The iPhone 5s was universally loved and it introduced Touch ID. What a great phone. No camera bump, no bending, 64-bit chip, seamless authentication with Touch ID, chamfered edges, beautiful color options -- the thing just felt like a piece of jewelry -- not a gadget.

Contrast that with the iPhone 6 the next year. Clunky rounded edges, camera bump, design that bends, bigger screen without upgraded RAM lead to performance issues due to shared memory between GPU and CPU -- the 6 series sold like crazy because it was a bigger iPhone but it was one of the least loved iPhones. The iPhone 6s series fixed the performance issues and the iPhone 7 series refined it further with camera improvements and some sweet color choices.

But, I don't think we will see a design as nice as the iPhone 5s again given that so much of the feel of that iPhone was due to its small size.

My first iPhone. Space gray, 32gb. A thing of beauty. There were only two times I clearly felt being mesmerised by the look of a phone: 5S and X.

Sadly, I wouldn’t say A7 lived up to the expectations. By the time X arrived my 5S was barely useable.

I still have my 1st gen iPhone SE, which if I recall is pretty much the exact same design with internal upgrades. At the time it felt just... normal, but now it feels like this special little mini-phone. I really wish phone carriers would let you have multiple phones on the same line, because I'd definitely use it as a light "going out for an evening" phone.
The first gen SE was a wonderful tribute to the 5s -- giving it all new internals (and I think a better camera) while keeping the awesome design of the 5s. I was sorely tempted to buy a first-get SE when they came out.

The 5S was great, but when I upgraded from the 5 I sort of regretted it. It didn’t change too much over the 5 for me.

Those 5/5s/SE phones are so gorgeous I won't be surprised if 20 years from now people resto-mod the shells around a modern device.

Ah, the last before the camera bump (now the camera ziggurat, which protrudes >30% of the depth of the phone). Glad they at least brought back the flat edges and not the slippery rounded ones in use from 6-11.

Touch ID is also superior to Face ID, as it would let me unlock the phone while I brought it out of my pocket and up to my face without requiring attention or movement.

Only the A9 chip and better rear camera from iPhone 6s were new, the rest was from iPhone 5s...

I love this design. Almost want to buy an iPhone SE just to have one again. One of my favorite phones.

A customer was using tap pay and I asked him is that a iPhone 5S and he said yes it’s still working with the Verizon network even though new phones must use voice over LTE, apparently it’s using an older protocol to connect to their network.

Using an iPhone 6 128 GB to do Facebook marketplace and OfferUp and Nextdoor.
Facebook is starting to wain with compatibility issues and stopped receiving updates but Messenger is still getting updates. Some links in the Facebook app don’t work anymore but I’m still selling things with Nextdoor and OfferUp. I’m glad they’re still supporting the older devices.

I offered my GF a newer iPhone but she still likes her first generation iPhone SE and its size, and as long as the carrier supports it and I can get batteries she’s fine with that.

The 5S doesn't support Apple Pay, so it's probably an SE that does support NFC and VoLTE.
