Apple Says HomePod is Delayed Until Early 2018

Man I wanted this for Christmas
Apple has announced that its HomePod speaker is delayed until early 2018, according to a statement provided to CNBC.
"We can't wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple's breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers," Apple said. "We'll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018."
Apple previously said the HomePod would launch in December in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.

Don't care about HomePod... just give me AirPlay 2 already!
They probably should have launched it in March or April to begin with. I feel like that's a good time of year for Apple to announce new products and work out the kinks. Autumn and the holiday shopping season is a very busy time for them. The Apple Watch was announced early and released the following spring and it did quite well.
Is it being punished for leaking Apple's secrets, or is it gathering more secrets to leak when it's released ...?
I'm also glad about this. After paying up front for the iPhone X (256GB), my tech budget is easily blown for the rest of this year anyway XD
Did Apple learn that a missed self-imposed deadline might be better than rushing a product out the door before it was finished? Cough... iOS 11.. cough.

I want to get one, but it still feels like Siri needs to get WAY better before it will be useful. If Siri on AppleTV is an indication, the HomePod will return some pretty bad results.
Guarantee this is an AirPlay 2.0 issue. They haven't implemented it in any public betas yet, and it was slated for iOS 11 release
too late as it is. i already got used to Alexa. at least she doesnt sound like an angry ex wife
HomePod, AirPlay2, iMessages in the cloud, Amazon Prime on Apple TV, New MacPro...well, they can announce them all again at the 2018 WWDC.
You know the HomePod has lesser sound quality based on what exactly?
EDIT: I get it the newer Echos have better sound quality now as opposed to the older Echos.

I really love the clean lines of this speaker design. Hope it's possible to turn off Siri colors, or mute them to just white. Hope it lives up to its impressive presentation.

Apple has lost this battle before it even enters. I’m sure a small contingent will buy, but this will definitely be a flop (on the Apple scale).
I still say it’s because there’s a major Siri update coming.
The speaker itself is pretty straightforward tech. I can’t think of any other reason they need to delay a pretty simple product (compared to something as complex as the iPhone X).

Yeah, like they missed the boat on smartphones.
When will people get that Apple doesn’t care about being first. They care about getting it right.
So that Apple swingers would hold off on buying an Amazon Echo or Google Home.
That's really disappointing. Was looking forward to getting this "under the tree."
This product will be a flop anyway. Which audiophile does not have a speaker system at home? And who loves Siri so much to spend a couple of hundred of dollars on it?!
Was referring to better than their previous models.
Actually AirPlay 2 was working in previous beta. Gone in the current beta. Seemed to work fine for me when I had it and was able to control my Apple TV music right on my phone like the native music app.
Because the people that work on Apple Park are the same that do the hardware/software? Absolutely not.
