If Apple can support production of an AppleTV puck I don’t see why they can’t support producing a wider range of phone form factors like with iPad.

There should be a mini, air, regular, and pros all the time. Is 5 really models that big of a challenge for the worlds top 3 richest and certainly most adept at manufacturing companies?
The last thing Apple needs is more SKUs, there are too many as it is.

My wife just got a new iPhone 17 pro in silver to replace her dying iPhone 13 Pro, it certainly looks better in person and actually is growing on me.
Super thick, soft looking edges of aluminum. Looks cheap compared to titanium. It does not feel nearly as premium as the 16 Pro Max.

Wait wait wait, but it was “selling out” in China! I have read this news article just today🙂

Don’t wanna sound toxic but they could have put a better battery inside and made a smaller size. Too gigantic for my hands, despite the nice weight
It would have sold even fewer units. Apple is not promoting this phone and in many stores I’ve heard reports of employees pushing customers interested in the Air, to pay a bit more and get the iPhone pro instead or to get the base model with 512 storage.

Yes, Apple is cutting the Air's production early this year, but in years past they have cut the production of the base iPhone early or the Plus early. This is not something never before seen. It happens every year, just with a different model.

When the lineup stays static, Apple has a pretty solid idea of what these initial production runs should be per model. When they throw in a new model (Mini, Plus, Air) they have to do a bit of prognostication and it is not surprising they often guess too high for this new model and so they need to reduce it early once they have a clearer idea of initial sales.

In early 2026, Apple will announce cuts to the production run of the other iPhone models just as they do every year. And the headlines will again hyperventilate how this is some sign that the iPhone 17 is a flop just as they did when this happened to the iPhone 16. And iPhone 15. And iPhone 14. And...

Apple's heaviest production run is prior to release to meet the initial demand and then they reduce it to meet the (lower) sustained sales volume over the rest of the year until they ramp up again for the next model in the Summer.

This has been the way for like a decade. Why the media keep acting like it is unique every year is beyond me.
headlines. pure and simple.

Can't imagine why a device with less battery life, a worse camera system, and throttled performance for $200 more than a really solid standard iPhone—or put another way—only $100 less than a far superior iPhone Pro would have poor sales when many economies are slipping into recession.

This thing is just an effort to mass market parts and subsidize R&D research for the iPhone Fold.

When I see articles like this I just see someone who wants lower priced shares. These guys don’t know jack.
You're an Air owner and those customers are typically very defensive of their phones.

I'm betting you'd like this story if it said they increased production, then all of the sudden it'd be "told you haters, it is a great phone and selling well!"

You can't only belittle a source when it isn't news you personally like.

I'm hardly surprised. For more or less the same price (give or take 100 bucks) you get a vastly inferior device with a single theoretical advantage:slightly reduced size. And a reduction that does not matter much, as it is in thickness, not in screen size. The phone will take essentially as much space in your pocket. And yes, it is lighter. But I have never heard anyone complaining about how difficult is to carry their phone around cause it is too heavy. Most people who bought this one did it to have the latest gadget. The rest, will buy the useful gadget.

Agreed! And even the lightness of the phone is exaggerated. Air customers act like it is a feather compared to any other Apple phone when in reality it is only 2 grams lighter than the 16e. Hardly that noticeable in everyday use.

Yeah I think this is really the thing here. It's not priced competitively when any real "Pro" user is going to get the Pro. Anyone who doesn't get the pro model will just get the regular 17, especially now that it offers 120hz. There aren't many real advantages over the Air vs the 17 other than the chip. Most people would rather save the $200, have a better camera, better battery and pack on a little extra weight. Air is truly a niche device.
But who cares about the weight? It is a phone, not a car. If you carry around your computer all day, a Macbook Air makes total sense. That is a significant difference. But a phone? Seriously you have trouble carrying 50 extra grams around?

I smell a share downer when I see one and the reason has nothing to do with how I feel about the phone. Try again. This is how the grey area of online media market manipulation works.

Yeah exactly. Most people don't care. Very few do care about weight which is why it sells poorly. Personally, I found the 5.8 form factor to be perfect. I really which they would reuse the 11 Pro body and I would be happy. I tried the 13 pro but genuinely with the square edges it just wasn't comfortable to hold for long periods. So here I am with a 13 mini..

Value of the company is at record highs while he's been CEO which is his #1 job so I'd say he's a good CEO.

incorrect , if profit is all that matters you could say Satya Nadella is a good CEO but what made Apple different and was the genius of Steve Job's hardware design and ;"just works" software.

Why do you think people pay for an iPhone over a cheaper Android? its not the specs, its iOS.

It is hilarious. All these speculations from ONE investment firm. First of all, Apple didn't SAY anything. They don't announce sales numbers anymore. Secondly, these are PROJECTIONS. It is what they THINK will happen not what WILL happen. It would be useful to know how they came up with these projections, but they didn't say. Because Apple doesn't release sales numbers, most analysts follow the supply chain. No mention about it here.
