It is hilarious. All these speculations from ONE investment firm. First of all, Apple didn't SAY anything. They don't announce sales numbers anymore. Secondly, these are PROJECTIONS. It is what they THINK will happen not what WILL happen. It would be useful to know how they came up with these projections, but they didn't say. Because Apple doesn't release sales numbers, most analysts follow the supply chain. No mention about it here.
There little bs story to drop the stock didn’t work. The real news is the iPhone Air is selling out in China sending the stock to a 52 week high today. Social media defeated. 😂😂😂

Do you really believe that the Chinese people would pine for an iPhone when they have access to much better homegrown technology? Have a look at HyperOS 3.0, ColorOS 15, OxygenOS 15, OriginOS and so on...
Surprisingly yes. There's been a LOT of reliability issues with Huawei and Xiaomi phones reported lately. No wonder as soon as the iPhone 17 models arrived they sold out instantly in China.

Apple hasn't even promoted the Air. They've promoted the crap out of the Pro and Pro Max, though.
I hung out with a friend who asked me and my wife if we’re getting the new iPhone 17 pro. My wife showed her 17 pro and I showed him my Air. He was so confused, asking what the heck is an Air? Is it newer or older than the 17?

I’ve had this happen multiple times already, forgetting not everyone reads tech enthusiast websites.

I would get a mini instead. You know, a phone for people who actually use phone and don't live in it.
Alas, that market is rapidly dying. Reason: the aging Boomer and Generation X generations are now getting increasingly poor eyesight, and as such welcome the 6.1" and larger screen sizes of current iPhones. I mean, on the Android side the lower-cost Samsung Galaxy A16/A36/A56 have 6.7" displays and even the Google Pixel 9a has a 6.3" display.

Do you think Apple shouldn't go for lighter, thinner, better ergonomics, sexier? Are we doomed to continually bloated phones until the next thing that replaces them? I sure hope not. That wouldn't be innovative for the industry.
When designing a product there is a scale having form and function on opposite sides. Apple would side with form for the longest time which would cause functional problems. There's nothing wrong with making a product lighter or thinner as long as you're not compromising the function of the product.

I personally don't care if my Apple product is "sexy". They're tools to me, a means to an end.

TLDR:
I had a thin Intel MBP where the cooling fan would ramp up while doing screen recordings. It went so loud that you could hear it in my external microphone. I had to put my MBP on the floor while recording to try to mitigate the noise. When the M series MBPs came out they had a thicker chassis despite the M series chips running more efficiently and cooler. Right now I can run a game at 100 fps on my M4 MBP with an external ultra wide screen and the fan runs quietly. This is a step in the right direction.

Next time you go to a nice restaurant to have a nice meal, think of what you could have bought for the money spent at that restaurant somewhere at a different lower tier restaurant or fast food restaurant. It's the same thing. It's not always about what you can get but rather what you want to have. Air owners are choosing to go with a design/feel this year. Not everyone needs three focal lengths or two speakers. You be happy with Pro/Pro-Max and let Air owners be happy with theirs. Even if Apple decides to discontinue the phone, it won't stop Air owners from enjoying the phone for many years.
I mean if you want to spend more money while getting less, it is your money so by all means have at it. My comment was simply why it is not selling well. Never said you cannot enjoy the phone (same with foldables). It was going to be a tough sell with how it was priced and what you get for the price. This clearly shows that.

I think the iPhone Air is a gorgeous phone, but let's be honest. A phone is only as thin as its camera bump, so what have we really gained? Let's focus instead on getting rid of the bezels and fixing Apple Intelligence. Maybe a significant bump in optical zoom or a screen on the back of the phone that would allow you to take a selfie with the main camera system. Get rid of the dynamic island and give behind the screen fingerprint reader and camera. Longer battery life. Hell, make the iPhone Pro a tiny bit thicker if you need to. The phones are thin enough already. I think Tim Cook has done a great job making Apple the most valuable company on earth, but we need to dig up Steve Jobs and make Apple a visionay company again -- the kind of company that gives us what we NEED before we even know we need it.

"Less" is subjective. If you don't use the feature that Air does not have then it is not less. You are right that it will be a tough sell because majority out there want more than they ever need.

I hear you. I had the 2016 MacBook Escape, which despite its weak processor sounded like a jet engine taking off. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Frankly, the pendulum swung from the form-heavy Ive (late Intel) era to the function-led current utilitarian era. The iPhone Air is an attempt to correct that imbalance. There's room for Pro, the Air, the regular iPhone and a foldable should that happen.

Been running a pro max and an air side by side for a couple weeks, air is FAR nicer for daily use but the camera downfalls kill it in comparison to the pro max. This phone would have been the best designed iPhone in years if it wasn’t for the camera/design trade off… I have zero battery issues with the air and I am at 35% after a full days normal use, 45% left in the pro max and they both came off the charger at 0645 this morning; it’s 2125 now…

It might. Just as the first ever MacBook Air was far from perfection, but look at what it has become today!
That’s an understatement. I had the first version and it couldn’t play YouTube videos or handle a Skype call without overheating and freezing. It was a gorgeous but terrible product. The iPhone Air is far more capable in comparison. It’s super fast, super powerful, and never gets warm in the hand since the chips are in the camera plateau.

Also, the thickness they list is somewhat misleading. They should list the main body thickness as well as max thickness at the cameras. Which overall then is 11.40 mm for the base 17 and 11.32 mm for the Air. Which is just the thickness of 1-2 human hairs.

Go hold one in your hand and you’ll see it’s not misleading whatsoever. You never hold the camera plateau. The weight distribution is perfect.

But you'd likely post it as evidence of good sales if they said Apple increased production of the Air.

Bingo!

If this exact type of report says something great for Apple, it’s touted as amazing data held up forever as indicative of how great things are going…

When the situation is reversed, the report is dismissed and discredited.

Never listen to investment bs. All their news is yesterday’s or flat out lies.

Not true, not even close.

One simple Google search reveals the following:

• Overall trend: The majority of iPhone users are younger. Combined, the 16-34 age range makes up a large percentage of users, with one source indicating 78% of users are under 35, as reported by BankMyCell.

• Teens: A 2024 Piper Sandler survey found that 87% of US teens own an iPhone, and 88% expect it to be their next phone.

• Older demographics: As age increases, the percentage of iPhone users decreases. One source reports that 10% of users are 45 and older, while another indicates 16% are 45-54, and 21% are
55+.

Funny that when you hobble a phone it doesn't sell well. Now bring back the Mini and don't treat it like a second class citizen for once.

Looks like people don't like the option of not having a physical SIM card slot. It's why I returned mine...

Yeah I think this is really the thing here. It's not priced competitively when any real "Pro" user is going to get the Pro. Anyone who doesn't get the pro model will just get the regular 17, especially now that it offers 120hz. There aren't many real advantages over the Air vs the 17 other than the chip. Most people would rather save the $200, have a better camera, better battery and pack on a little extra weight. Air is truly a niche device.
That is my thinking too. People keep saying the Air is a stepping stone to a foldable iPhone from Apple, but what is to say that will be popular either? It'll be closer to £2k/$2k much like the foldables from Samsung and are they even hugely popular? I think the Air and a foldable is always going to be niche.

"Less" is subjective. If you don't use the feature that Air does not have then it is not less. You are right that it will be a tough sell because majority out there want more than they ever need.
Or people don't want to pay more for a lesser spec'd phone. But spin it however you want. The numbers don't lie (nor does the cut in production apple made).
