Anyone recall the thread a few months back that introduced the Kindle Fire at $199 and all the anti-Apple folks were boasting that the Kindle Fire would put a dent in iPad sales? How did that work out again? :D

Check out this story a week before X-mas. Hmmmm.....yup that garbage is flying off the shelves just like folks lining up for a crapdroid at a cell phone store.

If Amazon's Kindle Fire is so hot, why is it still in stock?
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/12/19/if-amazons-kindle-fire-is-so-hot-why-is-it-still-in-stock/

All the Anti-apple folks are now denying that they ever said that though lol. When the ___ hits the fan, deny deny deny.

It IS expected in the next couple of months. That doesn't mean it WILL come in that time frame. It only means the judging by past actions, most people expect it in the next couple of months. Most people, just not you apparently. But it IS expected.

If people expect it within a couple of months then they are silly. The know Apple only keeps to their own schedule. Well those sheep can blindly expect the iPad in a few months. I on the other hand will hope it is released soon but certainly not be expecting it within that time frame.

What is really funny is that all the Windows folks and crapdroid folks come here to put down Apple and Apple users yet none of us Apple users go to those forums.

BTW - Don't forget the same folks were boasting about the Windows 8 tablet in the Windows 8 thread a few months back too. I wonder how that will play out once the Win 8 tablet with clunky fan is released? ROFLMAO!

Because they produced more than enough to meet demand?

Not just forums, articles, blogs everything. You can google the word "Apple" read an article, scroll down to the comment section and see the deluge of android fanatics posting there. It's...sad.

You really believe that? Not being a jerk, but just wondering if you really believe that that's what happened.

They are distinctly different products so no surprises here.

I do think that the Kindle Fire still has a huge potential given that it's backed by Amazon and their enormous catalogue of content. Once this goes global at the price point they're at, it will be massive.

The ipad will undoubtably continue to sell well to it's existing user base, but I'm sure it will plateau within the next couple of years.

I dont know what to believe since amazon doesnt produce those specific numbers, so I am offering a educated guess like everyone else..

Right after Apple sucks all the profits out of the tablet market and moves on to the next big thing.

Kindle non-Fire

The new Kindle 4 (non-touch and touch models) with the pearl e-ink screen is a really good little device. It even has a webkit-based browser, native USB drive connection and native TXT and PDF file support. Connect to your Mac, copy your TXT/PDF files into the documents folder and you're done.

The e-ink screen is really not the fastest thing in the world, but for a device primarily aimed at reading documents, it's really not important. In fact it's so slow that webkit doesn't display animated GIFs, only the first image of the animation.

The really dumb thing that Amazon has done is to not release the touch version of their new Kindle internationally. The Kindle has been in the weekly flyers every week since before christmas here in Canada, too bad there's only the small base model with the little control pad at the bottom. Good enough to read books but really annoying when trying to browse websites.

I'd still rather use my first-generation iPod touch to browse websites on-the-go. But if you happen to only have a Kindle 4 with you, the browser is good enough to access websites such as MacRumors, SparkFun, web comics, etc.

IMHO the Kindle Fire is the wrong direction for Amazon, I'm just glad they also upgraded the e-ink line of Kindles. And that new Kindle 4 is the first model that actually has a good-looking design. The previous versions were really ugly.

Comparing an iPad to a Fire is inappropriate.

Other than form factor which loosely qualifies both as tablets, they're two different devices. Aimed at different target markets, there's plenty of demand for each.

It's a non issue to the informed buyer. The great majority of my friends & associates own both.

You know that you are on a Mac/Apple forum and as such it is demanded that you despise anything non-Apple, right? /sarcasm

Seriously, although I have no use case for an iPad or tablet personally, I would consider the Kindle Fire. I would probably end up with an iPad, though since I'm kind of invested in apple stuff. And yes, I have tried both as I work with a Kindle Fire and have used iPads.

I just have no need for either. It's not price, cheapness or anything like that. I just don't create a need when there is none for me. That's why I still have (and love) my 3GS.

The Fire makes a nice coffee table browser and email reader (I don't do eBooks, I'm purist when it comes to book, call me a dinosaur, if you will).

Well...not anymore, since it was shown that it can't compete...now all of a sudden it's apples to oranges. Convenient how that ALWAYS seems to happen

Why am I not surprised that this post was by you. Are you by any chance LTD's alter-ego?

Most members, even on here, believed the Fire is competing with the iPod touch, given how it is priced similarly.

Would you compare the quality of, and the sales of, a $20k Civic to a $50k Lexus?

Yeah...i especially like their product description: Vibrant color touchscreen with extra-wide viewing angle - same as an iPad

But yeah, no guys this was never meant to compete with the iPad, they just mention iPad in their own copy...

They're targeting their product to a non-techy userbase, people who won't know what 'IPS' signifies. So they compare it to the iPad, a well-known device. They wouldn't say 'same as an iPhone', since that's a completely different product. If they said 'same as an iPod touch', that wouldn't make any sense, because the touch doesn't have an IPS display. So iPad it is.

Has nothing to do with whether or not it's competing with the iPad.

Apple say that their glass is the same type as in helicopters, are Apple competing with Aerospatiale now?

What is really funny is that all the Windows folks and crapdroid folks come here to put down Apple and Apple users yet none of us Apple users go to those forums.

Not sure how many times it has to be stated, but (most of) those 'folks' come to correct your Apple-stickerized-eyes.

Just a note, Android users don't like to be labeled as 'crapdroid' folks any more than you like to be called a 'crapple fanboy'. We're all humans here, y'know?

would i? No. I wouldn't. But then again, I'm not the one who made that comparison.

Apple say that their glass is the same type as in helicopers, are Apple competing with Aerospatiale now?

Now, that's Apples to oranges. I pray that you can see the difference between helicopters and tablets, yes?

But yeah you're right, I saw an ad for Mercedes the other day where they said they have heated seats just like the Ford Escort

Why do they feel compelled to "correct" Apple-stickerized-eyes?

would i? No. I wouldn't. But then again, I'm not the one who made that comparison.

You were comparing the $200 Fire to a $500 iPad. So yes, you were the one making a comparable comparison (ha)

What you should have compared the Fire to is to the touch, as both cost around $200.

Now, that's Apples to oranges. I pray that you can see the difference between helicopters and tablets, yes?

But yeah you're right, I saw an ad for Mercedes the other day where they said they have heated seats just like the Ford Escort

The point is still valid. Amazon say their screen has technology similar to that of the iPad. Apple say their glass has technology similar to that of helis. One aspect is compared, and immediately you assume they're trying to compete. Why can't the same logic be applied to the helicopter glass?

Escorts have heated seats?! Some brand new $40k BMWs don't have them fitted as standard, pretty stingy of them wouldn't you say?

Why do they feel compelled to "correct" Apple-stickerized-eyes?

Same reason you feel compelled to reply to posts like mine ;)

Wow! You're right. Look at all the crapdroid folks arguing with Apple users in the story below. Hmmm.... where have I seen that before? :D

iPhone 4S wooing lots of Android, Blackberry Users
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-5...-blackberry-users/?tag=mncol;txt#postComments

Truly sad, indeed.

I feel that for people who really want an iPad, there is no substitute, even if comes in $300 cheaper. They are either waiting on getting a little more money together or waiting on more features on the device. I believe we'll see a lot of people pulling the trigger on iPad 3. I keep hearing that over and over in life and on Apple rumor sites in general "I want the retina display iPad".

If there was ever a device that people could claim "That's just a toy for your kids", the Kindle Fire is just such a device —— and I'm not being mean. Literally, it is at a price point that many can swallow and the small/more narrow device suits small hands.

Wrong. I was saying how silly it is that the android fanatics who were comparing the Kindle to the iPad and saying it would be the iPad killer are now backtracking and saying that it's an apple to oranges comparison. Believe me, I had zero doubt about iPad's success when compared to a Kindle Fire.

The point is still valid. Amazon say their screen has technology similar to that of the iPad. Apple say their glass has technology similar to that of helis. One aspect is compared, and immediately you assume they're trying to compete. Why can't the same logic be applied to the helicopter glass?

Yeah and Samsung wouldn't like people waiting in lines for their phones, either

If I say, "buy my product Y, it's just like product X" then yes, I'm trying to compete with the customers of product Y. Your denial doesn't change that fact.

Escorts have heated seats?! Some brand new $40k BMWs don't have them fitted as standard, pretty stingy of them wouldn't you say?

I assumed you'd know it was a stupid example, much like the one you provided. I was wrong, clearly.

Oh...ok. More awesome comparisons from you. I'm compelled to reply to your posts because you quoted me. Does macrumors label each thread with "To Android fanatics"? Naw, they just come here because they have nothing better to do.

Not according to Amazon.

Nobody's backtracking here, most agreed that Amazon were shooting for the touch.

Yeah and Samsung wouldn't like people waiting in lines for their phones, either

Have fun!

If I say, "buy my product Y, it's just like product X" then yes, I'm trying to compete with the customers of product Y. Your denial doesn't change that fact.

It's more like, "buy my product A, it's much cheaper than product B but one of the important points on B is on A!"

I assumed you'd know it was a stupid example, much like the one you provided. I was wrong, clearly.

Example? Oh. I thought you were just trying to make conversation.

1:30am in Tokyo, jet-lagged like crazy because I couldn't get any sleep on the flight over. Angled lie-flats are no good. What would you do?

That doesn't mean they're competing, it means they're just letting people know about another well known product

Exactly what I was trying to say.

Wait, what?

Fragmentoid sound better?

2011: The year Android had Multiple Personality Disorder

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/2011-the-year-android-had-multiple-personality-disorder/19486

No, not really. It just sounds a bit silly, and perhaps childish. Try 'Android' on for size. There, much better. At least it doesn't make you sound like a crazy Apple fanboy which I'm sure you aren't :)

Is posting irrelevant links in threads the new craze? I'm totally going to try that now.

http://venturebeat.com/2010/06/09/iphone-now-as-fragmented-as-android/

Or do the articles have to come from zdnet to qualify? Okay, here's one.
