My all time favourite in retrospect. I regretted upgrading to the 6s+ and selling my 5S to fund it. From a piece of fine jewelry to the ugliest iPhone ever made (6-8 series). Pay and the desire to try a bigger iPhone were the reasons. I missed it dearly soon after and at the very least, I am glad the boxy square design returned with the 12 and up. The 5s was so light and easy to use, and TouchID made it futuristic. First iPhone I went case-less with and just used a sleeve from time to time. Damn time flies!

I think this is the iPhone I appreciated the most. Its design was perfect for the technology at the time.

Apple should use flat sides for devices with screen size less than 6 inches but switch to rounded sides for screen size 6 inches and larger...

Bring back iPhone SE 2016 and iPhone 13 mini type of devices Apple...

Because of physics, I had to go with a larger device due to a larger battery capacity but I may switch to a smaller one once the display and battery capacity can last for about 12 hours of straight usage... One can dream...

Had a gold one. Actually two because I drowned the first one but back in the day iPhones were still affordable and you could get a replacement from Apple for half the price. Easy the prettiest iPhone since then, imho. My red 13 mini looks o.k. but with it's protruding camera it got more of the rustic charm of a steampunk-tool. Nothing like the elegance and beauty of the 5s.

It's a shame there's no way to just swap the SOC. I wouldn't mind the a little crappier phone camera and the worse screen. If it had only been waterproof it would have been perfect.

I wouldn't say the 7-8 was the ugliest, but the 6 in grey wants to make me puke

A customer was using tap pay and I asked him is that a iPhone 5S and he said yes it’s still working with the Verizon network even though new phones must use voice over LTE, apparently it’s using an older protocol to connect to their network.
It must have been an SE because the 5s does not support Apple Pay.

I had kinda a crazy history with the iPhone 5S. I got a silver 32GB one when they first came out to replace my iPhone 4. I loved it but a couple weeks later I had an opportunity to trade it in on the Gold 64GB which was the most sought after phone on the market at the time so I did it and I don’t know what was wrong with that one but it was easily the worst iPhone I ever owned. I’m pretty sure I got a lemon but I never bothered to swap it in since it was so hard to find the Gold 64GB in stores.

Anyways I kept it until I was ready for another upgrade which I took for a Samsung Galaxy S5 which in turn ended up being my final Android phone when I replaced it with the iPhone 6+ and I’ve been all Apple ever since.

Wow. Seems fair to obsolete it at this point. That is one very old phone. Over ten years now from its release date.

The jet black 7 was 🔥, but those antenna bands and the cheap side buttons in comparison to the 4-5 series in the other colours were dreadful. It was a super cycle for the large screen iPhone, and you could see and feel the difference of cost cutting to make the biggest margins on the device. Tim Cook's reign was coming to the fore, and Ives narcissism was ruling the roost.

The iPhone 5s was the last iPhone without a camera bump. In 2014, Tim Cook failed to keep Jony Ive's worst tendencies in check by allowing a iPhone design with a camera bump, which Clueless Cook has allowed every year for 10 years now.

5s is my first iphone and it is the most beautiful iphone apple has made imo. I would have used it much longer back then if it is not because my water bottle leaked and my iphone is “swimming“ in it without me realizing until too late.

Evil corporation with forced obsolescence! My Lisa works perfectly fine and Apple should continue to support it! 😠

/s
I presume you are joking about having a Lisa, but those are worth a lot of money these days, I know someone who has one and still working.
A good machine for its day, but so expensive.

As for not supporting devices, it does seem to happen very quickly these days, I suppose that is the problem with relying on stuff that is connected and have software/firmware updates. I have an old Samsung flip phone if I turned it on and installed a sim, it would still work, and it is over 20 years old, that is as long as they keep the old 2G going. 3G is being turned off in the U.K., but 2G will stay for years.

The Ipjhone 5S is around 11 years old? So not bad considering how quck things seems to go out of date these days. But it can still be used.

Apple needs to support products longer for the prices they charge, much longer.
Don't mistake me for an Apple apologist but isn't nearly 11 years long enough?
I can tell you for certain when the 5S was launched in 2013 literally no one was still using an 11 y/o phone from 2002.

Happy memories for me... I was in Singapore at a conference, just after launch. Long story short... I could not find it anywhere during my three days in Singapore. People laughed if I asked if they had any in stock. Then, whilst waiting for the airport bus, I went into a real dive electronics shop opposite (and nearly didn't bother because it looked like the sort of place where people buy fuse wire and hot-water bottles), and they had it! "Of course we do, which colour?" Then a couple of happy hours in the airport lounge with champagne, setting it up. At the time it felt wonderful.

Yeah I really liked this design .
I still have the first Gen SE, I keep it as a collectable 😁
