This is a really weird way for Apple to publicly release such information. So they just officially leaked such info to daring fireball exclusively? Aren't there rules in place that force publicly owned corporations to share any information relevant for the stock price with each stakeholder at the same time, like through a press release, the website etc. Announcing strategic directions for the Mac desktop line seems quite relevant to me, esp. after such long silence here and many people fearing the worst.

This is absolute madness. On one side of the forums you get "With iPhone 7, Apple kept the same product design for 3 years! Disgraceful lack of innovation!"

On the other side of the forum:
Wow this is a huge middle finger to those who bought the current Mac Pro. To see it only get 1 iteration before its scrapped for another design.

Yeah, I know...

I gotta believe!

Really quite encouraging news.

The sad part is that if they had asked like... anyone... in 2011-2012 who used a Mac Pro, they could have told them that a tiny, albeit beautifully engineered computer you couldn't tinker with at all was not what typical MP users really wanted. But Apple will be Apple. Just so happy about this news. Best Mac news for a long time IMHO, for multiple reasons.

Now to start saving up for the 2018(2019?) Mac Pro... :D

Damn this is unprecedented hahah. I guess they got fed up with all of you "Mac is Dead" people.

I'm sure some of you are still pissed about there being no mention of Mac Mini.

They're going to make their own displays... Hmmm...

WOOOW !!
A "NEW" Mac Pro.....Like a "NEW" Ipad....and a "NEW" Iphone....let me guess.....REALY faster?
Apple hasnt produced something "NEW" in 10 years! Just more of the same! And really "faster" all the way till the next software update.....
Spot on so true

I guess they looked at their Mac results for the quarter ending April 1st
and decided they must say something...

Hardly. If you read the post on Daring Fireball they say the Mac Pro accounts for "single digit Mac marketshare". It's lack of updates is hardly a pressing priority in terms of pure sales numbers.

In fact, wasn't the lack of sales the reason you all said they'd abandoned the Mac Pro?

Lastly, how would announcing future products which they aren't selling yet help the sales of current products?

I wonder if those five guys had that meeting on the 1. of April, and Cook and his minions are having a blast at the moment, seeing this published... :p

But at a more serious level, I wonder why they gave such a huge scoop to so few people. This is targeted at all their Pro consumers, and Mac loyalists, so its a strange and new way of doing it. Mayhaps its a way to keep the mystery surrounding the products, without revealing too much, to maintain the Cook RDF, which is nowhere as strong as the Jobs one.

Wow this is a huge middle finger to those who bought the current Mac Pro. To see it only get 1 iteration before its scrapped for another design.
You think people bought the Mac Pro because they liked the design and would expect it to be used for future models? Wut? That's Trump level crazy.

Finally some news. At least they hear the massive outcry and responded.
I think this says a LOT about how far from the costumers they hit with this one. They got completely carried away by design, without giving any thought to what their costumers actually need. Apple has always been favoring design over functionality, but the last 5 years its gone completely bonkers.

Okay, there was no spec bump. They moved down the same old CPUs and GPUs into the next lower tier model, so it's basically just a price cut. The real deal is going to come next year.
That 6-core CPU is quite an upgrade in performance over the old 4-core version they previously used in the lowest end model, it's probably the sweet spot for most workloads (i.e. any software not specifically written to take advantage of many cores.)

Edit to clarify: I'm saying running Logic or an Xcode build will actually run faster on the six core CPU than the eight core CPU.

Wow, apple being pressured to tell whats coming in the future, thats quite shocking news in itself. Guess they must have felt the pressure of customers disatisfaction. Anyway, it is good new nonetheless. No point playing the silent game with professional hardware... at least when you never update it.

Insane! Did not see that coming. Sure it's real?

This means the Mac Pro will end up the same as the Cube... I'll buy a few and put them in storage lol.
So you mean buying a 3k machine and sell it in ebay at 300 dollars?? Wow that's investment :p
