I just don't get how its only the iPhone 6 64gb that has slower speeds! quite weird!

As Apple now offer 64gb but charge at last year 32gb price, they have to cut cost somewhere. It's all about the profits for Apple which is why you don't see 32gb as base model either.

From the looks of it 16gb/128gb are having faster speeds for iPhone 6 but those who purchased 64gb recently might also have fast speeds since Apple is reportedly switching to MLC for that particular model due to crashes/bootloop.

EDIT: If anyone who purchased iPhone 6 64gb on release date but with fast write speeds, then I guess it only affects a certain batch but please post your results from Passmark with no other apps running. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/performancetest-mobile/id494438360?mt=8

What should my speeds be? I have a launch day phone.

Based on the stats, your write speeds should be around 160 and read speed 330. As long as it's near that range +/- 30 it should be good but if it's below 80 for write speed, then yours is probably using the slower chip.

Please copy & paste and post your results from the stats above.

My wife and I both have iPhone 6 models/64 gb and both of our phones have not experienced any of these issues. The OS is a little buggy and we're both running 8.1.

Funny. I have the same phone, mine arrived Friday. How can our results be so different? I ran the test a dozen+ times today, and the results have been consistent.

I've only had one crash/reboot. That was using Safari on theverge.com, which gives me trouble on all iOS devices.

Using that logic why does plus have low speeds.

----------

My write speed is 60.2 and read 265.

I have iphone 6 64gb. No crashes at all and had phone since release. I don't think these numbers correlate with crashes nor speed of the phone. I think someone should test speed on the iPhone 64gb and iPhone 16 both iphone 6's

What I know is those iPhone 6 64gb which is purchased recently have write speeds of 150+ and read speed of 300+ while those purchased on launch day have write speeds below 80 unless someone can confirm otherwise. If no one is reporting then Apple might have started to use faster chips on the 64gb model if every new model is seeing similar fast speeds.

I think it may not be due to TLC flash that is causing crashes/boot loop or lower speeds but just a particular manufacturer chip that is causing those issues. Depends on which chip Apple used on your phone or when you purchased, your speeds might differ but it doesn't mean anything except slower speeds for some phones that you probably won't notice.

space grey ip6+ 64gb. day 1 purchase.

Storage Write 60.5 MByte/Sec

Storage Read 355 MByte/Sec

Default bits per cell is 2. which is MLC.

Guys,

As I think was already mentioned, Apple is using different NAND vendors to be able to cope high the high production and market demand, and probably they dont perform in the same way. So, if you are lucky, you can get a slightly faster FLASH NAND mounted in your iPhone6/6+.

Yes but what is the correlation between crashes. And if there isn't one then who cares about read speed if your phone won't act any different.

Apple Said to Be Stopping Use of TLC NAND Flash in iPhone 6 and 6 Plus After ...

Disk / Read: 343 / Write: 65.8
Memory / Read: 992 mb/sec / Write: 1037 mb/sec

Iphone 6/ 64gb running 8.1. Was preordered to release and received 9/23/14. No issues with crashes or reboots.

that doesn't tell us much. I don't think the chips effect how fast it opens a website or app. I think some people are overthinking this. We already know the chip has no correlation with reboots since many including me have the "TLC" and have no reboots!

True, but at least we know which device has TLC now.

The faster NAND in the benchmark we were using is TLC, the slower is MLC. I think that's because the benchmark uses sequential write with a small file.

So, according to results posted here:
  • All iPhone 6/6+ 128GB are TLC
  • iPhone 6/6+ 64GB are mostly MLC but some are TLC

After trying several benchmark and test apps on the App Store, I finally found one with detailed results!

It's iQuickMark: full results with sequential/random read/write.

Here are my results with an iPhone 6 128GB (so, presumably, TLC)

Random Read: 4070
Random Write: 4578
Sequential Read: 208
Sequential Write: 192

I have a launch day iPhone 6 Plus 64 GB on iOS 8.1.1.

Although my write speed is below 160 I have not had the crashing and boot loop issues. So I’m unsure as to if the read/write results from the Performance Test app are relevant to the crashing and boot loop issues.

Although my results are below what has been mentioned they should be, my 6 Plus runs perfect.

Results using the iQuickMark app.

Test results are way different than the earlier test I done with the other app.

Could you provide a link to the iPhone Doctor Plus, please as I can't find it on the Appstore.

Here's the results of my Geekbench test for my release day iPhone 6 Plus 64GB.

Hi there,
thanks for your geek bench , by any chance do you know what NAND type you have , i am not sure but it looks like some have TLC and some MLC,
also here is the link requested
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id565111904
it is on the US app store, maybe you are searching the UK one.
