Why would Apple even get involved in something as controversial as this
And for those that think that this is a Hollywood publicity stunt.I doubt it as the FBI etc is involved
Wonder why Sony didn't go to Amazon?

Its only controversial to North Korea. So your saying, Apple should take the side of one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world

While I had no interest in seeing this in the theater, I certainly would rent it on iTunes.

I wouldn't be surprised if this stupid film didn't exist. Who cares anyway? It is just political nonsense pushing for our attention. Give it a miss.

This isn't a prepared app that is being uploaded by a developer. It's a feature length film. There are a lot of things that have to be prepared in order to prep a film for distribution on iTunes, I am sure. They have to encode the film for their system, prep FairPlay, consider multiple resolutions, etc.

This is all work the iTunes team probably has to do.

It's probably less that Apple didn't want to distribute and more than Sony gave them two days lead time, everyone is on vacation this week, and maybe they don't want to screw up their employee's holidays for a Seth Rogen movie.

It's seriously not that complicated for Apple to pull off. It's not like it's something they've never done before.

I assume it went something like this:

Sony said:
So... yeah, we made this movie, and some crazy people didn't like it... we don't particularly believe in it enough to think releasing is a good idea given the threats, and we're too cowardly to take a stand...

... would you guys mind taking a stand for us?

Apple said:
Um... no.

Do you know that for a fact? I am no economist but surely it is not impossible to actually produce something in the US instead of sending components around the world and back to save money on workers' wages and bypass humane labour laws.

As long as labor is a large component of making the product then products will be built where there is cheap labor to minimize production costs. Right now that is China but as their standard of living rises it will move elsewhere. If you had to pay them US wages and deal with US labor laws the cost would be prohibitive.

The products Apple produces in the US, the Mac Pro, require very little manual labor and are at the upper end of the price spectrum.

Oh good, I am very glad of that someone has some common sense in this mess.

Can't believe the utter arrogance of Sony and the writer of this ridiculous film.... Hey let's make an American comedy where we kill the most repressive, violent, threatening, secretive dictatorship alive that hates the west and especially America, and he wants nukes! I'm sure they'll find it funny..

What's next? An American comedy film killing the prophet Muhammed?

Yeah, only in America.

I just hope Sony's arrogance doesn't lead to the PlayStation Network being hacked all week!

Sorry for the rant, but I just couldn't believe how stupid they are making this film.
As for Team America, that was taking the mickey out of Americans as much as Koreans and is not exactly real life actors..

The whole thing is about freedom of speech and not stifling people . What's wrong with that?

Cowardly. Gotta keep those abusive factory bosses in China happy.

either that, or it would involve a lot of work beefing up their network and security and it's the day before christmas when most apple employees are off. ya think.

A publicity stunt? So they hacked themselves, ruined their reputation, released their private emails, released their employees personal info... For publicity on a movie they can't release.

People love conspiracy theories.

a lot of people with tin foil hats are out today.

You need to take your tinfoil hat off if you seriously think sony would go through all this for promotion.

This is the one of the best manipulations of government authorities promoting entertaiment since the fake "police are banning the concert" of Woodstock. In reality, the local sheriff didn't care much about Woodstock.

Woodstock started as a concert on the verge of failure. Then the promoters made up the police stories and camera cheating fake large crowds. This made for then "films at 11" on the news to get people heading to a farm pasture in the middle of nowhere.

Would not be surprised that the Sony exec's used the same playbook pages as the Woodstock promoters.

If this is true I and going back to windows and switching to android. I've just about had it with apple telling what I can and cannot do - LET THE MARKET DECIDE

I'm with you on this issue! Go bro and others should follow. Apple is suppose to let their customers decided if they want to watch someone or not.

There is a very fine line between conspiracy theory and business plan. IMO, the first ones to attack those exposing the man behind the curtain works for the man.

You nailed it. Growing up in an American northeast industrial town, I saw the originally well intended labor unions kill those towns. In two generations, the American heavy industry juggernaut was slowed down to scrap with excessive wage and workplace demands by a middle class that only did a single job and expected a high standard of living out of it.
