Looks like Apple found another way to nickel and dime their customers. What was so difficult about releasing that phone as a 32GB?

Darn, I thought the color decision was going to be a no-brainer this year.

The black will probably be more practical, but I'm weak and I know I will stare a little too long anytime I see someone with a Jet Black model.

Still gotta go with the Jet Black; it's way more... Vader.

Worst case: If it doesn't hold up well, I can still swap it out for a matte black within two weeks.

Get a Jet Black. If abrasions do show up, in 6 months' time you can flaunt it as a matte Black :)

I'm thinking it will be very similar to the new Samsung Galaxy phones. But my assumption is that the grip might be better. Just don't slam it on a table or put it in the same pocket as your keys and you'll be fine. In my experience, if your phone scratches, it's probably because you didn't take care of it very well.

Prime example of when product design is overpowering the reliability team's decision -> release with disclaimer. Basically means expect nothing but scratches.

Wouldn't the fact that they switched to a minimum of 32gb across their lineup mean that they LOST a way to "nickel and dime their customers"??
What are you even talking about??

For those of you trying to decide between Black and Jet Black, bear in mind that Jet Black costs more than the other iPhone 7 options, in the sense that the 32GB option isn't available for the Jet Black model and so you're forced to have at least the 128GB option if you want Jet Black.
[doublepost=1473285599][/doublepost]Great pic. You would have to expect this is what would look like. All finishes will get abrasions. Some show wear more than others.

I wonder if that means it will come with these micro abrasions out of the box like was often the case with the iPhone 5 at launch. The Apple Store where I bought my iPhone 5 refused to replace it saying: "We do NOT replace phones that have cosmetic damage" so I can only imagine what might happen with this Jet Black phone when they're warning people in advance.

Wait, I'm holding my 4S and it is jet black with no scratches! (I know, it is glass, but still no scratches).

Why on earth would they need to tell customers this, surely this is expected?

Good on em but dam I hope people are not that bad!

I'd say because it's probably going to be much worse than even reasonable people would expect. It's very unlike Apple to point out something like this, especially in advance, so I'd say those "micro-abrasions" are going to be horrific after a few months.

He is correct

So they didn't bump up the old 16gb on previous versions but they did bump up the 32gb to 64gb

Soooo what do we all do? We all now buy the 64gb cause the 16gb is seriously now just to small so pay the premium since they did not bump up the 16gb model.

NOW that we are ALL accustomed to 64gigs and we have games, pics, music etc. loaded and our 64gig phones only have a handful of gigs available ... now what do we do?

YEP ... we still have to pay the premium since they sucked us in to going from 32gb to 64gbs .... when we used to be accustomed to 32.

So it's impossible for us to to now say "Hey Great they bumped up the 16 to 32 like we always wanted ... NOPE we now all now are used to 64 so the 32 is no longer and option.

Apple knows EXACTLY what they are doing when they do it.

I think I confused myself re-reading this :p

Margins, my friend, margins!! That jet black finish has to cost more to produce than the other regular anodized finishes, so to compensate for that additional cost, Apple only makes it available on their higher margin (larger GB capacity) models.

I think I might just get the normal black one after seeing this, apple should have at least made the back scratch resistant, especially with the prices they are charging for the new iPhone 7 and 7 plus

That was the first thing I said when I saw the polished aluminum. It'll scratch. Why not make it cover the whole phone with guerrilla glass?

Anyone have any cases they think will look good with the jet black?
Spigen Crystal Clear Air Cushion. Only downside is it needs to be replaced every 6 months or so as it starts to discolor from rubbing on denim and whatnot.

But at least they're only like $11 on Amazon. You can buy three for less than the price of one silicone case from Apple.

Scratches or no scratches. The Jet Black will sell quick. Guaranteed. It's gorgeous.

My first worry when they unveiled it: "I bet it gets scratched like hell."

Now I'm curious whether they're downplaying the wear it'll show, or if you're gonna have to look for it per "fine micro-abrasions."

Yea, it's another conspiracy by Apple.

Look at some of the posters on MR and you will understand why Apple needs to point this out

I am thinking a clear film/skin would be nice on Jet Black. I am interested in seeing if polish would take out the micro-scratches. Of course then you would be dealing with the grip factor. I always hated clear cases because they collect dirt in them and scratch the phone. Still plan on getting one because like another member said, I have two weeks to return it for a different one.

This doesn't seem like anything I wouldn't expect. I remember minor scratches on the back of my 4s when that was glossy, glass backed.
