IMO, this whole "North Korean hacking" of Sony is one of the most brilliant third party promotions of a suck movie to get back investment capital.

If it ever comes down that Sony was an Accessory Before or After the Fact of this alleged hack, some say that this could be a Treason or International Fraud crime. Inquiring minds want to know.

Apple dodging this hot potato is a good move. At least they don't stream Barbarella.

I seriously doubt that a publicity stunt on this level would be legal. Once you start getting the FEDs involved you are going to have a problem if it turns out to be BS.

Oh good, I am very glad of that. Someone with some common sense in this mess.

Can't believe the utter arrogance of Sony and the writer of this ridiculous film.... Hey let's make an American comedy where we kill the most repressive, violent, threatening, secretive dictatorship alive that hates the west and especially America, and he wants nukes! I'm sure they'll find it funny..

What's next? An American comedy film killing the prophet Muhammed?

Yeah, only in America.

Willful ignorance isn't a good look.

Why would Apple even get involved in something as controversial as this
And for those that think that this is a Hollywood publicity stunt.I doubt it as the FBI etc is involved
Wonder why Sony didn't go to Amazon?

Apple is much larger.

----------

Apple leadership is disgraceful. The idea that an American company would become a willing accessory to censorship of a movie in response to terrorist threats once again shows us the hypocrisy of limousine liberals.

And LOL at the idea that they did this because the movie is bad.... as if iTunes isn't full of movies that are total dogs. Marriage equality is not the only freedom you should stand for, Mr. Cook.

Or maybe the lawyers told him not to get involved in this BS.

Apple could be sued by its shareholders if it got involved and all hell broke loose. Tim may be in charge but he still has to be accountable.

If this is true I and going back to windows and switching to android. I've just about had it with apple telling what I can and cannot do - LET THE MARKET DECIDE

It's interesting that this article is posted at this hour of the night. To me anyways.

The whole thing reeks of a publicity stunt. There are plenty of reasons why it wasn't and couldn't have been the DPRK hacking Sony.

Just Hollywood doing what they do best..propaganda and marketing/hype..

Sure, they leak all the employees SS numbers, all that personal information just to hype a movie. I don't think so. Anyone who thinks Sony did this is not very smart.

A hacked sony email released today reveals this has all been a publicity stunt for what is effectively a really poorly made and scripted movie. The leaked email from sony shows how they conspired to drum up publicity to atleast make some money back. Outside theatres interviews find 99.9% of people say "I wouldn't have come if they hadn't pulled it. Im only here because I can't think for myself... it must be a great film. When the movie hits the rental stores it breaks box office records. Twitter is later filled with hashtags #thatmoviesucked #whydidIbother #nowondertheypulledit #feelsuchanidiot #itwasjustapublictystunt

Where is said 'hacked email released today'?

With all the bad this brought to Sony this opened so many doors for another company to step up and look likes hero. 1 streaming service or 1 major movie chain supporting this would profit a ton.

Keep digging Sony, keep digging...

TMZ might want to show it.

The film is radioactive. I don't think many would want to touch it. It's sad that the hack happened, and I don't believe that NK had much, if anything to do with it. Still, it showed Sony Entertainment to be a group of high school twits doing pretty much whatever they want, without much accountability.

I loved the leaks about the Adam Sandler movies. After 'Just Go With It', there hasn't been one that I'd want to suffer through. All of the other leaks are priceless... Including the MPAA strong armed ones.

My money is on it being an 'Inside Job', which ironically was a Sony Classics picture.

Apple is a buch of Pathetic, spineless, yellow bellied, cowards, For being so terrified of Notth Korea.

Apple is trying to make its mark with China, whom has North Korea's back. It would have been an awful business move. There's no reason for the Apple hate.

Pathetic and cowardly, imo.

Anyway - I'll pay for this movie to the first online retailer that will make it available to me. I don't expect it to be a great movie (just your average Rogen "comedy"), but I will watch it EXACTLY because one batsh**t crazy and murderous dictator is telling me I'm not allowed. :)

Two things:
1 - Getting hacked has been very bad for Sony. A lot of confidential information was released. I doubt the increased interest in this movie will even come close to offsetting the damage from leaking so much information.

2 - Hacking Sony is child's play. They get hacked more than once a year. People don't normally notice because hackers normally just focus on disrupting the PlayStation Network. DPRK may be poor as far as a country goes, but they're still a country, meaning they can afford to hire a few out of country hackers to bring down Sony, if necessary.

I just hope Sony's arrogance doesn't lead to the PlayStation Network being hacked all week!

Sorry for the rant, but I just couldn't believe how stupid they are making this film.
As for Team America, that was taking the mickey out of Americans as much as Koreans and is not exactly real life actors..

Artistic expression be damned. We don't want to offend North Korea too much.

You need to take your tinfoil hat off if you seriously think sony would go through all this for promotion.

The only problem with the Interview is Seth Rogen just has no taste. He has absolutely no taste. And I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that he can't play original characters, and he doesn't bring much depth into his roles.

Now thats classic. HaHa If I cannot watch this stupid movie on iTunes I am throwing my new iPhone 6 in the trash and getting a Razr flip phone. That will show them!

Had Apple accepted Sony's offer and put it on iTunes, THAT would be a reason (and the only reason), that Tim Cook would deserver Person of the Year or CEO of the year award.

Somebody else already said it but it seems obvious that Apple doesn't want to do anything that could potentially disrupt iCloud, iTunes, App Store over the Christmas holiday when lots and lots of people will be activating new iDevices and downloading iTunes/App Store content. Imagine the embarrassment if these stores were down or Apple was hacked over the next few days. Not worth the risk. Plus I'm not aware of Google, Amazon or Netflix showing the movie so why all the outrage at Apple?

Is that text on the movie poster Korean? Does anyone know what it translates to?

Yes, it's Korean. I had the privilege of going to the joint State/ FBI/ CIA/ Military language school four decades ago to learn it, although I've forgotten most of it ... except how to read the words:

The beauty of written Korean is that it's a manufactured alphabet created a few hundred years ago by a king who unusually (for the time) wanted all his people to be literate.

To achieve his goal of an easily learned written language, the alphabet is phonetic and divided into syllables. Anyone can read it out loud and the sounds will make sense to a Korean speaker.

--

For example, the three sets of Korean letters on each side of the big middle English "INTERVIEW" title, sound like this: "in taw byu". If you sound it out, that's actually one way of saying "interview" in Korean, that was stolen from English!

The text on the missiles and tanks talk about war. The line below their names mocks the actors, saying something like "Don't take these American idiots seriously".
