that if it doesn't work properly, then people enjoy the novelty for a while and then stop using it, eventually forgetting it's there. Perhaps the ads are prompting people to go back and give it another go.

Anyone else happen to think of this?

"Fitter, happier, more productive,
Comfortable,
Not drinking too much,
Regular exercise at the gym
(Three days a week),"

:)

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!

As a huge fan of Apple's advertising, I hate the SIRI campaign.

Apple is best at tapping into the HUMAN experience; not indulging in celebrities talking to "a robot"... an application that most of us know rarely works to begin with.

Zoeey Deschanel asking her phone if it's raining outside!?!? Really?!?!?

Enough!!!!!

Agree 100%, I find these ads simply ridiculous and borderline depressing. Even Siri's voice is god-awful. Frankly, the last thing in the world I want is a stupid robot talking to me with a faux personality. It's pathetic and just weird.

Personally, I like the new ads. Rather thought provoking in my opinion. Would love to a few with the likes of Einstein, Freud, Poe, Jung, Thoreau.......

A vapid actor talking about things he doesn't even start to understand the depth of, in a vapid commercial of a vapid phone and tv company for a phone selling at wall mart. Business as usual.

June 20XX, Iphone X presentation -

"And one more thing. We completely removed Siri, so you don't waste your time anymore asking about things you already knew. Now, you have much more time to talk with your friends and family members.".
......................
(Huge applause)

These two newest ads aren't that great... At all. Like someone else said, creepy.

Maybe you don't know John Malkovich. This is exactly the sort of role he loves to play.

Intentionally a little weird, or even creepy? You bet!!

That's exactly the target group

I'm glad to see that Apple realizes hipsters are less and less interested in the iPhone. Now it's usually richer older men or people who cant work with technology in general (often girls, no offence).

"The cool kids" now go for the Galaxy S2 and S3. (already 9 million devices pre ordered, and it doesn't even have the brand awareness / hipe like Apple).

I miss the Get a Mac campaign.

You would have loved the "I'm iPhone. I'm Andriod." ad campaign they test ran last year. Their we're several diatribes they had I'm mind such as: two teenage girls (one popular and one emo), two salesmen (one Apple store style and another a car salesmen and my favorite a cowboy and Indian (cowboy's Andriod while the Indian was iPhone.) Came down that they couldn't decide on a pairing that hit the right demographics. Wouldn't be surprised that it died along with Steve.

Android is a bit too geeky to be cool (IMHO), i think the hipsters will be turning to WP7. The lumia's are very fashionable phones and like Apple 10 years ago, WP7 is the underdog.

(BTW i know MS is massive but i'm talking only about WP7)

I never understood the criticism of Siri's voice recognition. I use Siri almost daily for setting my alarm for the next morning, text message dictation, and even help with finding formulas for my physics and calculus classes. Siri very rarely misunderstands me.
