actually this is Apple saying to those not blinded by marketing brainwashing that the 4S has one significant feature and it's the only thing they can sell the unit on that hasn't been done on previous iterations and doesn't look outclassed by other devices.

Really, this is still part of the anti-Apple playbook, the ol' people are being brainwashed by advertising, but I'm too smart to fall for this routine?

Boring. The 4S is the best-selling smart phone ever. Too bad only you seem to see through the emptiness of it. How clever of you!

It has been said before, but all this Siri stuff is so sad... and the sadness just gets enlarged by these adds. I really don't know anyone that would like to talk to a phone. Or is it the other way around : people who talk to phones don't really know/have anybody (to talk to) ?

Imho, siri is a symptom of modern life, I really hope this technology, this new "cool" way of life stops here... I don't want to know where it leads next to be honest.

This is really bad... it shows Apple more like big blue and John as another one of their slaves. Really creepy and lacking any human interaction.

I never understood the criticism of Siri's voice recognition. I use Siri almost daily for setting my alarm for the next morning, text message dictation, and even help with finding formulas for my physics and calculus classes. Siri very rarely misunderstands me.

I guess if everyone was an exact clone of you then your point would have some validity. At least until regional accents evolved on your clone planet.

Gotta say, not feeling the ads (and I'm not a Malkovich fan, so that's understandable). I didn't know Siri would respond to one-word queries that way, though, so it did introduce me to capabilities I wasn't familiar with, and maybe that's success enough.

I edited my post cause....you got me there.
Tower was what I was really getting at.

And what, prey tell, do you think is so bad about laptops?

They still run the same thing as a desktop, they pretty much are the same except maybe not as good specs and portable. And you can get some laptops that have some great specs (just not a Mac laptop). So you really can't even argue that you can't do the same thing on a desktop as a laptop.

I fail to see why you make a distinction there that it's so horrible that Apple makes laptops and lumps them in with crap.

"Being John Malcovich" was my idea.

Strangely, I know genius when I see it. I'm glad to have helped Mr. Malcovich's career early on by adding his life, name, and reputation to cinema history.

Maybe you don't know John Malkovich. This is exactly the sort of role he loves to play.

Intentionally a little weird, or even creepy? You bet!!

that's the only role he can play, and it's a caricature by now.

You would have loved the "I'm iPhone. I'm Andriod." ad campaign they test ran last year. Their we're several diatribes they had I'm mind such as: two teenage girls (one popular and one emo), two salesmen (one Apple store style and another a car salesmen and my favorite a cowboy and Indian (cowboy's Andriod while the Indian was iPhone.) Came down that they couldn't decide on a pairing that hit the right demographics. Wouldn't be surprised that it died along with Steve.

The perfect pairing would be a real human (iPhone) and a robot (Android). That pretty much sums up what makes the iPhone better in my opinion.

the ads don't make me want to buy a phone, but i don't sit around talking to a phone, i use a phone to talk with other real human beings.

Did anyone pick up on the "two iPhones walk into a bar" thing? I wondered if it was referenced to "and one wound up online at a rumors blog"

What Apple is doing is showcasing the fact that it is one of the first real uses of human interaction on a handheld widely understood piece of consumer electronics that is already relied upon heavily in people's daily lives.

In other words you can to some degree have a running interaction with the device. You are actually criticizing one of the more subdued parts of Siri.

To me the usefulness of Siri really hit home when I found I was able to say "set countdown timer for 38 minutes" - and it is done instantly.

I know it may be trivial to some, but not having to calculate exactly what time it will be 38 minutes from now and just have it DONE is incredibly useful. Having the iPhone tell you a joke...not so much.

Am i the only person who thinks people talking with Siri App as if it were a person, with emotion and feelings is a bit of a farce?

So I guess this means “The New iPhone” will be a no show at WWDC?

Your comment actually made a light bulb go off. It makes total sense that Apple would be highlighting their major piece of software rather than the hardware elements...after all we all know what's just around the corner - but also what's still on the shelves.
