I had a similar experience with a 4s. Worked great with iOS7 but iOS8 killed it. Seemed to get a little better with 9 but still really slow. I type really slowly and Safari can't even keep up with me. Two updates is the most I will do now, if that.

Apple will keep their best update until 2nd year to please those who bought apple care plus. After that apple don't give a sxxx about their crappy updates. Do 2 update at most, then just use it until it dies or upgrade to a new phone.

Honestly, one of their worst iOS releases, thus far. I've had nothing but issues on my 7 Plus since upgrading, even after multiple restores as a new device.

Welcome to the club. Apple ruined my iPhone 4 , after that I've only ever updated + 2 iOS updates from the original that came with device .

Be okay if you could downgrade . My iPad Pro is still on iOS 9....

Wipe the devices and start fresh maybe. I have a four year old iPad that is running ios11 just fine. Never had issues with upgrades.

The fact they are bragging about these numbers tells me they don’t get how buggy iOS 11 is, especially on the iPad where it breaks workflow.
Bragging? The information is simply part of statistics that Apple provides for developers.

Planned obsolescence...simple as that.

But no, Tim Cook will tell you it's not about profits.
Right, a big conspiracy that so many people have been able to keep secret for so long, and one that basically pisses off the users and would drive them away. It totally makes sense.

Your 4 works with ios7?? Mine was rendered COMPLETELY useless from being so slow and poorly responsive. Three year old phone rendered completely useless thanks to Apple’s Chinese finger trap update routine.

Makes me laugh every time I hear an Apple officer brag proudly about user adoption rate when updates are probably 5% comprised of loyal satisfied customers and 95% comprised of a mix of users who decided to finally update and stayed, plus users who wish they didn’t update and are trapped.

Apple fooled me once with ios7, fooled me twice with ios11’s podcast app. I’ll investigate long and hard before next update.

"Chinese finger trap update routine"... I love it. You phrased it perfectly.

My wife (Chinese, coincidentally :D) is pissed after the update notification that she fell for. She's having issues with her SE now that she confusedly hit the wrong button during a recent nag popup - she's no tech nerd and I imagine her contribution to the 59% was as innocent and ignorant as much of the rest of them. My 7 is running perfectly fine on 10.3.3 and considering my 6-7 hours/day using the Podcast app, I'm in no hurry to change that.

Volume of legacy apple devices is growing??? People not buying new apple devices as often??? People no longer see the value in upgrading the OS??? People realize an upgraded OS can cripple the expensive device???

Let me ponder...

Since when do OS upgrades cripple the devices?

iOS 11 is now installed on 59 percent of iOS devices, according to new statistics Apple shared this week on its App Store support page for developers.

That's up from 52 percent on November 6, indicating iOS 11 adoption has grown just 7 percentage points over the course of the last month.

33 percent of iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices continues to run iOS 10, while 8 percent of devices run a version of iOS earlier than iOS 10.

iOS 11 adoption has been slower than iOS 10 adoption. Based on Apple's official App Store numbers, for example, iOS 10 was installed on 54 percent of devices in October, a month after the operating system had been released. Comparatively, iOS 11 was only at 52 percent in November, a month and a half after launch.

Apple has already released several updates for iOS 11, but that doesn't seem to have improved installation rates, especially as many of those updates have been made available to address major bugs found in the operating system.

Over the weekend, Apple released iOS 11.2, the second major update to iOS 11. iOS 11.2 introduced Apple Pay Cash in the United States, but the update was released early to fix a date bug that was causing crashes on December 2. As a result, Apple Pay Cash was not initially available and wasn't provided to customers until yesterday.

With Apple Pay Cash now available, though, customers who have been reluctant to upgrade may install the iOS 11.2 update to access the new feature, so it's possible we'll start seeing improved installation rates in Apple's next App Store support page update.

The more important stat should be that 58% of people are having issues with their iOS .. still on 10.3.3 here, I refuse to "upgrade" until all the bugs are worked out which looks like it will be in the month of Nevuary... really surprised that number increased this year from last year, I learned my lesson a couple years ago, never again.. i'll be interested to see what that number is next year

This is ******** now. Break it down according to each release! A developer if they want to write some code, now has to target each release. If I want 59 % I'd have to code for iOS 11.0

Things that are compatible with iOS 10 will be fine with iOS 11 so that would still get the vast majority.

Do these figures take into account legacy devices that cannot run iOS 10 or 11? I would think not. I just sold two iPad minis and an iPod that cannot run past iOS 9. Still own two iPods that can only run up to iOS 9. I can't believe only 8% of currently used iDevices are running prior to iOS 10.
This. I think Apple needs to disclose actual numbers to be believed.

I may be the minority but I’ve had zero problems with IOS11 and actually really enjoy and welcome all the changes.....

I bought an iPhone X.

Obviously it has to run iOS 11, but I keep my iPhone 7 for running 32-bit apps, I will never upgrade it.

After putting up with a half-baked iOS 11, I can say with 100% certainty that I will absolutely not upgrade to iOS 12 next year until it has been out at least 6 months. Not a threat, not a joke, I'm not putting up with this kind of crappy product again.

I'm happily one of the 33% running all my favorite apps and games on iOS 10. No compelling reason to upgrade my 7+

Ipad pro 12.9 is laggy on 11.2, sometimes doesn’t register finger pressure. I close apps and that seems to help. I would install from scratch but I have a game that would have it’s score reset to 0. The 2 iphone se s seem to be doing fine on 11.2
