I’m really loving my watch3 with LTE!
Has functions I didn’t even know that I wanted
I’m really happy with the battery life and with the power outage here in Maine it’s giving me an extra phone.
I want Apple to bring back the playlist music view though that’s pissing me off that they took that away

Considering I can get 4 days on a single charge (I take it off at night) I don’t doubt this. I think apple was really conservative with their battery life statements on this device.

I would say that anyone trying to swim with AirPods in, has other problems to worry about.

Without streaming music you get 4-5 hours, and more if you don’t have it in workout mode. But again, Apple is conservative so I would expect people see more, even when streaming music.

You get 4 days(!) from a single charge? Wow. I'm getting mine Friday. Hope I can get half that.

My phone, with a much larger battery, won't even last 12 hours streaming music to a bluetooth headset. Why would you expect a watch to?

I don't know of any bluetooth headsets that last 12 hours without recharging either.

I do not expect the battery to last any specific number of hours at all.

My post to you was "Is working out a requirement to listening to music with the Apple watch?"

because you asked BasicGreatGuy

"You're working out with music for a full 12 hours? What type of super-human athlete are you?".

You and BasicGreatGuy are the ones who mentioned 12 hours and you're the one who seemed to assume that everyone listening to music via an Apple Watch is doing a workout.

Because the song can be downloaded and then connection can be turned of, radio needs constant streaming.

If people would be given the option to be a few minutes behind in the live streaming, the same method could be used.

Right. I've been blown away with battery life on the series three. I got three days (two nights) without taking it off and still had ~15% when I put it on the charger. I don't use the GPS workout capabilities (I keep my phone with me and run an app there with just a "remote" to the watch) but that's fantastic battery life for something they claim is a one day device.

It’s not an assumption. The quoted figure is literally about workout mode.

I’m a triathlete and have been using an Apple watch since 4/24/15.

I recently used a series 2 during a half iron distance event.

Though in fairness a workout with GPS and HR both running it won’t last more than 5 hours.

How much does it improve when you set it to power save mode for working out?

I would expect most would be able to get 3 days if they wear it 24 hours a day. As I have issues wearing anything on my wrists or hands when I sleep, I take my watch off at night. To be fair, by the end of day 4, I am in the Red zone for battery, but, it still gets me through the day.

Agreed!

More recently my use is more mixed than many, because my main SIM is actually in a Pixel 2 now, so, when I am away from WiFi my watch is connected to cellular when out and about. In that use, I am still getting over 2 days use, with constant notification checks (work Emails), streaming music to my AirPods, various SIRI activations, and controlling my AppleTV.

Coming from a series 0, I am amazed by both the speed of this new watch, and the capabilities that cellular unlocked for me. I love being able to enjoy both ecosystems (Android and iOS) while using a single sim and ATT account.

I work out with music 2 hours a day. That is a lot with a full time job and a life. My watch has 30-50% battery left by the end of an 18 hour day.
I run 12hrs straight 2 - 3 days a week and about 4 hrs at a time the other 3 days.

While running with GPS turned on, will probably give you a good 30 minutes. A 30 minute workout would be better than no workout at all.:D

They need to open up the Apple watch to Android, they missing alot of sales.

A big point of the Apple Watch is to keep people in the iOS ecosystem. Right now, if you want an Apple Watch, you have to have an iPhone. If they opened it to Android, they may sell more Apple Watches but there would be no reason for someone to switch to or stay with the iPhone.

It'd be stupid to lose iPhone sales (far far more profitable) in order to sell a few more Apple Watches.

Additionally, not having HealthKit and having to support all the hardware and other garbage issues on Android is a huge headache and one not worth the investment for Apple.

It looks like when enabling power save for workouts it cuts off HR, but HR is pretty important to me so I haven't tried it yet.

Wow! Crazy. What kind of mileage do you run per week like that?

For what the watch cost, that is not very good battery life, in my opinion. Get the battery to 12 hrs and I will buy.

You listen to 12 hours of streaming music a day WITHOUT your phone anywhere nearby?

Remember that 99% of Apple Watch users will only use LTE streaming when out for a run without their phone. When they're at home or near their phone, why not use it instead as it offers far more battery and likely a more reliable connection.

I run 12hrs straight 2 - 3 days a week and about 4 hrs at a time the other 3 days.

You should look at the negative health impacts of that. Science have shown people doing workouts like you describe live far shorter and have even more health issues. Ultra marathoners die early. The body simply isn't meant to be worked like that.

Why do you get seven hours of battery when streaming Apple Music over LTE, but five hours when streaming radio over LTE? How is streaming Apple Music more battery efficient?

Answer is constant (live) stream on radio versus cached streams on Apple Music. It means the watch can download 2-3 songs in one go then go idle to lessen the burden in the cellular modem and battery. If you don’t skip a lot, you should get the 7-hr figure easily.

Ok, I'll bite. There's a very high likelihood that your'e exaggerating just a little bit here. There are only a handful of ultra runners in the world that are putting in 48 hours of running a week. And I do mean a handful. Are you one of them?

I didn’t exaggerate. The mileage I stated is during race prep which i am in at the moment. During regular training, I run 100 - 110 Miles a week. For my age bracket, I am elite runner.

I hope Amazon comes out with a stand alone app that will stream Amazon music to the Series 3.
I have Prime so I don't see the need to pay for Apple Music.

I got a question that is probably a stupid question though.
I'm planning on getting a Series 3 LTE hopefully this black Friday or CyberMonday and giving my Series 2 to my son...

What benefit does the Apple Ear Pods give me over just regular BT headphones?
Does it give me more functionality with the watch?

Definitely not a stupid question. From a pure headphone aspect, there really isn't much difference. They're headphones that play audio. The sound, for Bluetooth is pretty good. The advantage comes in the ease of use. When you put them in your ear they're automatically connected to all of your devices. You don't have to go in a "forget" them on the device they are connected to to use them on another. They are absolutely awesome.

The battery life on the Apple Watch series 3 is amazing for the amount space they had to work with.

Just in general, the amount of technology and features that are packed into the Apple Watch of a 38/42 mm casing that can fit in the palm of your hand and is more powerful than a computer 10 years ago, really is truly amazing.

The Music app on my LTE is using 4GB of storage to hold of what the watch thinks I will listen. The radio and Apple music services are live over LTE, etc. as needed.

And how many triathlete's around the world are Apple targeting with their apple watch, may I ask?

For me the 3hr number is the number that means the most. That is how long will it last using all the features all the time while I'm out. So a full day out, 8-12 hours, would be much more ideal than 3hrs. A lot of room for improvement. I think I'll stick with the s2 and wait to see how the s4 improves on the battery.
