that's really unfortunate. this probably doesn't speak well for their interest in desktops either
rather sad and worrisome! They're dropping out of the "Pro" business entirely at this rate.
Pretty soon Apple will be out of the Mac business altogether.

I love my Thunderbolt displays because of how simple and easy they are to connect - Having the charging cable and Thunderbolt basically as one cable is outstanding and simple. I've yet to find a third party monitor that's half as simple and smooth and acts as a true hub like the Thunderbolt display.
Sad day.

LG makes some great displays now. I know there was an initial ghosting issue or some kind of debacle with their displays on the early rMBP but it seems they've ironed it out. We have a 4K LG TV that is fantastic and the screen on my 2015 rMBP (LG) is awesome as well. All Apple would do anyway is use an LG panel, put some metal around it and up charge by 125% so I don't see how this is bad news?
This is exactly what the new LG displays are. You can charge your laptop with the same Thinderbolt 3 cable. In fact it's better since it's a unified port, unlike the separate Thunderbolt and MagSafe cable of the Apple TBD. It's literally no different. It's just manufactured by LG instead of Apple (the TBD you have also has an LG display inside.)I love my Thunderbolt displays because of how simple and easy they are to connect - Having the charging cable and Thunderbolt basically as one cable is outstanding and simple. Fine, but can one company -- ANY COMPANY -- put in 5 seconds to figure out how to make these displays not so BLOODY UGLY? I mean, this $1300 LG monitor -- way to make a home look like an accountant's office.
Does it though? Dell's 5K is a year old and costs $1100 and requires dual display ports to run it, so is an extra $200 for a device with a single cable and native Mac support really "Apple Tax"?And hell, at $1300, it has the Apple tax to boot.
