Why not put a power-efficient OLED, reflective LCD, or E Ink display on the back and make the logo rotate with the device? That way it would always be the right orientation. You could even make it backlit so the logo lights up like the old MacBooks.

I always thought that Apple designers used iPads in portrait mode like their phones leading to all sorts of stupid behaviour in landscap.

Seems like they are finally getting the message, iPads are used in LANDSCAPE as seen in the latest iPads moving the front facing camera.

Steve Jobs rolling in his grave.

iPad was supposed to be a creative tool.....ended up as a glorified netflix/youtube/gaming tablet.
I don’t clearly remember, but I had a launch day first generation and I remember it being more about newspapers and magazines. I don’t particularly remember it being in any way held out to be a creative tool. But I may be recalling badly.

Uglification of iPad continues. It was supposed to be other-than-desktop device. What is the point of buying it then if it is to be used as a “cool kid MacBook”? I get that all people are different, but Apple now remind me Xiaomi with so many useless devices on the market. Fragmentation won’t make them more money in the long haul

Logo orientation? Don't care.
More emojis? Don't care.
iPad colour? Don't care.
First party calculator? Don't care.
Being able to move icons on home screen? Is that really the best you can do, Apple?

Please sort out iPad OS. Make it worthy of the hardware. YMMV...

Read his autobiography.

He realized after he unveiled the first iPad that critics were right in calling it a consuming device. So they pushed for GarageBand and iMovie on the next model to make it more of a productivity device.

It’s getting further from being a consuming device in every generation—and in fact, some of the productivity tools like Stage Manager, the Pencil, mouse/keyboard support, and the Files app would likely make him roll harder than *checks notes* landscape support?

It seems people liking portrait are a minority, seeing how recent iPad Pro reviews all celebrated the front camera moving to "the correct side", suggesting everybody uses landscape nowadays

This is because you’re more likely to use the webcam with the iPad docked to a keyboard or stand on a table, which are all landscape.

Portrait makes most sense when you’re actually holding the iPad and using it to read.

Apple will also change the buttons, the camera orientation, speaker locations, and attach a keyboard and rename it MacBook.

Real iPad Pro users hold it -- mostly in portrait orientation -- and use Pencil.

Actually his idea was to make it a consumption device. Tim Apple made it a creative tool with the introduction of the pencil, which was dreaded by His Steveness.
That’s totally not true. When the iPad 2 was introduced, the wide array of pro apps of that time were rolled out as well: GarageBand, iMovie, Keynote, Pages, Numbers etc. While disregarded by many nowadays, it was a great package to have on 512Mb of RAM and ancient ARM processor.

That’s btw how many people have shifted to on-the-go workflow for photo editing.

Tim on the other hand done nothing but introduced a Pencil that was awkwardly charged by inserting it into the lightning port (NSFW pic of how it looked should be inserted here). Everything other is just more of money milking from new users by introducing newer pencils that looked less goofy (and now a question, why make current gen goofy? Just to sell 2nd gen as a better alternative?).

Pretty sure 2nd version of Apple’s VR skigoogles will have battery built in and everyone will be like “woOOOww CAN’T INNOVATE ANYMORE! MY 🍑”

I am amazed at the number of people who are upset about this rumor.
