... calling into question future plans for an Apple-branded display product. ...
that's really unfortunate. this probably doesn't speak well for their interest in desktops either
I completely agree with this (I use LG TVs and monitors anyway) but I can't help but think the ones Apple are now pushing are some of the most gaudy displays I've ever seen. Both Apple and LG have much better designers than this.LG makes some great displays now. I know there was an initial ghosting issue or some kind of debacle with their displays on the early rMBP but it seems they've ironed it out. We have a 4K LG TV that is fantastic and the screen on my 2015 rMBP (LG) is awesome as well. All Apple would do anyway is use an LG panel, put some metal around it and up charge by 125% so I don't see how this is bad news?
Seems Apples out of the desktop computer business too considering Mac Pro and Mac Mini stagnation, SAD.
So, let computer makers do what they do best and smartphone makers do what they do best too?Makes sense. Let display makers do what they do best... Make displays. And at a better price.
The 5K LG display (with collaboration from Apple) sounds pretty nice.
This just in...
Apple is out of the Mac Pro business.
Don't see how that is clear since they just released new pro laptops less than 24 hours ago. They never said they would release updated desktops for yesterday those are expected early next year when we will see new iMacs and potentially new Mac ProsI think it's clear that Apple is no longer in the "pro computing" business at all.
Not enough money in the standalone display business to be interesting for them.
Apple had two choices:
1. High margin + low volume = minor revenue
2. Low margin + high volume = minor revenue
Let the LGs of the world do battle in the race-to-the-bottom.
Indeed.... i.e. "forget" to mention it.To be honest, if Mac Pro is discontinued, they would announce just like the display.
