Let's not forget that Apple has a physical presence through its retail stores around the world, not just the United States.

Apple is clearly in bed with China to rent their slaves since they didn't set up showings of The Interview in all of their retails stores, not wanting to offend them. They don't care about our rights.

----------

Exactly. This is what Millenials and the younger generation in general have no clue about. It's the "everyone gets a trophy and no hurt feelings" coddled generation. (smh)

Quality or not, this still does not explain why Apple has to change protocol to show this film.

This statement is complete hyperbole supported only by conjecture.

I guess MR don't get it at all. Apple is no political party and shouldn't be dictating what their customers should or shouldn't be spending their money on. Shame on Apple!

I'm glad you believe political parties should use money to sway our beliefs. :p

----------

Apple is dictating by not allow their customers have the choice to view/purchase the interview when others are allowing it. Has Google blown up yet after allowing their customers to watch the movie? Shame on Apple!

You can watch the movie on other services. I'm not mad at Amazon because they didn't fight to also stream Orange is the New Black. Different services can offer different products.

It's also called sarcasm.

I will say this, I have my own opinions of the movie....and that's because I DID SEE IT. If you have not seen it you are in no position to call it crap or a joke.

Without being vulgar here - I don't have to eat s##t to know it will taste like s##t.

However, point well taken on discussing merits of the movie without seeing the movie. Things get tricky when discussion goes around terms like "good" and "bad" when it is a subjective call. I admit that I am not a fan of Seth R. At times, I find him just plain annoying to watch on the screen and that might influence my desire to see this movie. This doesn't make him a bad actor but simply one that is not to my liking.

Chances are, if this movie ever makes it to my streaming services and I have company over that wants to see it, I'll be happy to light up my screen with Seth R., a questionable topic and try to enjoy it.

I didn't think that anyone ever read, much less responded to, posts on the 18th page of a marathon Macrumors thread. I'm feeling the love.

Apple should've hosted the movie. It makes them look like they are too controlling. It feeds the narrative that people who hate Apple already have.

Not sure if it's been posted yet but it's on Google play store.

I'm watching it tonight

The people that already hate Apple, don't need any real reason to hate them. If Apple HAD hosted it, then they would have hated on Apple for that as well.

Yeah but the people who don't hate Apple will use this as proof that Apple is too controlling. However, Sony probably should've just released it to the iTunes store like any other release. There would've been a few people who bought it for home watching anyway.

Maybe because as a company they are becoming more and more of what consumers despise.

Google Play, You Tube, Xbox, Theaters, etc, all offered it .... but no iTunes.

Lame ass'd Apple .... again. :(

It is a dumb movie anyway. who cares? And before you say don't I know what I am talking about because I haven't seen... the trailer was dumb.... I have limited cash to spend and the summary sounded like something I shouldn't waste my money or my time on......

Apple is under no obligation whatsoever to release every single movie on iTunes. In fact, has there been no controversy around this movie, then no one would have even noticed if iTunes had the movie or not.
Also, it's not like it's a triumph for 'Murica that this movie was released by Sony at all. They chose to announce that it wouldn't be released, and then after sufficient hype had built up around the film, did they try to release it. Why should Apple play into that kind of hype. Plus, it's not like iTunes was the only place to get it. Apple customers can go anywhere they want and rent or buy it, just not to iTunes.

What were you expecting? Grammy award material? If so you were easily fooled. I actually like this type of comedy but then again I'm not sensitive. It's a fictional comedy made to go over the top.
Just don't invite your gay or North Korean friends over to watch it. But $6 to rent is a major win even if you did not like it. I'm watching it again right now.

And are you inviting your intimate German friend with a little moustache? You International Relations genious?

The idea of a movie which depicts the killing of a current president of some other country by U.S. agents is disgusting and barbarian.

And it is. We western nations pushed already enough terrorism and genocide since 2003. It's time to stop. Besides, let's see if those Sony sponsored "heroes" would have feared to play in a similar comedy about killing Mohammed,

The more I've thought about this, the less sympathy I have for Sony and the people involved with this movie. The film has nothing to do with actually alleviating the plight of millions of North Koreans.

I don't think anybody ever said that was the purpose of this movie.

Only in bizarro-world (Hollywood) is an assassination funny.

Oh, I think plenty of people around the USA joked about ways to kill Bin Laden. Assassination is just another topic for comedy / stress relief.

But yeah, it's not an unusual comedy movie plot line.

Ever seen Zoolander?
South Park's movie about Saddam Hussein?
Hot Shots and dropping a bomb on Saddam?
Naked Gun and Queen Elizabeth?

In WW-II there were tons of cartoons about killing the various Axis dictators. Even good old Daffy Duck hit Hitler over the head with a mallet.

As for North Korea in particular, you're talking about tin pot dictators who deserve every kind of joke possible. They live well while their people eat acorns and dirt. Literally.

(Disclosure: I was a Sergeant who often ran field ops around the Korean DMZ.)

Yes and you tough guys would be such heroes making jokes about some Islamic leader or prophet? Lunch of kids playing heroes.

I'm sure you meant to make some kind of point, but I don't see one.

Everyone is fodder for comedy. Some just take it better than others.

In fact, I'd say that a leader's reaction to a joke is usually inversely related to how free their people are. The more the leader is a dictator, they less humor they have about jokes about themselves.

But they were not asking or demanding Sony for more money. Apple wanted nothing to do with the movie. That's why it makes no sense for you calling them greedy.

Just like Apple bumps up the price of Robin Williams movies after he dies, when others allow free views?

Apple doesn't want to offend China, b/c Apple is mostly owned by chinese interests now.

The conjecture in this post is delicious. Apple doesn't want to hurt China. Apple should have streamed the movie. Apple is contributing to terrorism by not streaming it. Apple denied streaming the movie for publicity. Black people were killed for the color of their skin, why aren't we discussing that. You can't judge a movie by it's cover. A poop reference about the movie. Tim Cook, CEO of the year, always playing it safe.

I enjoyed reading all of the stupid comments from both sides. You people are so out of touch with reality.

This thread has been invaluable... ...In terms of revealing how just many foil-hat-wearing drooling idiots frequent this site, and who they are.

Yep, exactly what I'm saying.

I'm sure you meant to make some kind of point, but I don't see one.

It was either pretty subtly pointing out that The Naked Gun featured the leader of the Iranian revolution (and lots of others guys the US didn't/doesn't like) or he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Nice to see the largest corporation in the US pander to North Korea. Maybe Apple's afraid that Kim Jong Un will put the kibosh on iPhones sales in the country.

Apple usually makes the right decisions, in most instances, but not here.

Those supporting Apple here, can you just explain why they wouldn't agree to stream the movie? There really is only one reason, isn't there? I don't get it. I'm one of the biggest Apple supporters around, including being a shareholder, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with every decision they make. That just seems irrational to me.

Oh, how nice that you already know what Apple does or does not want to do. Inside info?
