That’s right, folks, the tiny startup that could, Apple, just discovered the lower demand. They were literally shipping iPhone Airs as fast as they could when out of nowhere, demand just dropped. Believe you me, nobody is more surprised than Apple! But, not to worry, because the greatest pipeline ever is just around the corner!

I personally don’t mind the battery life but one camera ain’t it sis! For $1k too! Sad. Sooo unsexy too! Mini, Plus, Air. Flop after flop! Jk it’s not a flop once you realize it’s to make the 799 base to 1099 pro jump less severe.

Ya know, you find something you like and IMMEDIATELY they start to cancel it.

Then the other herds get wind and run away.

No one wanted this, no one asked for this
I didn't want it, you didn't want it but this is a flat out false statement. I personally saw people who wanted this. Maybe not a lot, but certainly more than "no one".

Unless the definition of "no one" is now changing to "not many" like how "literally" now means what "figuratively" used to mean.

Also, the thickness they list is somewhat misleading. They should list the main body thickness as well as max thickness at the cameras. Which overall then is 11.40 mm for the base 17 and 11.32 mm for the Air. Which is just the thickness of 1-2 human hairs.

Told you its a failed product. Glad Macrumors dedicated an article. Add this to the list of cancelled products like the Apple Car, Vision Pro and Homepods.

Wonder what devices will be made out the spare parts they have from the Air. Maybe the smarthub and let that fail too.

Apple Fold will also be a failed product, for now.

Sad to see the low demand, but expected.

I totally love my Air though and I do hope Apple continues it in future iterations. At this point, I don’t want to go back to the old form factor of the Pro Maxes. The Air was like tailor made for me, but sounds like I should baby it in case I have to hold onto it for as long as the mini users are holding out 😆

Calling this a bomb is a bit of an overstatement. It's ~ 10% reduction in production and could just as easily be described as a demand forecasting adjustment.

Not that I am defending the Air. I don't see the use case (for customers -- for Apple perhaps it's early experience mass manufacturing a thin phone in prep for a future foldable). But I am apparently not a representative customer as I have no interest in the /Pro/Max/whatever either.

The iPhone Air truly is a beautiful piece of engineering and it feels so fresh.. but it has too many compromises, even for the casual user. I think it could work if they add a second lens and maybe increase the size of the phone to accommodate a bigger battery while maintaining the thinness.
The Air is a beautiful device, just priced so high relative to its camera and battery competence that sales are limited. I do not think that the iPhone Air needed any engineering changes. Except that v2 of any design can improve of course.

You're the first person in this thread to call it a bomb.

Still rocking a 15 Pro Max here, but this is interesting - Of all the 2026 iPhones, the Air is the only one I'm interested in.

I suppose what's stopping me is the camera system. If they could get the Pro cameras into the Air, then I'd be all over that.
Same thing I said about the mini. Ended up getting it and loving it anyway. But I did miss the telephoto lens quite a bit.

For some reason, Apple wants to make everything except a smaller or thinner Pro phone. And then they're surprised Pikachu every year when their new device full of compromises underperforms.

Nobody wants a compromise device with lesser hardware that costs more than a base model iPhone. Smaller or thinner is fine. But most people want the Pro cameras and the ProMotion display. That's what sales have reflected for over 4 years now. Find a way to fit that hardware into a smaller or thinner device, and it'll sell like hotcakes.

As much I had issue with the width, I hope Apple keeps this option. Such a nice design to look at but personally I found it not so practical to hold and use it on day to day basis.

This is entirely predictable.

Apple is throwing mud against the wall trying to find what "4th annual" iPhone will sell in enough volume to be worth it for Apple to keep making it. Not the mini, not the Plus, and maybe not the Air... I like that they keep trying though. I vote mini Pro in 2 years. :)
