iPad mini 4 was one of the worst. Basically an iPad mini 2 with more base storage.

I am stuck with one and it's awful, it's so atrociously slow for even the most basic of stuff, it pauses and freezes just going through settings at times. I only keep it around as a screen for my security cameras at work. I have Windows devices which are older but run Windows 10/11 quite well.

Don't they vintage hardware they can no longer replace under Apple Care? It that is the case, they probably ran out out Product Red parts to repairs.
true. forgot to say that too. they could have run out of parts (the chasis) and it wouldn't be worth maintain it or getting more. it's a limited edition colour so it's going to run out before the standard colours.

The iPhone 6 was such an incredibly good device. Not only did it add bigger screens and Apple Pay, but the battery life was really good for a phone at that time. I've got so many fond memories with my iPhone 6 Plus... wild that it's been almost a decade since it came out. 😩

Wonder why the iPhone 6 is listed as "vintage" but the 6 Plus is "obsolete". Very strange.

It’s based on the last date of manufacture, so I imagine Apple continued making the 6 (probably for lower-income markets) for years after the 6 Plus.

If they released a 6 with much stronger chasis, edge to edge screen, good quality camera, while maintain a reasonable battery life i'd probably buy it. I don't think any of the recent iPhones are thick but yes the design of the 6 was really special at the time and I have fond memories of it.

the look of the phone except the bezels still holds up but there are issues with it that would need fixing if it were to come back.

Hell yeah. They did strengthen the chassis quite a bit with subsequent phones after the whole inflated "bendgate" thing and don't think it was an issue after that. But yeah I'd take a 6 type design even with today's thickness, I just feel the banded surround design of today's iPhone's make it "feel" and look much more boxy and chunky.

yeah just like how they scrap the more expensive models of iphone/macbook when a new one comes out.

the 15" M2 Air is not manufactured anymore despite it only being 9-10 months old. the 13" M2 Air is older but will be supported much longer.

it's the same for the 13 Mini, Pro, Pro Max or the 14 Pro Max. They stopped selling them when the 14 series and 15 series came out. the standard 13 and 14/Plus will get longer support than the others.

The iPhone 6 has been obsolete for a few years now. Apple's just making it official. Can't speak to anything about iPad Minis. One of the (very) few Apple products I've never owned.

Did you read the article?

"Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014, with key features including larger screens than previous models and Apple Pay support. Apple discontinued the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2016, but the iPhone 6 remained available through resellers in select countries for a few more years, so it is not yet considered "obsolete.""

Still one of the best designs and every time I pick up the iPhone 6 I am impressed how light it was! Even the 7 Plus is like wow that’s light. What happened.
People whined about battery life and Apple taking thinness too far.

The iPhone 15 is thicker without measuring the camera bump than the iPhone 6 was with measuring the camera bump. All that criticism about taking the empty space caused by the camera bump and turning it into battery - they did it and then some!

I upgraded from a Mini 2 to a Mini 4 and it was definitely worth it. The laminated screen was a big improvement and while the A8 wasn't a big upgrade over the A7, the 2 GB of RAM (the Mini 2 came with 1 GB of RAM) really made a difference as it wasn't constantly reloading everything.

Maybe you're joking ? but Apple wouldn't joke about this...

iPhone 6 came out a decade ago. It's not worth them supporting anymore. Those people who don't want to upgrade don't need to but if anything happens it's on them. They should not expect Apple to support such old hardware.
It’s remarkable they kept supporting it all these years. It may not get further updates but it should still work.
I’ve never heard of a phone with such long-term support. Most of my previous phones (T-Mobile, HTC, Motorola, etc) were ignored by the manufacturer after a year. My HTC Windows Mobile Phone only receive one upgrade in 2 years, and was still several versions behind.

I told people at the time to avoid the 6 and 6 Plus because of their limiting 1 GB RAM.

The 6s and 6s Plus were sooooooo much better with their 2 GB RAM.
Yeah agreed. Apple really counted on the bigger screens selling the 6 and 6 plus as the internals were barely an upgrade from the 5s. I'm glad I waited on the 6s back then as it was a big upgrade all around coming from a 5.
