Here is macrumors the latest iPhone 17 is the boom, last year's 16 is Ok to have it, and the 15 is already half-life. Apple is really falling behind these days.

10 years of support is a long time in tech, a lot of other tech would be classed as obsolete by the manufacturer before this time period.

No doubt someone on here will be hitting the angry emoji because of this.

Not if Apple allows after market parts. Heck I can get parts for 20 years old car if I need, but I can't get part for iPhone.

If I am still carrying iPhone 6 and screen break, I really won't care about replacement screen being genuine or not. At this point, cost of genuine screen will be more than market value for a new phone anyway. So if I can get a 30 dollar replacement screen from Amazon, then I would be happy.

My iPhone 8 Plus still has plenty of performance left, too bad it was thrown under the bus.

iOS 16 is still supported by Apple. So it is not entirely thrown under the bus. If anything, you can still use your iPhone 8. Most app will still run on iOS 16 for a while.

Rest in hell, iPhone 6 Plus. I've owned about every iPhone generation and that was the worst iPhone I've ever owned. It didn't have enough memory for that 1080p display so things like browser tabs and apps would frequently reload and I think even sometimes you would get that old checkerboard when scrolling websites like the original iPhone and 3G, and sometimes 3GS would often have. It also had some random weird glitches that would frequently happen. Back then, iOS didn't have some of the reachability features either, such as the keyboard that you could slide to one side or another. And the slide down reachability using the old home button wasn't very accurate or reliable.

Right now I’m using it as a full time hotspot for my internet using the visible network. Unlimited data and hotspot (50gb) for $25 mo with all fees no contracts (hotspot capped at 5 Mbs). :p
Doesn’t get hot running all the time.
They have a test drive for eSIM users otherwise they will mail you a sim.

My older android devices went EOL much sooner.
My Honda cars running android 5 are still plugging along…

Apple today added a handful of devices to its public-facing vintage and obsolete products list, including some older iPhone and iPad models.

Apple now considers the iPhone 6 Plus to be "obsolete" worldwide, meaning that Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers no longer offer repairs or other hardware service for the device. Apple says it considers a product "obsolete" once seven years have passed since the company last distributed it for sale.

Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014, with key features including larger screens than previous models and Apple Pay support. Apple discontinued the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2016, but the iPhone 6 remained available through resellers in select countries for a few more years, so it is not yet considered "obsolete."

On the software side, iOS 13 dropped support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2019.

As for the iPad, Apple now considers the fourth-generation iPad mini to be "vintage," meaning that more than five years have passed since the company stopped distributing the device for sale. Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers continue to offer repairs for vintage products for up to two more years, subject to parts availability.

Apple also added the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to its "vintage" products list, but in the (PRODUCT)RED color only. The devices remained available in other colors for longer, so those colors are not "vintage" yet.

I can still feel how comfortable the iPhone 6 felt in my hand, compared to my current XS. And i know, the 12 … 13 … 16 would/will not bring that feeling back. If at least there was going to be a 16 … 17 mini again.

What will Mother Nature think of Apple discontinuing support for perfectly functional products?

This decision by Tim Cook and Apple will likely result in more waste, more pollution, a larger carbon footprint, and further climate change.

Very disappointing, Apple.
Blame Wall Street and all shareholders for this. They are all at fault to accelerate global warming and climate change by virtue being greedy.

Apple didn't stop selling the iPad mini 4 until March 18, 2019... let's call Mother Nature back in for another meeting 📅

Imagine how quickly all these 2024 8GB Macs will be dropped like this by Apple the minute something they want to advertise needs a lil' memory in a few years.

Good to know about this. Don't think many will still be using iPhone 6

Apple stopped releasing security updates for the iPhone 8+ last Fall. That’s the most minor form of support possible - seems dubious for them to argue that the 8+ is still supported when they won’t do at least that.

Can I sue them for failure to release updates for a product that’s allegedly “supported”? It required me to retire my phone and spend money on a newer one since my company (and many others) refused to permit devices that may not be secure on their network.
