Had Apple accepted Sony's offer and put it on iTunes, THAT would be a reason (and the only reason), that Tim Cook would deserver Person of the Year or CEO of the year award.

Yeah and if Apple gets hacked or its services go down because everyone and their brother are trying to access this stupid movie then what?

If it's so important to show this movie on Christmas day then why doesn't the U.S. government set up a secure website where people can watch it?

Not this thing again

I'm really tired of hearing about that stupid movie on all the websites I visit.

So this "rumor" says not that Apple decline the film, only that Apple declined to fast-track it ahead of OTHER content.

Maybe Apple saw the bad reviews and decided wasting time on a special exception to the process was just not worth it.

Just because Sony suddenly WANTED a Christmas online release they never even planned for thrmselves, doesn't mean Apple has to bend over backwards during their own busy season to make it happen.

Just watch Team America instead.

Sony Pictures recently attempted to enter talks with Apple over distributing its highly-anticipated film "The Interview" on iTunes, reports The New York Times. The report notes that Apple showed no interest in the offer, which came shortly after Sony Pictures announced that it would be canceling the wide theatrical release of the movie after being threatened by hackers. Sony announced yesterday that it would be showing "The Interview" at select independent cinemas, with Sony Entertainment Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton noting that the company is "continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience."

Article Link: Apple Said to Have Declined Offer From Sony to Host 'The Interview' on iTunes

1) I am surprised this topic hasn't been cast into the political/social/etc garbage bin.
2) It is not Apple's job to solve Sony or The Interview's distribution problems.
3) With Apple's general tendency to avoid "controversial" media, there is no way they would move "quickly" on this film.
4) I also liked another comment from elsewhere that Apple sure doesn't need a data drag on its networks on Christmas Day.

I'll borrow the oft-repeated expression from the crowd: *rolls eyes*

apple is not about to piss off china over this

apple is not about to piss off china over this

weak...

Still trying to find a theater in S. FL that will be showing it. I've never bought a movie from iTunes, but I can guarantee this would have been the first if I could have watched it on Christmas Day.

Where is said 'hacked email released today'?

It was a joke. How to get people who wouldn't normally see your movie 101

Step 1 - pull it
Step 2 - watch media frenzy
Step 3 - release movie
Step 4 - sit back and watch the money roll in as people who wouldn't have seen it now go to see it

I applaud Apple for showing no interest in the stupid movie. There is no benefit for an international company like Apple to get exposed to geopolitical dispute that also involves hackers.

Cause the US government is as scared as Apple of getting hacked!! Lol ;)

Seriously, are you suggesting that these hackers can just hack whoever they want ? We should live in fear over Xmas or in the future that North korea the super power will bring down our internet sites ??? Bit paranoid bud.

And what on earth would a secure website achieve?? You will find iTunes is a secure service ;)

Apple didn't bite because of the expedited release proposed by Sony for 12/25. If there was more time and if Sony wasn't so adamant about it being released on 12/25, i'm sure Apple would have hosted it.

The sentiments shared on this thread about Apple being cowardly and some taking personal offense to their decision is mind-boggling. Watch it somewhere else. Sony is set to announce their VOD plan later today for the movie.

This is complete & utter bullspit.
Apple is the most formidable techco in the world, and they're gonna kowtow to
a bunch of punk East European "hackerz"?!?

'Cause I guaran-effing-tee you that's who it is.
There's no attack from North Korea going on here.

And even it were, you'd think, since there is absolutely no love lost between
Korea & Japan, that SONY, certainly no tech slouches themselves, would go full balls-out
and bring all of thier very formidable power to bear in wreaking revenge on thier advesaries.
Plus, there's that whole "saving face" angle, y'know?

Tim Cook has shown time and time again that money trumps moral stances. He is not going to offend the Chinese.

Don't forget, the same people who ran tanks through Tiananman Square are his partners. The same rap star that beat a woman because he didn't like her review, is his business partner.

Nailed it. This is about China.

Meh. To my opinion Apple should take sony offer, with the publicity around this film,
it could very well made some good income for itunes.

But Apple has never been a publicity whore. I personally don't even believe there were any hackers and this is nothing but a publicity stunt by Sony with help from our corrupt government in order to help Sony return to profitability as they are so very broke. Bravo to Apple for telling Sony to stick their movie elsewhere.

Apple is rotten to the core.

It is ONLY interested in profit - which is fair enough since that is what any company is interested in - but Apple employees and fanboys are always assuming the moral high ground which is hypocritical.

Apple don't want to upset NK as they are friends with China who supply the slave labour needed to build Apple products is a way that maximises profit.

Never mind the fact that China and especially NK have APPALLING human rights records where people are treated like animals and denied universal suffrage (the right to vote in a democracy) or freedom of speech or freedom of association etc. Apple (and their fanboys) don't care a jot since all they want is $$$$$$$$$$ (or the latest shiny gadget).

I hope the NK leaders (especially the NK 'Dear leader') all get anal cancer for Christmas and die by New year - and their people find a way to freedom and dignity enjoyed by the rest of us in the West.

why should apple get into a fight with north korea? Apple is about making products and services not taking up someone else battle to provoke a war.

Some of the people here are crazy if they want nuclear war or any type of war with North korea. They have been watching to many hollywood movies where the US always wins with no casualties. Sending your children off to die over a movie. ****ing get a grip. Once it all calms down the movie will come out and everyone will go what was all the fuss about.

awe, c'mon apple, you're dropping the ball here!

Don't want to

piss off China now, do we Apple?!? They're helping to mask you labor problems overseas.

For those of you comparing this movie and how would we feel if a movie about killing the US president or British PM came out, consider who you are talking about here.

The North Korean regime is the most brutal on earth. The average North Korean is several inches shorter and several pounds lighter than the average South Korean due to massive malnutrition starvation diets the ruling elite force on the population. The regime builds missiles while its population starves. Their gulag system is brutal and extensive, where even the slightest disrespect to the leadership can send you there for life. Even being born to the wrong family can send you there as children.

Knocking off Un and this brutal regime should happen in real life, not just the movies.

YouTube is going to stream it now. Hopefully this means that every tech blog on the internet can shut the hell up about it already. The movie probably sucks @ss pancakes anyway.
