For what the watch cost, that is not very good battery life, in my opinion. Get the battery to 12 hrs and I will buy.

You're working out with music for a full 12 hours? What type of super-human athlete are you?

I work out with music 2 hours a day. That is a lot with a full time job and a life. My watch has 30-50% battery left by the end of an 18 hour day.

Why do you get seven hours of battery when streaming Apple Music over LTE, but five hours when streaming radio over LTE? How is streaming Apple Music more battery efficient?

Probably because it can cache further ahead with Apple Music, since it knows what the next song is and beyond. Live radio would be completely unpredictable and in real time.

Great to know you can stream music for 7 hours.

How much data does that use? How much do you get per month in the $10/month plan?

With my Verizon plan I just share my data plan for all devices, husband’s included which is part of our plan (I actually have my 12.9 Ipad Pro on TMobile, not Verizon). So, if you normally stream with your phone, it would likely use same data—IOW, the watch is using the data instead of the phone. That’s what I have gathered from info. I have not succumbed to Verizon’s unlimited data and still have my 12 GB and always have data to roll over so I’m just paying to add a device to my plan essentially, not for a ‘new plan’.

With Apple Music, the song is downloaded all at once to the watch, then LTE is not being used until 2-3 minutes later another song needs to be loaded.

With streaming, the LTE data is always being used.

Because the song can be downloaded and then connection can be turned of, radio needs constant streaming.

I can see myself not upgrading my SE next year and getting one of these to compliment. My only issue is I'm on Voda and only EE support this atm.

Might be worth noting if you're sticking with the SE:
  • Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 11 or later.
  • Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) requires an iPhone 5s or later with iOS 11 or later.

Is working out a requirement to listening to music with the Apple watch?

My phone, with a much larger battery, won't even last 12 hours streaming music to a bluetooth headset. Why would you expect a watch to?

I don't know of any bluetooth headsets that last 12 hours without recharging either.

SE’s are A9 devices so a series ahead of the A8’s in the 6 models. OP will be fine for at least another upgrade cycle.

Did anyone mention how the original iPod had 10 hours of battery? It's pretty damn impressive that a watch, streaming music over cellular, connected to your wireless headphones, last 7 hours.

Sure but you'd expect improvements in 16 years!

Is that 2 hours working out with HR on? If so how much if a hit does the 2 hours take on the battery life

Yes, 2 hours with a workout active (HR on) while listening to music with my AirPods. I do change and shower and dress in those 2 hours, so maybe more like 1 hr 40 minutes. My battery seems to go down about 15%.

Thanks. That makes sense. I wonder if just Apple Music does this or if other non-live streaming apps also cache data for battery efficiency?

That's good battery life, it's come a long way in three versions.

Well, the Bose QC35 1 / 2 lasts 20 hours without a recharge over BT, and the latest Sony 1000 series lasts 30 hours over BT.

I’ve been streaming music from it since I got it before the update, it lets you select a station... dunno why this update says it’s finally here? I’ve gotten around 7 hours streaming.
