But what spec updates and features? If it's just the true tone and a faster processor I can't see many people upgrading from their current 12.9" iPad Pro. I'm hoping there is something else. Or maybe it will all be software feature based in iOS 11.
Perhaps 3d touch, dual cam(don' t need it), new display with truetone but also with a higher refresh rate for video(was a rumor about 6 months ago), and perhaps even a higher res display at 326dpi , to make all new ipads 326 dpi, and since ipad pro 10.5 will have the same res as the current 12.9. Perhaps 3415x2560 res?
But an ios pro or pados with more macos features would be the most exiting.

WOW. This is an incredibly pleasant surprise to start my Monday morning. I'm in the market for two iOS devices: an updated mini (particularly hoped for 4 speakers) and an updated SE (particularly hoped for more storage). Didn't really think I'd get the mini, and REALLY didn't think I'd get the SE, at least not soon. REALLY hoping this rumor is true. So glad I decided to hold onto my mini 3 and 5s a little longer.

Looking forward to seeing these alleged new screen sizes BUT I'll be disappointed if we don't also see new iMacs. I'd love to see a new Mac mini but would never pin any hopes on it. That would just be a bonus.

I bought my low end 21" iMac in 2012 thinking it was a bridge to the new Mac Pro. Of course Mac Pro turned out to be a bust and kept hoping Apple would beef up the GPU on the 21" but seems they are intent on keeping it a step below the 27". So I'm resigned to get a 27".

OTOH Apple will really have to have done something that sets the new iPads clearly apart from the current line for me to upgrade. I use to be a serially upgrader but it's gotten to the point I really can't tell the difference between the one I sold and the one i bought.

I admire your faith in average customers ability to not get confused, but there's also the other side of the medal - logistics on Apple's side (and the side of any reseller having to deal with all the options: "Oh, I'm sorry, but the iPad mini in Gold with LTE and 64GB option is out of stock currently. Instead I can offer you an iPad mini in jet black with WLan and facial recognition. Alternatively an iPad Pro with 128GB, LTE and bundled with the Apple Pencil. Special deal: Costs only 300 more ..." - customers will love that frustrating feeling, won't they?).

If somone can order a Mcdonalds, they can order an iPad.

If all the sizes are iPad Pros then why not just call them iPads and be done with it? Adding more storage to the iPhone SE isn't enough. They really need to update the whole phone (or really drop the price for old tech) for me to buy it.

Terrific news for the SE.
It's still the best iPhone Apple have ever made, and I remember some on here were hoping for a 128gb model.

Looking forward to seeing what they do with the iPads too.. it's been a while since an iPad event, and a small scattering of rumours on here.. but we know they need to do sonething cool to push sales again..

I would have bought the 128GB when it was released, but now it's too late for me. I bought the 64GB and see that I don't really need the 128GB. This might make a difference to new SE buyers though.

What would make a difference to me is upgrading the front half of the phone to the same resolution as the 7, and a better FaceTime camera. If they did that, I might trade mine in.

Otherwise, I don't see upgrading the SE I have for at least another year, and then only to whatever Apple offers new in the 4" size category (and yes an 4.7" OLED with no bezels would do the trick). Depending on what Apple offers in the next couple of generations, I can see keeping the SE for 4 years. It's got a 4 year warranty thanks to AC and my credit card, and I don't really need more. Given that Apple is building a factory to make it in India, I can see it going unchanged and supported for at least three more years considering it's basically the same as the 6s, and likely longer since Apple was still supporting the 4s in India right up through the 6s. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't update it with the "7s" tech next year when the 6s falls off the offerings.

Standard MR these days. No matter what, people will moan.

That's a side effect of not going beyond carefully measured ipod iterations, promises unmet, and proprietary accessories. People see what is happening and don't like it anymore. Apl is an expense like any other and many groan about both cost and "added features"

When was last really great "try something new and interesting" release of iPod stuff... the iPad? in 2009? That's 8 years ago. Some small subset continue to buy, so Apl has no need to change course , just pick a new color and add some feature...rinse repeat. As long as people continue to buy, why would they change?

Its on Apl to eliminate the "groans, yawns and eye rolls" are they not hanging their hat on new cutting-edge consumer Hardware? Well where is it Apl?

Not only that but what about the ridiculous and convoluted naming schemes? " iPad Pro 12.9 2 2017" and so on.

I gotta admit, I was among the crowd who read this news and said, "Yeah.... great.... Wake me when you get your act together offering new Macs that are actually desirable upgrades."

But it's obvious there really ARE a lot of people out there looking forward to these updates too. I think the iPad tended to be a device people held onto for a pretty long time before upgrading, in many cases. People at my office are still using the iPad 3's we issued them when they were new hires, for example. Yeah, they can't run iOS 10 and they're pretty slow by current standards - but they still check corporate Outlook mail, and keep the calendar appointments and contact lists synced as well as ever. We're running short on good, working ones now though, as some of the batteries stop holding a charge or screens get damaged and the repair cost isn't worth it for a device that old.

I know I have very little desire to upgrade my 9.7" iPad Pro right now, but I'm probably not really the target audience here.

Unfortunately Apple themselves can't simply order any amount of product variations from their suppliers as simple as ordering a Burger at some fast food chain ...

Also waiting for new iMac. Waiting, waiting, waiting...

I like that they're giving the SE a refresh. It suggests they're not abandoning that screen size any time soon, which is good news for those of us with small hands.

I don't consider a new color and an option for more memory to be a "refresh".

A refresh involves improved internals, such as processor and camera (as others mentioned). That is something I'd like - but I can buy the this rumored SE right now, just not in red and just not with 128MB.

I wonder if they will be USB type c or lighting.

I don't see them moving away from Lightning for iOS, but I'd love to be surprised :) (for the iPad at least). I would actually be happy with 2 lightning ports, maybe one on the side, or even one in place of the headphone jack (Sometimes it would be nice to have video out as well as connect another Lightning or USB device).

I'm pretty surprised by people not knowing about the (Red) product line in the comments here. Would expect a place like MR to have a better grasp on it than the general masses, so that isn't a good look for Apples PR for it.
I was just about to say that. How are so many unfamiliar with a practice apple has been involved in for a very long time. Product red has been a staple of most of their lines.

Existing iPad hardware is fine, imo. As many have mentioned, improving the productivity of iOS on iPad is what would make a real difference.
