4 iPad Pro models? I find that really hard to believe.

So your looking to buy an iPad? Which one? iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 7.9", iPad Pro 9.7" (2016), iPad Pro 9.7" (2017), iPad Pro 10.5", iPad Pro 12.9" (2015), iPad Pro 12.9" (2017)?

The return of the 90's Apple is in full force.

Apple is now like all the Chinese phone companies - Random new color. All we need now is an Anime themed version.
I'm pretty surprised by people not knowing about the (Red) product line in the comments here. Would expect a place like MR to have a better grasp on it than the general masses, so that isn't a good look for Apples PR for it.

Unless Apple is changing the design of iPhone se, it is an unnecessary upgrade.

And apple better add 3D Touch to the new iPad Pro.

Every time I hear iPad combined with "Pro", I get a gag reflex.

There is nothing that is Pro about those iPads, except the price. I'd really like to upgrade from my iPad Air, but I surely won't pay 800€ for a media-consumption device.

LOL thread is turning into a field day, a "Have it your way" day for complainers!

Too many options, not enough options, wrong color, wrong design, not big enough, wrong product line to focus on, wrong product line to have ignored for too long, "about time!" or "huh? who needs it?" I may have left a few later offerings out while I was typing the list...

Sounds to me more like Apple will have hit another one out of the park in March. I need a new iPad but I think the guy who's plowed my driveway 12 times and counting during this snowy winter actually expects be paid. Well I'm going to devote half an hour now to trying to juggle some other stuff around in my budget. I'm up for watching that March keynote anyway. :D

Would be nice to hear some Mac related news, but I suppose we'll hear more during WWDC.

Options are good, more chance of people getting what they want.
It's always a question of how many. Jack of all trades, master of none. Apple already has a quality problem due to its crammed product portfolio (that is, crammed for the quality Apple that once ignited Apple's rise to becoming the most valuable company around).

Getting yet another iPad size (with various storage and colour options) would clutter the product portfolio even more. This would not only be a logistics nightmare, but also confusing Joe average consumer, who is not a Macrumors regular (but accounting for the biggest share of Apple's sales by far). Apple is more and more walking on thin ice

Seriously! I can't believe he's complaining about having too many options.
You may want to read up on the main reasons of Apple nearly folding before Steve came back in (and what he did to save the company). Throw in a little economics 101 and you understand why it is NOT a good idea of having too many options! At best we could argue on whether Apple has already crossed the line between "sufficient" and "too many".

Standard MR these days. No matter what, people will moan.

Were you around in the 90's? This is nothing like that. Performa 575, 580? Centris 650? Quadra 600, 800, 840/AV, 660/AV? Sometimes meaningful, sometimes meaningless "product numbers"?

You're suggesting Apple shouldn't improve the screen to bezel ratio because it would *gasp* result in a new model? I don't get it. Haven't they always sold their previous year's designs while introducing new ones?

I would say its even simpler. The choice right now is:

Choose a new iPad
--- Choose size and capacity (all the pro's)
Choose a budget old iPad
--- Choose a size and capacity (pick any previous made iPad)

This will be especially true if they make a 7.9 ipad pro with pen support.

I save myself the task of researching the individual numbers, but each additional choice comes into the equation as multiplier!

Looking forwards to 3+ gb ram across the line and noticeable drop in year old 9.7 pro performance that many will attribute to "just being too old"

I save myself the task of researching the individual numbers, but each additional choice comes into the equation as multiplier!

That is true in terms of individual models, but in reality all it means to customers is one extra question.

It's hard not to feel like the thrill is gone. If all they do is make the current model (RED), it's going to be *YAWN*.

They need more innovation, more religious fervor, like in the 'good old days'... Has Apple become more 'corporate'? In those 'good old days', Apple encouraged the religious product evangelical fervor. Now it just seems to be 'just another cell phone company'. The romance is rather stale. How does a company build that mystique back into their persona? Apple needs that mojo again.

I'd LOVE if the iPad took on the design cues from the iPhone 6/7. Give me those rounded corners!

Back then it wasn't like this overnight. Instead it was creeping in slowly. And this is exactly what the people questioning the amount of options are afraid of (myself included).

You're suggesting Apple shouldn't improve the screen to bezel ratio because it would *gasp* result in a new model? I don't get it. Haven't they always sold their previous year's designs while introducing new ones?
Yes, they probably have. And noone is questioning (real) improvements. The question is whether you _replace_ an existing model (which may be continued to be offered in certain markets) or whether you _add_ yet another model.

If you have two models, you can continue to produce one for certain markets when you introduce something new, without big problems. But if you have 4, 6, 10 models, how many of those do you want to continue to produce for those certain markets alongside with the new ones? Not to mention the testing that has to be done on each and every SKU resulting from the option creep. There's a reason that Apple's QC has been questioned more often recently.

Interesting, the whole array of updates will be something to look forward to even if I am not planning to get anything at this point.
