It's really pleasing Apple has investigated this issue quickly and determined that Apple Ti is not the cause. Hopefully all the YT faux science experts trying to blame Apple Ti will now go away.
Unlikely. I’m pretty sure the Algorithm filters for lack of shame…

Is everyone's short term memory this shot that they forget every year people are complaining about hot phones and bad battery life for the few days after a major OS update or a new phone launch? Yeah, the phones do a ton of indexing and background stuff the first couple days, then go back to normal.

So why does my phone heat up like a Spirit Airlines gate at Miami when i UPDATE my apps in the App Store app?

This is totally an OS issue.
Because updating does a lot of flash writing in addition to cpu usage for decompression/compressing etc, which is quite power hungry and heat generating.

Sonoma is rock solid. iOS needs an UI redesign. They need to adopt the 3D look that the macOS app icons has. It's bizarre how the iOS UI still is on that flat UI design that it's been stuck on since iOS 7. Considering how most Android phone makers have moved back to 3D iconography from the flat look of the 2010's.

I would really like a 3D icon look on iOS, yes, but I doubt they will go this route. I really like macOS icons and the overall look of the system. iOS, I’d like a change.

Still, this is a different topic :)

I’m sure the next lawsuit is already knocking on their door.

Anyway it’s so funny to see people defending Apple in all kind of ways like… Apple has eaten my child, nooo your child ran into Apples mouth, it’s your child fault.

And it’s sad to see adult people trying to overblow minor issues or accept made up ones just because they didn’t get a new iPhone this year.

" In fact, Apple said the titanium frame and aluminum substructure provide better heat dissipation than any previous-generation Pro models with stainless steel frames"

uh, does it really ?
Yup. Aluminum’s thermal conductivity is about 230 W/k/m whereas steel is about 15. Titanium’s TC is 12.

There's nothing minor about spending $1200 on an item and it malfunctions. Whether its a TV, game console or refrigerator I expect it to perform as advertised.

When has the frame of an iPhone ever been a significant part of the heat dissipation of the phone? The times my phones have gotten hot it was always the back that was hot, never the frames.
I've found on my 15 Pro Max that the left side rail near the SoC does get quite hot when the phone is under full load, and I never noticed that with the stainless steel phones.

In any case, this points firmly in the direction of titanium not being a problem.

Allow me to clarify myself. Throttling is necessary without sufficient cooling, which appears to be what Apple will need to do to correct this overheating problem with the 15 Pros.

Oh yeah? Even though the iPhone 15 Pro under full load isn't significantly hotter than the 14 Pro? Care to explain that?

Now the question is, who fed Kuo that garbage about titanium? Was that an honest mistake? Or is there some effort by Chinese nationalists to subvert Apple. They got so butthurt by huge demand for iPhone 15 Pro in China, and lukewarm reception for the Huawei’s subpar sanctions-buster. I’m not saying it was, but could’ve been a psyop by the masters of TikTok.

I'm getting that vibe from a lot of posts I've seen lately. Same talking points, same dodging questions and points that refute what they said.

I have described my experience on 13 Max Pro. I have never had any issues with any iPhones starting with iPhone 5. The forums and Reddit are full of similar reports about the 14 and now the 15.

The claim was that this started with iOS 16.5.1. I've gone from iOS 13 up to iOS 17.0.1 on my 11 Pro without having a problem that allegedly started with 16.5.1, so it can't be said that 16.5.1 started this if there are iPhones that had it that did not have any issues.

BL.

they put a cpu in a phone that runs at 3.7 GHZ . with no adequate space to cool the sucker
which also equals throttling . dum.

Who needs 3.7 GHZ in a phone?

only fix is a software patch to crank down the speed of the CPU.

By how much? who knows.

another big blunder just like the poor antenna design on the iPhone 4 was it? or 5?

It is okay for the device to heat up, when it is actually doing work.
And actually a good sign, that the heat is getting "transported" outside and not trapped inside.

It’s not the hardware, it’s the software and our lack of QC. We couldn’t be bothered to test our flagship product with some of the most common apps on the planet. That’s what our users are for.
Apple probably did, however on an older version of the app. The app developers update so frequently that the developers probably didn’t test on the new hardware before they released it. Apple can’t delay a flagship product because the developers don’t keep up or plan appropriately.

13 Pro here, and after upgrading to ios17, I noticed my phone was running very hot, screen was dimming all the time, and battery life was suffering. It resolved itself a couple days ago. Sucks that we can't really get any visibility into what apps are causing the issues...can't exactly load a terminal and run top.

Kinda puts a wrench into Apple's whole "side loading apps would be a disaster!" thing...I mean even with the walled garden you have situations like this where they are approving apps for the App Store that have the potential to ruin the user experience with the device.

I believe this is a software issue though and not related at all to any specific chips or chip issues; at least it was for me.
Could you imagine if they did choose to block app releases for this reason, Apple gets slatted so much now for some of their policies with apps in the store. If a release was declined because the apps caused performance, heat or other issues with the device, it would always be Apples fault, if that was because of OS, hardware or otherwise.

Maybe they should put a lovely message when an app downloads to say “this app performs poorly, as the dev hasn’t caught up, install at risk”.

[not arguing against your point, just giving another opinion for a different angle]

Or a lovely App download message like, "Beware, this app performs very well on all iPhone's up to iPhone 14*, but our latest generation the magic amazing gorgeous fantastic iPhone 15* is incapable of running it! Yes, don't blame the iPhone 15*, it's the App! Your trusty Tim. 😘"

And also a lovely message when the Phone App opens, "Beware, this app performs very well on all iPhone's up to iPhone 14*, but our latest generation the magic amazing gorgeous fantastic iPhone 15* is incapable of running it! Yes, don't blame the iPhone 15*, it's the App! Your trusty Tim. 😘." Ohhh shhhh it's our own App, Craig get over here👇, NOW!🤬

Which Apple apps are having an issue? I was under the impression it was only some 3rd party apps.

Nah, also when People make a bit longer Phone calls, or FaceTime calls with Apples own Apps, and also while charging.
