I can't duplicate the issue using finger scrolling (even reviewing slow motion) on my iPad mini, however the test link below does cause the jello effect when the iPad is rotated correctly.

But using this site I also see it on my,
- Xs Max (holding in Portrait orientation)
- 11 Pro Max (portrait orientation)
- iPad Pro 11" (2018). (looks just as *bad* as the Mini 6)
- M1 MacBook Pro (horizontal) (looks much worse than any of the others)

In daily use however, I don't notice any impact when using these devices, however as I stated in another thread, the phenomenon was / is really apparent on previous generation iPads I owned. The worst is my the 1st Retina iPad (iPad 3Rd generation) as well as my iPad Air 2 that I have long since sold. Perhaps iOS 15.1 Beta did some minor tweaks to make the text scrolling a bit less of a wobble, on my mini. I never used it with base 15, as it enrolled me into the beta program when I transferred settings from my iPad Pro 11".

For a select few, just like PWM (actually OLED flickering), it is a legitimate issue that can ruin a device for them which sucks! Not a big issue for me, as I don't see any extreme impact of the phenomenon in my normal daily use, and will trade the

Even my iPhone 8+ doesn’t scroll smoothly. It’s why the facebook style internet is making everyone go blind. It’s horrible on the eyes to try to remain focused on scrolling objects that are self blurring. It’s like an autofocus lens constantly trying to focus on two objects at once.

more like as some authors have stated, they can't reproduce it. So until it is actually seen and investigated by the engineers how real is the problem?
Every LCD display have it.
They only refresh 1 line at a time. Not 1 frame at a time.
It's always like this since LCD came out. It just people notice them less when refresh from top to bottom.

Maybe someone did bring it up but they were shot down by a higher up saying “psh, people won’t notice. They all use it in landscape mode anyway. Don’t worry bby.”

Or perhaps they said -- look - quiet down -- we are using these cheaper screens, like it or not.

Tim wants more juice out of this lemon..

It's normal for LCD screens? I have an old Chromebook Tab 11 (tablet) that doesn't do this. And it has like 1/50 th the processing power and capability as the ipad mini...

Mine doesnt have this issue.

All the videos showing it are slowed down on purpose to emphasize the effect- just shows you how minor of a nonissue this is that the media is blowing up out of proprtion for traffic/clicks

post-internet journalism is so pathetic

Absolutely incorrect.

Apple themselves have said this is a thing

If you're unable to notice it yourself, be happy!
But please don't erroneously claim it doesn't exist.
It does - The manufacturer of the device is on record saying it does.

Virtually every LCD screen does this - surely you can just ignore it?
Nope, this effect tires my eyes a lot, it’s very disturbing. I’m not kidding, after scrolling, I see the already straight lines a little tilted. It is like something you travel a lot on bus or some vehicle and after the trip when you just sitting on a chair or laying in bed, you feel the motion afterwards, like you are on the vehicle yet, however you are resting. I cannot describe better the experience.

It 100% do this.
If not, rotate 90 degrees and try again.
All LCD panel have refresh directions.

In real life, in my opinion it is much worse than on the vids. Everything is tilted during scrolling. The rectangle shapes become trapezoids, the narrow lines go tilted etc… very annoying. I’m so effin’ disappointed ‘cause I love the chassis, the screen colours, everything.
This is exactly how I feel, and my exact experience of using this new Mini. Thanks for putting it into words 👍🏼

Well Apple, you screwed up - you took a known issue with screens (most apparent when scrolling) and decided to build a product that exaggerates the problem in portrait orientation, aka the way everyone scrolls through content. It's actually admirable that Apple is not blowing smoke up our asses about the source of the problem and that it won't be fixed. It's honest.

However, it was also their choice to build it this way, and for that they won't be getting any of my consumer dollars for their product.

There are so many (bad) products on the market that make you say: "Did they even test this thing themselves before they released it?" It's rare that an Apple product gives that sort of reaction, but unfortunately this is one of them.
Apple consumers pay premium for their devices and absolutely don’t expect these type issues. Apple does this from time to time and seemingly more often. Releasing a product with sub standard quality and maximum profit in mind.

Thanks guys I did not notice it at first now I see it, it is one of those things once you see it you can’t unsee it.

I think even the M1 pro does it but way less.

You can never avoid this issue. They could compensate it using 120Hz display but that's not coming this year for the build budget of mini.

What really aggravates me about this whole debacle is this: go into an Apple Store and look at the iPad Minis on display- the demo units are placed in portrait mode. This has always been the predominant use case for the Mini, and no one at Apple thought this would be an issue??!

When the next model coincidentally doesnt have it, can we complain that it's weird its not there and that seems like not normal behavior? Is that how this works?

I guess some survey may tell apple more people are using iPad mini in landscape.
As it makes sense some people in fact using iPad mini as a gamming device.
