The issue "exists" technically, but it's clearly not very noticeable to an actual end user. if it was, journalists wouldn't have to make dramatized, edited videos of it to make you realize what it is

It's all sensationalist drama for clicks and traffic, and they got you all caught up in it

What about those of us who've seen it in person - and find it to be awful.

Actual first hand experience.

Do we count?

There are plenty of legitimate display issues and features that can't be illustrated on another display without exaggeration.

When Retina displays came out, people took close up pictures that compare normal displays and Retina displays. I can imagine someone saying "If Retina displays are so much better, why do you have to show a close up view to be able to show us the difference?"

Given that Apples refused to cover my 12PMx bad battery, well within warranty period saying that it’s normal. Went from 2 days usage to barely making it through the day, 9 months, 130 cycle count and 88% health dropping fast along with battery usage life.

Apparently, in the search for maximising profits they have started to cut corners on basic hardware materials, as long as they can get away by using their TM words “You’re using it wrong“.

Premium experience my arse.
I really am beginning to question if any new Apple purchases are worth the added apple tax after all of this?

I've owned an iPad mini 2, 4, and now 5 - and have never had this problem. I went to an Apple Store today and tested five mini 6s: no scrolling problem whatsoever. And I'm a real nit-picker.

WHAT WAS DISAPPOINTING: the usable screen width of the mini 6, in Portrait mode, is at least a quarter-inch narrower than my mini 5. It's quite visible if you're accustomed to the mini 5. This is also noticeable in Landscape mode. For me, this mutes the benefit of the 7.9 to 8.3 diagonal expansion.

What I thought would be a slam-dunk purchase, now has me waffling.

I do wonder if videos of the 'issue' can amplify the effect due to the difference of screen refresh rate and the video frame rate.

My iPad 3 did this and I thought it was just the way scrolling worked on the iOS. It didn’t look like it does in the super slow-no video where it appears the screen is separated in two all jittery, but just like one side trailed the other fluidly.

I thought it was a fancy iOS graphical flex.

I agree in person it terrible as i found out myself the other day when i went to test one out.

I'm really now starting to dislike Apple they seem more interested in profit margins than actually giving customers quality hardware & software, I'm dreading Monterey release because of all the bugs that will probably come with.

We have a major Tim Cook problem...
I am so ready for new leadership and a new creative direction.
It’s hard to argue with Tim Cook’s success though. 10 years after Steve Jobs’s death it is hard to argue that he is just coasting on a roadmap that Jobs created. Cook was a better successor to Jobs than Ballmer was to Gates.

Cook has hinted that he will retire within the next 5 years. It will be interesting to see who succeeds him.

Ummm, iPads have been scrolling like this for years now. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to complain loudly enough for Apple to issue a statement!
Yup. My iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen scrolls like this in vertical orientation as well, although not as obvious as in the video.

It is most certainly not software related. In theory, software could be used to compensate for the issue, but it would add latency to scrolling. Ultimately the problem lies with Apple switching the display's orientation (or refresh direction, rather) and I'm sure they will have learned from their mistake when the next iteration arrives.

What was the goal of changing the refresh direction?

Nope. Apple previously made the screen top down in portrait mode. This is the first time Apple has changed gears and made it top down in landscape mode. Yeah jelly scrolling was a thing in landscape mode, but less people noticed it because not many read text in landscape mode.

The issue is reproducible on all the older iPad Minis. It's just this time some prominent Twitter users have decided to make an issue of it.

Enjoy your iPad Minis and stop worrying about a totally fabricated non-issue.
I never noticed it on my iPad mini first generation. if it was there it was not noticeable at all. its Not fabricated. I wish I didn’t notice it. I like the device otherwise but can’t get myself to cough up $650+ for what I feel is a flawed device.

Seems to be one glaring omission. Come to think of it, all the “YouTube Influencers/Reviewers” omitted it, too.

Makes one wonder what’s most important by a reviewer: the actual testing and review, or the presentation? From the looks of things, more attention seems to be spent on production.
IUpdate at least mentioned it for longer than 3s, so I guess that’s sufficient “coverage” that is not a full blown video.
Of course, good review or not, if the YouTuber cant convey their thoughts to viewers through good presentation their review means nothing imo.

Ever heard about “making your point clear”? They found this, they see it, but they have to find a way so other people can see it too, to some degree. I’d say they are doing just fine demonstrating this . Your point on the other hand, sounds more like “prefer to convey no information other than the most obvious”.

They always are. They are a business after all. But tunnel visioning profit is another matter, and sadly Apple is doing just that.
Monterey release oh… the release where I need to spend 30s every time I want to use AirPods Pro with it.
You know I love to see where Apple is 20 years from now, will they still be a multi trillion dollar company or on the verge of bankruptcy, because customers will at some point finally opened their eyes to what Apple has become.
They might no longer be “multi-trillion” dollar company, but they are far from being dead anytime soon. For customer to collectively bring down Apple, something must happen so horribly that at least 1 billion customers are angered by it and voting with their wallet, which will likely never happen. Sad truth.
