So Apple is hoping that the majority of potential iPad mini 6 users have poor eyesight or something? Not a good strategy. Maybe this is a case of an Asian company providing inferior quality panels in an effort to offer the lowest bid to Apple and still make a profit.

I think it's down to some combination of cost cutting on the panel, optimizing for landscape now (and gaming/video usages) and simply a DGAF attitude.

It boggles the mind that this is the one particular iPad (the one most frequently used and loved in Portrait) they'd not be a bit careful about screwing up portrait mode on.

I just don't get the outrage. It's clearly an upgrade over previous displays.

Like, what's next? Are you guys going to tell me you actually prefer regular water over thick water?

Jelly > Liquid -end of discussion!

If it does, I can’t notice it nearly as much as on the iPad mini (if at all). Explain that.
No no. That’s not how this works

question your basic senses and memory because OBEY!! The product is fine you’re the one with a defect.

take it to the mall let the employee say it looks great and be on your way, exiting respectfully through Macy’s though with a skip to your step, assured with your purchase

then again, perhaps a backpedal into the mall for an eye appointment at LensCrafters might be in order, too. If that’s what the Genius recommends ultimately.

How is the display an upgrade?
It has the exact same specs

It's slightly larger, but the same PPI and the 8.3" isn't all usable for viewing content
(see footnote #1 on iPad comparison page)

Sounds like this is a confirmation. People just have to deal with it.
It depends on the individual, I for one am in the process of a return for several of these. Once the word is out and if it matters to people Apple will either seek a solution to fix it or minimize it as much as possible. Well here is hoping for a mini 7 without jelly if there is going to be one. It’s a shame really as the redesign is perfect.

Curious to see how soon these show up on the refurb store.

I’m just having fun with it , as I often do with news article posts but it is not an upgrade. It’s less bright and it has janky scrolling. Off axis is inferior too

you may say “I don’t care I like the new design” or “I didn’t come from mini 5” or “I don’t see it” and honestly that’s a valid take too

...but it’s not superior. It’s not even parity, technically.

I don’t like when things regress particularly screens. That’s the main component of interaction you have with the device

I do not understand the complaint. Every iPad I‘ve owned with an LCD except the 2017 iPad Pro w/ ProMotion Display, had Jelly scrolling in vertical mode. I mean, take your old iPads and have a look 🤷‍♂️

Did the jelly test with my iPhone 12 Pro, none observed in either orientation. Apple either cheapened some part of the display or controller part and does not want to admit it otherwise all those products in the customers hands, store, shipped and produce would have to be recalled or initiate some repair program.

Remember the butterfly keyboard, yeah Apple won’t acknowledge anything just make adjustments as needed then one day an iPad mini X will magically not have this “normal” but for some reason exaggerated on the mini 6 jelly scrolling issue.

It’s also substantially more faint to the point of something I don’t notice. With portrait on etch a sketch mini 6 it’s jarring. Ymmv
It's also somewhat of an Ignorance is bliss type of thing. Now that I know my M1 Mac Pro does it (used a dang 3rd party website), I now always see it when swiping to different workspaces .

That said, I loved this screen before, and for everything else it is fine. Like the ignorance side, there is also something to be said about how much it bothers you, or (in some cases) blow it out of proportion.

Sadly the mini has always gotten back seat treatment.

mini 1 wasn’t retina
Mini2 was still a contrast regression from its counterparts
Mini3 identical
Mini 4 like air2 in a DCI-P3 / TT 9.7+12.9 pro world
Mini 5 DCI-P3 and TT but less impactful and more muddied blacks (though I’m really happy with my unit still)
And mini 6 - a first - a regression not just from the more expensive older siblings but a regression from its predecessor

that’s where things feel slimey to me

Dead pixels are also “normal” of LCD displays, I don’t understand why people would not want one without any, after paying a premium price. 🙄

Flip an iPhone (or basically any phone from any manufacturer) to landscape mode and you get same thing. 💁‍♂️

I had a mini 1, 2 (Retina), 4, 5 and now 6. I agree the mini 5 I have not noticed any issues. This is a slap in the mini 6 owners face, not to worry return processed. Shameful Apple you eye for quality has slipped over the years.

People who have an older Mini; is the jelly in Landscape on the old Mini's less noticeable than the jelly in portrait on the new Mini? I don't mean less noticeable because you use landscape less, but is it less noticeable when in landscape than the Mini 6's jelly is in portrait?

Because I'm mostly a landscape user, but it still is absolutely nauseating to me when using Portrait. Is landscape on the older Mini's that bad?
