I installed it on my iPhone 6. I'm switching back to an old iPhone 5 now because my phone is now officially ruined. Found out the hard way that the lag complaints are real.
I have an iPhone 6 and installed iOS 11. It has noticeably slowed down many functions of the device but it has not ruined it. Everything that i previously did with the device, i can still do. There are even some new features, some i like and use, while some i don't. I have decided that i would rather deal with the slow interactions and have up to date security.
What is your definition of "ruined."

Pretty sure this is just 32 but devices that can’t run iOS 11 instead of only 64 bit devices that can.

Volume of legacy apple devices is growing??? People not buying new apple devices as often??? People no longer see the value in upgrading the OS???
i am willing to bet that all of your assumptions as reason for slower adoption of newest OS are true. I know a number of consumers that have continued to use what this forum would consider old Apple products. They bought expensive products continue to perform all the tasks that they bought them for and see no reason to replace them. I have several friends and family that have iPhone 5 as well as iPad 3 and get full day use from them.
Saving money is not a crime.

this is absolutely true , in the past we could easily downgrade if we don't like the new version of iOS but some time ago apple changed that and started with the no signing previous version of iOS so people can't downgrade.
How far into the past are we talking about here?

Seems low given that 2 out of 3 people in my household upgraded against their own wishes (they tapped later because the message kept popping up and they didn't realize later meant it would be installed later that night).

I'm the holdout in my household but having what I believe are hardware problems with my iPhone 7 and Apple is insisting I upgrade to iOS 11 because the issues I'm having may be bugs in iOS 10 . . . argh.

What sort of problems with iPhone 7? I'm in the same situation, battery drain is ridiculous, and there is no way I'm updating to iOS 11.

Let me ponder...

All of my 32-bit apps will stop working.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about that. I can't stay on this device or iOS10 forever.

The latest OS breaks 32 bit apps. Be careful if you are using older apps. Be a late adopter.
How useful are apps that haven’t been updated in over three years? I have older apps I loved to pieces.. but most 32-bit only apps never made the jump to the Plus iPhones anyway. If you never updated your app in the three years I had a 6+ it’s time to move in.

If people really cared, they would pay some money to the App developer for either new versions or updates. The thing with most 32-bit apps is that they were written for iOS 7 or earlier and the tool sets have completely turned over since then. The “incremental improvement” path is gone and it’s 100% scratch rewrite time.

Some good stuff got left behind. People care and would pay, developers are the ones that don't care. They had a choice to provide an update. Users were never given an opportunity to purchase an upgrade.

In once case I have contacted the developer and he said an update was pending in the next few weeks--that was years ago and the update never came. Since it is abandonware at this point I have asked him to give or sell me the source code but he will not. I have also offered to pay the developer to update it himself but he is not interested.

In a second case I offered to pay the developer to update but he does construction work now and told me he basically has no interest in it any more.

I did not know about the loss of the incremental improvement path. Obviously time for me to move on.

Always.
I want to see the sliver of iOS6/7/8 from people who think their respective version is the "best eva" and refuse to update.
I usually stop by these articles just to be that guy.

Luckily I downgraded my mini4 back to ios10 while it was still an option. iOS11 crippled the device, and as I see on my Pro, it's still an unstable, badly designed mess.

There are a number of posters complaining about battery drain on iPhone 7 on iOS 11. I certainly experienced it on my iPhone 7. However, taking it to Apple now they run diagnostics and tell you that the battery is healthy. I was advised to erase all content and settings, set it up as a new phone and come back if i still had issues as it was likely some sort of software bug. It was a very different experience to my last issue (with an iPhone 5) where Apple swapped the phone on the spot.
Beyond battery drain, iPhone 7 was my least favourite iPhone and I have had every generation since 3GS except the 5S. I found that bluetooth connections often dropped out, bluetooth audio (despite this being the wireless audio phone with no headphone jack) was much lower fidelity than other devices I owned. The LTE modem did not keep a data connection as strongly as my previous 6S+ did and the camera was barely better than the 6S+. I often felt like downgrading to 6S+ again with that phone.
I could've pressed much harder for a replacement phone but I was coming up to a point in my contract where I could upgrade to iPhone X and I did. Pretty near every issue is resolved - I still believe the 6S+ LTE modem is better in real world use. If I wasn't so heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, based on my iPhone 7 and experience at the Apple Store genius bar, I could easily have decided to make a switch.

Welcome to the club. Apple ruined my iPhone 4 , after that I've only ever updated + 2 iOS updates from the original that came with device .

Be okay if you could downgrade . My iPad Pro is still on iOS 9....

I had a similar experience with a 4s. Worked great with iOS7 but iOS8 killed it. Seemed to get a little better with 9 but still really slow. I type really slowly and Safari can't even keep up with me. Two updates is the most I will do now, if that.
