Wait wait wait, but it was “selling out” in China! I have read this news article just today🙂

Don’t wanna sound toxic but they could have put a better battery inside and made a smaller size. Too gigantic for my hands, despite the nice weight
Better battery than what? It already gets better battery life than my 15 Pro when it was new

China is a major force in the luxury market, so it’s no surprise it sold out there. A phone is far less discreet than a luxury handbag, meaning there’s less social pressure for consumers to hold back on the purchase.

That seals the deal..

The only thing left to do now is a try a modern smaller iPhone

Doesn’t help that they didn’t market the thing at all. If I see any iPhone ads, it’s all Pro with that flashy new orange color.

Well, I have just been to the Apple Store. On their front glass doors one side had a massive “PRO” text and the other one “AIR”. In the Store itself, they had special shelves dedicated to each line, showing all the colours (for Pro, Air and Regular). What I am trying to say is that in a physical shop all three models were well presented, with more accent on Pro and Air, but not the regular 17.

Two things on this.

First, a securities firm "believes" this. I'm assuming it's not based on nothing, but still, this is not coming from Apple at all yet. But let's say it's correct...

...then second, we're talking about a 1m cut and 2m increase in a bucket of 80-100m units. This is nothing like what Samsung did by abandoning the line altogether. These are pretty typical supply chain / inventory adjustments. It's obviously not a "positive" for the Air, and not a surprise for the others, but it's not some sort of nail in the coffin either.

Interesting, I see. On paper it should last longer than 15 Pro. Do you often “stress test” the device with non-trivial or pro apps like for example games or video editing? I.e. exactly the things that can activate throttling.

I’ve heard various reports on the web but had not used it for enough time to understand battery life, but by the magsafe charging powerbank I assumed battery life is not ideal

Nope, Air already is filled up to the brim with its battery and even then people are returning them and going Pro as they did not have “enough” by the end of the day. A smaller size would mean a smaller still battery. I really like the feel of the regular 17, as it fits my hand perfectly and has everything I need.

That is exactly the purpose of the Air. Get half of the fold into the wild, also get the C1X modem out there in people's hands for usage/testing and feedback

The C1X is also in iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, no?

Edit: I was wrong, all of them share the N1 module, but the C1X modem is actually an Air exclusive indeed!

And the other shoe drops...

Just a question of if Apple can pivot fast enough to cancel the iPhone Air 2 or if it still releases (kind of like how the 13 mini coming out after the product line had been pre-canceled months earlier).
