Maybe you're joking ? but Apple wouldn't joke about this...

iPhone 6 came out a decade ago. It's not worth them supporting anymore. Those people who don't want to upgrade don't need to but if anything happens it's on them. They should not expect Apple to support such old hardware.
I do not have enough AAPL shares to support your point of view. Kudos to people who hold on to their gadget for that long and save some precious resources.

Still one of the best designs and every time I pick up the iPhone 6 I am impressed how light it was! Even the 7 Plus is like wow that’s light. What happened.

Ugh. Apple's thin fetish is still not over.

Make. Them. Thicker.

It's ridiculous that we still don't have swappable batteries. Before the iPhone, I always had multiple batteries for my phones, I'd have them in external chargers and when the battery ran out, I could swap in seconds. After the iPhone, I had to have multiple phones, one on the charger and one in use, I'd swap the SIM card into the other phone. And now with the stupid e-SIM I can't even buy a US phone if I want to be able to do a quick swap. (At least battery life is better now, and I can put the phone on the charger and swap Bluetooth headsets most of the time. But I'm still not gonna risk not having a physical SIM.)

What will Mother Nature think of Apple discontinuing support for perfectly functional products?

This decision by Tim Cook and Apple will likely result in more waste, more pollution, a larger carbon footprint, and further climate change.

Very disappointing, Apple.
Unless they find a way to break the laws of thermodynamics then Apples Mother Nature talk is just BS.

Apple car: oh your car is 10 years old, it’s obsolete we don’t sell parts for it anymore and we don’t allow 3rd parties to supply parts either. Why would you want that old junker with a 10” screen? the new one has a 20” screen!

There REALLY needs to be a law. 20 years MINIMUM full support for phones. The technology is mature now, it's insane that anybody still 'upgrades' every year.

I didn’t know even know there was a 6 Plus, thought there was just an iPhone 6.
I did. I own one.

It still works, even if it's a bit slow. It's not my daily driver, but it's still usable. Had to have the touch disease repaired, obviously not by Apple since they just swapped boards with another defective one. 3rd party repair FTW!

Thank God. In today's social media craziness, posting fake articles (especially if they have a basis in reality) is just a bad idea now.
I think most of the Internet stopped with the April fools jokes four years ago 😔because there wasn’t much to laugh about on 4/1/20

Probably for the best. The 6 plus was a flaming pile of garbage. It's funny because I wanted one so badly up until I had one. The 6 wasn't really any better, though it had less display issues.

Wonder why the iPhone 6 is listed as "vintage" but the 6 Plus is "obsolete". Very strange.
The iPhone 6 continued to be sold in an official capacity by Apple after 2016 (albeit after a temporary hold), whereas the 6 Plus was permanently discontinued that year. The regular 6 eventually got discontinued permanently in 2018. Taking these years into account and Apple’s general guidelines on when a product becomes vintage (5 years after it gets discontinued) and obsolete (7 years after discontinuation), it makes sense that the 6 Plus is now classed as obsolete as it has now been 8 years. The regular 6 on the other hand still technically falls under “vintage” as it is still within the 5-7 year window (6 years now) after permanent discontinuation (2018). I’d give it another year or two for Apple to finally pull the official plug on it ;)

I’m guessing the reason for the difference in the discontinuation years between the 6 and 6 Plus is because Apple probably wanted to keep selling the regular 6 at a lower price in developing markets, so decided to just keep production going. The 6 Plus may have simply been too expensive to sell in these markets, hence the permanent discontinuation in 2016 - a year after it was launched, as per tradition.

Hope this helps!

PS: Attached is some relevant info pulled from Apple's official site and Wikipedia’s timeline of the 6 and 6 Plus models if you’re interested!

The EU is, of course, already working on it https://repair.eu/news/new-eu-rules...llow-new-ecodesign-requirements-by-june-2025/

Seems promising.

And who knows, it might even force Apple to offer great value/$ in new products again if it wants to keep profits steady.

No way Apple can get away with its embarrassingly minute iterations once consumers get software support and fairly priced parts for repairing for years and years.

*Edit: The 6 Plus was discontinued 2 years after it launched, not a year as previously mentioned. My bad. I guess they brought down the price a bit after the 6S came out and continued to milk it for all it was worth for one more year!

iPhone 6 was a revolutionary breakthrough when it was released in 2014 and I still admire the craftsmanship 10 years later. I still have mine.

One of the challenges with iPhone 6 these days is the 1GB RAM and therefore lack of software support for iOS13+. I use Google Chat which no longer works on iOS 12. Minimum requirement is iOS 14, like many apps. Even iOS 14 will start to lose support once iOS 18 is released this fall.

iOS 15 still has widespread support due to the sheer volume of devices that were sold with 2GB+ RAM as well as the sheer number of devices that were cut off by iOS 16.

You could argue that the smartphone market for iOS 15 "end of the road" devices was larger/more mature during the iPhone 6s and 7 era than it was for the 2012-2014 devices cut off at iOS 12 (iPhone 5s and 6). The iPad Air 2 was very successful with more capable processors and Touch ID.

iPhone 6 still works with many popular apps like Netflix but those days are numbered. If you just need a basic phone for calling texting or something for young kids it still works.

“Apple now considers the iPhone 6 Plus to be "obsolete" worldwide, meaning that Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers no longer offer repairs or other hardware service for the device.”
And then
“Apple discontinued the iPhone 6 Plus in September 2016, but the iPhone 6 remained available through resellers in select countries for a few more years, so it is not yet considered "obsolete."

HUH?

I think it's because the standard iPhone 6 (non "PLUS") continued to be sold as a budget device with only 32GB storage.
