I’ve never noticed this on older iPads. We all pay a premium for Apple products and one thing which should have no compromises is the display. People need to check this out in the store first. Once I notice something like this it bugs the hell out of me. Remember the issue with some iPHones which looked like they had spotlights coming down from one side? I just had to return mine. The guy in the Apple Store hardly noticed it but I got a full replacement and the new model didn’t have the issue.

Yep both the 11 and 12 pro max have it on, doesn’t affect brightness though.

Most of the new 13 panels are trash.

Oh no, I know it doesn't impact brightness - was more just curious on the font thing.

The new panels don't look great in your pics - thx for posting those

They are cheaping out on display quality, so their shareholders and Timmy boy can get them extra dollars.
In a way, Apple has become too successful. They sell around 200 million iPhones each year. That's more than half a million iPhones produced each day. I can imagine it's difficult to maintain consistent high quality with that kind of throughput. This isn't to excuse Apple in any way, but just to consider the reality of the situation.

I know where someone can get a job in another 3 or so years.

Have you tried more than the one you have?
Nope, but other people are saying the exact same thing, sent pictures to apple, I’ll see what they say, not holding my breath, they’ll most likely say, what you’re looking at is normal lol.

Lol that’s gonna get taken down faster than I can tie my shoes

MR Hates when the commentary pendulum swings in one direction. They prefer painting a landscape not holding up a portrait ;) if you catch my drift

I do appreciate Apple commenting about this so quickly so that literally everyone is still in the initial return period.
Best reply I e seen in this thread thus far along with the past quote below.
iPad Mini's?

A TON of people.

The one handed nature of them is a major selling point of the device.

Pilots also usually use them in Portrait as it works best with yokes and again one handed or on a knee or mounted
A tonne? Strange phrase when it’s about weight vs volume is users ;)

I get it just at common age old phrases.
The easy fix is to flood Apple with Mini 6 returns.
Bingo!
this if done in extremely high numbers would have Apple re-investigate the issue deeper and adjust production.

The limited time I used a browser on an OLED tv, or watched Star Wars with vertical scrolling for the pre text, there was no jelly whatsoever.
TVs refresh from top to bottom, so scrolling vertically won't show the skew issue. I can see the skew with horizontal movement on my 120Hz OLED. I can see it even more easily on my 60Hz desktop monitors when I move a window horizontally.

What needs to be done is simply do the same test on other iPads. With so many youtubers, why nobody do this?

Literally in the thread...

Interesting video, showing that other iPads and tablets also have this “jelly effect”. It just seems more pronounced and in portrait mode as opposed to landscape.

It's a common trait in LCDs, it just happens that the iPad mini refreshes in a different direction than usual. It's not a defect.

Yeah that dude even says that he is not comparing his iPad Pro because it’s barely noticeable. How about on an iPad Air 4 with 60 Hz.

Problem is on mini 6 it’s very obvious in portrait mode for which as others have mentioned in this forum is the benefit of the mini viewing preference. Had it been noticeable in landscape mode not many would care as people generally view videos or games that refreshes the content quickly where the eyes compensate. Plus not many prefer to read in landscape mode on a mini, which begs the question does Apple even know how users of its own products use them.

It is not reproducible on iPad mini 5.

Yeah, it does suck that it refreshes that way. I'll be interested to see if they change panel/refresh orientation during the next generation to make it less noticeable.

Ultimately I understand why customers are un-happy and why Apple says it's not an issue. It technically isn't, despite it being annoying. Hopefully those with use-cases where it's annoying can return and get a different device that works better for them.

I find that the MR community if quite fair and respectful without the need to be censored but from my experience, the MR forums are treated like its a political forum in China. There, ive said it. Go for it MR. Suspend me. I know its coming.

Oh man. I can see it straight away on this video. That would bug the hell out of me. Why did they make it so it refreshes that way? Most people will use it in Portrait mode to read. Its a pass for me on this product.

Yeah - we are all trying to figure that part out.

If there's ONE iPad that would be most likely to be used in portrait mode -- it's the Mini.

It's literally the last one they should have made this panel orientation change on.

Oh no now I can’t read while scrolling

Sucks if you're a pilot flying along in a plane in weather on approach to land .... trying to read a chart or other pertinent info --- and the scrolling is oozing all over the place.

It can be a very fast paced environment -- not one where wonky scrolling is welcome, at all

Sort of like these guys -- seen in the actual Apple video event announcing these new iPads..
