Apple today made three changes to its vintage and obsolete products list, involving the iPhone 5s, sixth-generation iPod touch, and an older iMac model.

First, Apple now considers the iPhone 5s to be an "obsolete" product worldwide, meaning that Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers no longer offer repairs or other hardware service for the device. Apple says it considers a product "obsolete" once seven years have passed since the company last distributed it for sale.

Apple released the iPhone 5s in September 2013, with its key new feature being the Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the Home button. The device also introduced the A7 chip, which was Apple's first iPhone chip with 64-bit architecture.

Second, the sixth-generation iPod touch and the late 2015 edition of the 21.5-inch iMac with a Retina 4K display are now classified as "vintage" products, as more than five years have passed since the company stopped distributing the devices for sale. Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can continue to offer repairs for vintage products for up to two more years, but only if the necessary parts remain available.

The sixth-generation iPod touch was released in 2015, and it was the second-last model of the device. Apple discontinued the iPod touch line in 2022.

The iPhone 5S was an absolutely gorgeous design. The chamfered edge, the champagne color, the metal Apple logo. I still have mine in my tech drawer. I wish modern phone designs felt this “inspired” these days.
I still have my 1st gen iPhone SE, which if I recall is pretty much the exact same design with internal upgrades. At the time it felt just... normal, but now it feels like this special little mini-phone. I really wish phone carriers would let you have multiple phones on the same line, because I'd definitely boot it up and use it as a light "going out for an evening" phone.

I upgraded every other year back then so had the 5S for 2 years, good phone for the time but long moved on.

iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone SE 2016

The final set of iPhones with no protrusion/camera bump...

Now, time to search for a new or a very good condition iPhone SE 2016... It was nearly identical to iPhone 5s except for the SE badge and matte chamfered edges... Also, Rose Gold which was originally introduced by iPhone 6s...

But, I still like Space Gray next to iPhone 5 Slate...

And I also like the blue iPhone 5c which felt more durable due to the steel frame supporting the polycarbonate/plastic body...

In hindsight, a great device and one of the biggest leaps, especially for an S upgrade. Touch ID was a big milestone that changed forever how we lock our devices. And the so called desktop class 64bit architecture A7 SoC was already leading the way, hinting at what would come in the future.
